A lot of it depends on how one defines what a pirate king is, which is something I'm working on at the moment but I tend to subscribe to Luffy's statement about it being the pirate who is the most free. Which could certainly apply to Whitebeard although he had a rather large family and lots of cumbersome territory to protect. To me I think he's more of a caretaker. Someone who stood at the top waiting for the true successor to rise. He's definitely the closest thing the world saw after Roger and before Luffy though.

Never have I respected a character in the fictional scene more than the legendary Edward Newgate. A sick, dying old man managed to bring the entire Navy down to its knees all in order to attempt to rescue one of his sons. A man who was powerful but also compassionate, and well versed and aware about his own mortality. A man who understood more than anyone for his time that family is the most important, and in turn it is your relationship with your nakama that defines who you become. Whitebeard hugging Squard is still one of the best moments in the story, easily the best one not involving a strawhat. I didn't care for Whitebeard at first, but that's when he proved his true strength and I loved him after that.
Whitebeard's rule of "no killing crew members" probably came about from his time with the Rox pirates where they killed each other often till they disbanded.

I just finished Marineford and omfg what an arc. My favourite Whitebeard moment was when his coat came off and showed that he had no scars on his back because he never turns away from danger
let's be real here. this guy donated almost all of his treasures to the town where he grew up and protected a lot of territories. meaning to say, not only he was a true role model but a genuine guy as well. that alone makes Whitebeard a stand up guy. the reason why he didn't go to Raftel is because he knows he doesn't deserve to be there and has to wait for the right person and when he looked up on Luffy, he knows how much this kid can do in the future. that alone is the reason why Whitebeard is both feared and respected. only the people in the territory he protected and the pirates close to him knows who he is but to the outsiders, he is the scariest pirate that there's even a song dedicated to him and his infamy.

I respect Whitebeard so much since he reminds me of my father so much. Due to when he was alive he would never harm me and my brothers and was kind to all to where just like Whitebeard he would treat my friends and my brothers friends as if they where his kids as well calling them his sons and daughters. He would protect us, support us, feed us, kind hearted and powerful man and we called him father all the time. When he was on his death bed we all cried as he told me and everyone that is he was a great father to all. Then when he died and at his funeral EVERYONE that he called his children and friends surrounded his funeral and his grave with great respect and carried his coffin along with myself. It's going to be 17 years since his passing and we all still miss him. Seeing Whitebeard all the time makes me cry since again he reminds me so much like my father.

@Mr. WasGehtSieDasAn well, so far, even the biggest brutal asshole badguys ended up having a decent backstory. I mean, look at Stampede, Douglas Bullet literally was just an asshole, but he got quite a large backstory(its a movie, any minute of back story is a bigger thing than an anime back story). Let alone that Kaido's back story could introduce us to Rocks' crew.
I didn't even think about Kaido having a backstory, given how fleshed out his character already is. Now I'm really looking forward to that, even if it's short
I think that Kaido grew up in a house full of woman, all of them were killed by some "heroes of justice", because they were about to create a huge war, so Kaido only does what he does to complete those objetives and he probably blames himself for not being able to protect they in the past

I think an ideal pirate king isn't at all limited to "good pirates". Roger was given the title of Pirate King because he achieved essentially unlimited freedom. When the world talked about him, they noted how he traveled to all parts of the world and conquered the Grand Line, and the enemies he defeated, not his moral compass. We're not even sure how good of a person he even was to be honest.
That moment with Skort(I think that’s how you say it) made me realize that no one will ever come close to whitebeard. That scene literally made me cry.
To me, those last few panels in Ch576 are some of the most touching ones in the entirety of One Piece. Such a beautiful and boiled down essence of what his character was built around. Combined with his dreamy smile. Magnificent

