    Hay Hoag, Love ya and we are also former Californians. We moved to Knoxville 5 years ago and love it just like you but, watched this video and we understand your frustration but your "California was showing". You're very good so keep it real and enjoy it for what it is........Tennessee that we love.

    My son works on the crew that maintains Cades cove trails. They work their butts off on those trails. The entire crew is dedicated to keeping the trails beautiful for us to enjoy.
    We agree with you on the traffic in the cove. It’s beyond ridiculous. We call it deer jams lmbo. Love your videos. Keep on hiking y’all.

    I think a lot of people make the mistake of thinking a hike is just a typical walk... like as if they were taking a walk around the block in their own neighborhood or going sightseeing on vacation. They don't really stop to think on a hike, there are different terrains you might have to adjust to, some places might be steeper than others, and also having all those woods around means more snakes and more bugs (including ones that bite and possibly give you a disease). There are a lot of things to take into consideration, including a person's own health and abilities when deciding if and where they hike. Hiking is great, but you're right, you do have to be prepared!

    Get a map & find your short cut to Townsend from the 1/2 way point, I don't remember the name of the road. One lane is perfect, keeps the lead footers from annoying us LOL.

    Abrams falls is a nice, manageable trail with the payoff of the Falls at the end. I've only done the hike in the fall and would probably be miserable trying to hike in the Smokies in the heat and humidity of the summer. Love the Smokies in the Fall.

    I have the solution to avoiding the traffic in Cades Cove. Don't go. It was not intended to be an interstate. And there are many visitors not physically able to hike or ride a bike.

    I did a lot of camping in Mt. Lemmon, AZ. We always went to the same area and hoped we got the biggest spot to set up. The biggest spot had the perfect tree for my step dad to put a swing on. He was very good at making things. That swing stayed there for some years. Other campers loved using it.

    The whole point of the park back when it was founded, was that it was a drive-thru park ... the first of its kind. And also, who camps here in July? hahaha. Hot, moist, and sticky ... extra itchy too.

    I'm gonna fight you bro :-) ....Cades Cove is not over rated. But you are quite justified to bitch about the traffic - it's been like that since I been visiting the Cove (over 30 years). Despite the numerous signs to pull over when stopping, people just don't do it. (BTW the traffic back ups are affectionately called "Bear Jams"). Just stumbled upon your videos and I especially love the camping videos.

      @Hoagmatthew  Před 3 lety +1

      Yup, ya want to go see nature, walk or hike to it, go ride a bike to it....get your lazy ass out of the car. Any person that enters that park can see what an amazing spot it is and anyone with half a brain can understand what thousands of idling cars, daily, will do to it and the impact it has. I left California at the door just like you left clearly left your education.

    I refuse to tent camp period lol. We had a 31’ camping trailer that we sold when the kids quit going. Too bad Macey couldn’t go. Beautiful campground ⛺️🌳 I have never owned a tent. Hubby went camping in NorCal with a tent and his camping/race buddy took it home. I’d be afraid of critters getting in the tent or food…😳 The other day a brown bear somewhere ate a tourist and mauled 1-2 others…😢 Wow that traffic back was like the 15 freeway currently lol. Ortega highway closed this weekend…My surgery is Monday. I’ll be watching in recovery 🙂
