    Aerosmith were the first (major) band I saw live. Steve doing backflips, Joe with his guitar slung low and hair blowing back from the on stage wind machines.
    I think people underestimate the importance of wind machines in guitar playing. They are an essential part of Joe Perry’s technique.

    Love Joe Perry. That solo from “Janie’s Got a Gun” always sounded like the coolest thing ever to me. The tone is phenomenal. Gibson Chet Atkins SST. Spent years trying to get the sound only to find out that’s what he was playing. Doesn’t matter, never could transcribe the solo perfectly anyway ☹️

    Man that virtual capo is an amazing bit of kit.
    I absolutely loved that album and particularly that song.
    As an old, I remember shoving the 8 track (a form of media) into my "Craig Powerplay" and leaving it in (with a matchbook for good play) for many months, as was the custom of the time.
    We didn't have your fancy new fangled "streaming" or "virtual capos", we played our music by banging our guitars against rocks and ...we liked it!

    • @SpedSpedding
      @SpedSpedding  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Absolutely! It's truly mind-blowing what you can achieve nowadays with just the flick of a switch or the tap of a button. And hey, don't worry, I'm no spring chicken either, haha! It's funny you mention that; I was chatting with a patron before about how I used to record myself into my mum's karaoke machine using a mic and tape, then play it back to practice songwriting and jamming. Feels like ancient history now! I guess I'm basically a grandad in this digital age.

      Amazing time to be alive.

    Great vid. Your zepplin vids are spot on. I think if you tune to drop C# and virtual capo -5 instead it will sound exactly the same. Plus it allows you to play the opening riff on the D, G and B strings.

    • @SpedSpedding
      @SpedSpedding  Před 2 měsíci

      Yeah that’s another way to do it. But for the average Joe (Perry) it’s probably easier to just sling it in Drop D and notch it down one more semitone.

      @@gib59er56 Yeah don't worry. I'm actually dealing with shoulder impingement at the moment. I have an awesome PT who's getting me into the best shape of my life. Use it or you lose it as they say. I'm looking after myself.

    Aerosmith were the first (major) band I saw live. Steve doing backflips, Joe with his guitar slung low and hair blowing back from the on stage wind machines.
    I think people underestimate the importance of wind machines in guitar playing. They are an essential part of Joe Perry’s technique.

      Legend has it that without wind machines, guitarists couldn’t achieve those iconic stage poses. After all, a power stance isn’t complete without a perfectly timed gust of wind!

    Saw them in ‘77 and Joe, obviously out of it, fell face down on the stage and popped right back up as fast as he had face planted not missing a bit.

      Assuming he let out a roar of “I’m back in the saddle” as soon as he popped back up?

      @@SpedSpedding Could not hear him utter off mic, but I always wondered how his guitar did not break. The band did not miss a beat and as messed up as he had to be that night he was still playing his parts completely unaffected.