*Ohara* Edward "Whitebead" Newgate was the MAN who wasn't going to let the World Government get away with the execution of his SON, Ace. He passed the fire that was Roger's to Luffy and was ready to take all the enemies, especially Akainu & Blackbeard, straight to hell. His treasure was FAMILY. I would follow this MAN to the ends of the earth if he was real. ^^
The fact that he knows about the One Piece but never went for it makes me think of two options: -He did not care for the story of the world he lives in (which is unlikely, seeing how he protects fishman island for example) -He did not fell ready for the upcoming war, which tells you about the magnitude of the upcoming conflict
My buddies always told me to get into one piece, and I finally started reading it earlier this year. They were always telling me about how badass Whitebeard was. I will never forget when I was reading through Impel Down, and I saw Whitebeard crack reality. If there was ever something I could go back and re-read for the first time, it would be that arc.
the fact that everyone misses is that, oda geniously made the strongest man, the man who can do anything for his family, it shows how any man who loves his family the most is the strongest man as he can do anything for them... and second that he made the most faithful people in the one piece verse- minks (cats and dogs) as they are the most faithful in real world as well... no matter what they didn't give up on their friend... It's amazing how much can we relate with oda's writings in our real life...

Whitebeard is one of my favorite father role model character. His compassion for his family, for those he call his sons (and brother(s)) and the pure love and loyalty to them is overwhelming and it shows through almost every single person of the family he has gotten. I totally agree with you that Whitebeard went to Marienford to die. It has always been my thoughts and belief that he knew his end was coming and wanted to follow Roger's example by also encouraging people to seek out the mythical One Piece. Since it'd been over two decades since Roger's death and no one had found the one treasure yet, some were starting to believe it was just a hoax. Whitebeard - who was known to have clashed with Roger - then stated it was real and the faith in the fact that there is a One Piece bloomed again.

We don't know if he didn't eat a devil fruit in the past 10 years, his crew and him only stopped ONE WAR and it's because the marines were devastated, the warlords were leaving, and they couldn't manage to fight their crew + WB crew and possibily BB and it was also pointless, Coby's speech also had a big role in the ending of Marineford's war; Sen Goku basically seized the opportunity to end the massacre, on the most diplomat we don't have enough infos for that but so far he put his life on the line twice first to ask WB to stop Ace and secondly to stop the war. On the most respected welp that's all to debate depending on what you mean by respect. For the Strongest Pirate, WB is called that at least once during the storyline but most importantly Oda stated that he was the strongest man even before the great age of pirates, hence before Roger's death, hence whole Roger was still a pirate, now I'm not saying that this means that WB was certainly stronger than Roger, I still think they were neck and neck, but if he was on the same level or Roger considering how powerful and destructive his DF was and considering that Roger undoubtedly considered the strongest, then it's safe to say he was the strongest pirate.

In terms of WB vs other pirates, I was talking about the time at just before marineford where WB was still incredibly strong but was not in his prime (or assumed so) and had an illness (again my fault for not clarifying the time I was talking about.) With the war, I do understand that marineford is terrible for powerscaling but with it being one of the few times we even see shanks its kind of hard not to mention it, and how he was able to stop akainus "pure justice" (and remember akainu is insanely strong, he was able to stop WB full swing with just his foot (cant remember how injured each of them were though)) As for devil fruits, we dont know whether he has eaten one in the recent years yes but most people just assume he hasn't because of how limited the information is on him (and I know assumptions are not the best to go off of but its shanks XD) At the very least he probably is the greatest diplomat or whatever because he could stop kaido going to marineford, get a meeting privately with the gorosei and is recognised by the marines. All I remember is WB being confirmed as the strongest man and I remember Kaido being the strongest beast in land sea and air so I just made assumptions with Big Mom and Shanks based on mainly opinion tbh On a side note, what's your opinion on the strongest swordsman? Mihawk, Rayleigh(Prime), Shanks or is there some other contender.
@@MrMomoman123456 Oh yess Akainu is certainly quite strong, but in that moment, when he was going to hit Coby, I don't think he was going all out, I mean Coby was pretty weak back then, a normal punch would have been enough to kill him, plus Akainu was highly injured from all the other fights against primarily with WB, then Marco and Jinbe and Vista, then also Ivan Kov who is very strong on his/her own as well and more... on the other hand is a nice evidence on how fast actually Shanks could be and if this has anything to do with some DF of his or of his crew member, I mean Akainu, who surely had observation haki, wasn't able to foresee him... even though haki wasn't totally introduced yet. Yes WB is confirmed the strongest man in the manga, and Kaido the strongest creature we don't know whether one disqualifies the other but what we can easily assume is that Roger's in his prime > Kaido and we know that the epithet of "The Strongest Man" was given to WB even before the great age of pirates thanks to the databook which name was... Vivrecard if my memory serves me right so following this logic WB should be at least on Roger's level hence stronger than Kaido, what's to debate is whether Kaido was or was not in his prime 20+ years ago. Kaido might be in his prime just now and maybe now he is stronger than both Roger and WB in their prime, but this is just a speculation of mine. Well, on the greatest swordsman we definitely don't know enough about Rayleigh's prime... well we barely know anything hahaha... I also think Mihawk and Shanks WERE on the same level at least when Shanks had both arms, something like Roger and WB but one got the title of pirate king and the other of strongest man, it doesn't mean that either one of the two and the upper hand against the other. Shanks became an emperor maybe cause he's lost an arm and Mihawk got/kept that title. I'm also very curious to know more about WB's swordsmanship... and surely also Oden could have been a contender I mean he easily highly injured Kaido and we can easily assume he could win and kill him right there if they didn't fool him into believing they had Momonosuke captured... damn Oden's backstory might be so far the most badass. *Whitebeard* is truly the best supportive character from his introduction to his ending in both manga and anime. You can't find any other man in the fictional world who can go out like and leave an impact, even in his death. At least IMO.

I mean, look at Stampede, Douglas Bullet literally was just an asshole, but he got quite a large backstory(its a movie, any minute of back story is a bigger thing than an anime back story). Let alone that Kaido's back story could introduce us to Rocks' crew.
I didn't even think about Kaido having a backstory, given how fleshed out his character already is. Now I'm really looking forward to that, even if it's short
I think that Kaido grew up in a house full of woman, all of them were killed by some "heroes of justice", because they were about to create a huge war, so Kaido only does what he does to complete those objetives

I think an ideal pirate king isn't at all limited to "good pirates". Roger was given the title of Pirate King because he achieved essentially unlimited freedom. When the world talked about him, they noted how he traveled to all parts of the world and conquered the Grand Line, and the enemies he defeated, not his moral compass. We're not even sure how good of a person he even was to be honest.
Man I am not even lying, this video gave me goosebumps, specially the last speech is one of the greatest anime moments ever.
That moment with Skort(I think that’s how you say it) made me realize that no one will ever come close to whitebeard. That scene literally made me cry.
To me, those last few panels in Ch576 are some of the most touching ones in the entirety of One Piece. Such a beautiful and boiled down essence of what his character was built around. Combined with his dreamy smile. Magnificent

I will never forget when I was reading through Impel Down, and I saw Whitebeard crack reality. If there was ever something I could go back and re-read for the first time, it would be that arc.

Whitebeard is one of my favorite father role model character. His compassion for his family, for those he call his sons (and brother(s)) and the pure love and loyalty to them is overwhelming and it shows through almost every single person of the family he has gotten.
I totally agree with you that Whitebeard went to Marienford to die. It has always been my thoughts and belief that he knew his end was coming and wanted to follow Roger's example by also encouraging people to seek out the mythical One Piece. Since it'd been over two decades since Roger's death and no one had found the one treasure yet, some were starting to believe it was just a hoax. Whitebeard - who was known to have clashed with Roger - then stated it was real and the faith in the fact that there is a One Piece bloomed again.
It still makes me sad the VA died.

We don't know if he didn't eat a devil fruit in the past 10 years, his crew and him only stopped ONE WAR and it's because the marines were devastated, the warlords were leaving, and they couldn't manage to fight their crew + WB crew and possibily BB and it was also pointless, Coby's speech also had a big role in the ending of Marineford's war; Sen Goku basically seized the opportunity to end the massacre, on the most diplomat we don't have enough infos for that but so far he put his life on the line twice first to ask WB to stop Ace and secondly to stop the war.
On the most respected welp that's all to debate depending on what you mean by respect.
For the Strongest Pirate, WB is called that at least once during the storyline but most importantly Oda stated that he was the strongest man even before the great age of pirates, hence before Roger's death, hence whole Roger was still a pirate, now I'm not saying that this means that WB was certainly stronger than Roger, I still think they were neck and neck, but if he was on the same level or Roger considering how powerful and destructive his DF was and considering that Roger undoubtedly considered the strongest, then it's safe to say he was the strongest pirate.

In terms of WB vs other pirates, I was talking about the time at just before marineford where WB was still incredibly strong but was not in his prime (or assumed so) and had an illness (again my fault for not clarifying the time I was talking about.)
With the war, I do understand that marineford is terrible for powerscaling but with it being one of the few times we even see shanks its kind of hard not to mention it, and how he was able to stop akainus "pure justice" (and remember akainu is insanely strong, he was able to stop WB full swing with just his foot (cant remember how injured each of them were though))
As for devil fruits, we dont know whether he has eaten one in the recent years yes but most people just assume he hasn't because of how limited the information is on him (and I know assumptions are not the best to go off of but its shanks XD)
At the very least he probably is the greatest diplomat or whatever because he could stop kaido going to marineford, get a meeting privately with the gorosei and is recognised by the marines.
All I remember is WB being confirmed as the strongest man and I remember Kaido being the strongest beast in land sea and air so I just made assumptions with Big Mom and Shanks based on mainly opinion tbh
On a side note, what's your opinion on the strongest swordsman? Mihawk, Rayleigh(Prime), Shanks or is there some other contender.
@@MrMomoman123456 Oh yess Akainu is certainly quite strong, but in that moment, when he was going to hit Coby, I don't think he was going all out, I mean Coby was pretty weak back then, a normal punch would have been enough to kill him, plus Akainu was highly injured from all the other fights against primarily with WB, then Marco and Jinbe and Vista, then also Ivan Kov who is very strong on his/her own as well and more... on the other hand is a nice evidence on how fast actually Shanks could be and if this has anything to do with some DF of his or of his crew member, I mean Akainu, who surely had observation haki, wasn't able to foresee him... even though haki wasn't totally introduced yet.
Yes WB is confirmed the strongest man in the manga, and Kaido the strongest creature we don't know whether one disqualifies the other but what we can easily assume is that Roger's in his prime > Kaido and we know that the epithet of "The Strongest Man" was given to WB even before the great age of pirates thanks to the databook which name was... Vivrecard if my memory serves me right so following this logic WB should be at least on Roger's level hence stronger than Kaido, what's to debate is whether Kaido was or was not in his prime 20+ years ago. Kaido might be in his prime just now and maybe now he is stronger than both Roger and WB in their prime, but this is just a speculation of mine.
Well, on the greatest swordsman we definitely don't know enough about Rayleigh's prime... well we barely know anything hahaha... I also think Mihawk and Shanks WERE on the same level at least when Shanks had both arms, something like Roger and WB but one got the title of pirate king and the other of strongest man, it doesn't mean that either one of the two and the upper hand against the other. Shanks became an emperor maybe cause he's lost an arm and Mihawk got/kept that title.
I'm also very curious to know more about WB's swordsmanship... and surely also Oden could have been a contender I mean he easily highly injured Kaido and we can easily assume he could win and kill him right there if they didn't fool him into believing they had Momonosuke captured... damn Oden's backstory might be so far the most badass. Dude was literally oneshotting everyone expect for Kaido but he got close😂
