The red & white Daredevle has always been one of the best lures for pike. I lost so many when I was a kid in the 50's. I had a cheap rod and reel and 8 Lb mono line that was several seasons old. Today we have superior fishing gear but the old Daredevle still works like the old days.
Amen
Lol reminds me when I was a kid and this guy down the river can see a pike so we ran over I gave him the lure and he said it wouldn't work I told him it works every time and BOOM hit as soon as it touched the water and we got it. He was actually a small pike so we let it back in the water
Catching a crappie on a daredevil is something very rare! Nice video Brian!
Thanks Chris! I would agree. Didn't see that coming.
Actually its not
I’ve caught crappies on spinners dare devils and rapalas none of them caught on purpose but I’ve even once caught a sunny on a daredevil
It was the day after opener it was raining out a bit but reguardless there’s these little chain of lakes by my house they’re really small but they’re All attached we usually throw daredevils out cause that’s all we ever catch anything on the lake has a overflow of northern and that’s all we’d catch till that day once in awhile you’ll get a bass or something but out of nowhere I got a bite mind you we fish from the shore lines and all there is is a dirt road there thought I had a bass on turned out to be a 16 inch crappie mind you normal crappies are about 10 to 11 inches out here 12 to 13 is considered big so you can imagine how much I was freaking out when I pulled it in
Not rare at all I've probably caught more pan fish on daredevils and rapalas than anything else and they're typically really good size for eating
I love these underwater camera videos. Gives you insight on the fishes behavior when they pull up to your bait on the ol fish finder and look like they are right on top of your bait
Yes it does! No more guessing on what the fish below is doing with the camera lol.
That animal was having a ball playing tricks on you 🤣
I love muskrats!
lol.. He came back several times. Even other days. Kept messing with me lol. Never seen it before so I enjoyed.
Great video man, seeing how fish interact with those lures and live bait is really informative. Sometimes when I’m on the ice and just jigging endlessly, you might have no idea the fish that are checking your rig out... a really good lesson in perseverance for sure.
Thanks FishNY! Like you said, days you think nothing was around, fish were probably checking out your bait. Just didn't know. Watching them on the camera is fun and informative like you said.
ZZytry
I always forget to put a daredevil in my ice fishing tackle box! Great video as always - excited to see what you can pull out of the ice this year!
Glad you enjoyed!
Back in the day my dad would take and cut a thin strip of chamois (the stuff we used to get the water beads off our cars after washing them). Chamois for those who don't know is deer skin hide.
Anyway he would cut a thin strip about an inch and a half long and about as wide as a couple paper matches. One end was wider than the other so it tapered and you would hook that wider end on a bare hook. You didn't need a sinker or anythinv. The cool thing about using a strip of thin deer skin is it doesnt come off the hook..its not stiff as it goes thru the water...it has some wiggle action to it. I think it mimicked a minnow or something and we could catch a bunch of fish using just one piece of chamois. It worked ice fishing gigging it but generally in the summer we would put a bobber on so we could throw it out and then slowly crank it back in and thats when they'd hit it. We had one honey hole farm lake that produced some gigantic 12 inch Crappies. No joke. They were enormous and quite good to eat. Crappies that size are worth the cleaning effort cause you get some decent fillets. What a great memory.
Thanx for your videos. They're entertaining! 👍
That is awesome! Sounds like the old school pork grind, where wouldn't come off. What a great story. I love me some crappie action. Especially if 12" ers. They are tasty. Thanks for sharing the memory with me. I enjoyed it. Take care man!
Add a minnow head to the treble hook on the dare devil it will give the hook a little more float and give it more scent!
I agree, I just didn't have any with this time.
Pike sometimes try to pin their prey up against the underside of the ice. Nest time you see a pike near your daredevil jig it up higher and higher and pull it right up through the hole like its trying to get away. Pike hit those right at the hole.
I agree with you Dave. I should of kept rating it up, he wanted it.
Crazy that they attack a Lure moved that fast in Winter! Crazy and nice to see/know.
Greetz from Austria
Awesome you are from Austria. Welcome from Minnesota! They usually are slower in the winter but when the want to move, cold doesn't stop them lol.
@@BryanProkuski GG 😉It looks really hard so you don't cast too early when a pike is nibbling on it. What was your biggest Pike?
Greetz
@@noobstar5613 I havent caught too many big pike. I think 34" is the biggest since I started measuring.
pretty black crappie ! well done !
Yes it was. Thanks Simon!
I always wanted to go ice fishing but here in Tn it don’t get cold enough to freeze it over. There’s been a thin layer of ice on top but nothing like you have
Ya you are going need to travel north for some ice fishing. We are driving full size trucks on the ice by January.
My biggest Lake Trout was on a Daredevle! 4" Spoon, 41" laker.
Heck yea! Nice laker man, congrats! And on the good ole tried and true Daredevle.
That gnarly fish, hanging in the background like a saw victim
Gotta love the underwater footage so sick!
Thanks man! Doesn't get any better!
The Muskrat!
Guess he is my new little buddy.
Cool vid,,,,daredevle will catch ANYTHING,,,,,and for like 100 years, or better too,,,,that's why they make em from like half inch micros, to12 inch trolling spoons,,,,those crappie are delicious,,,but you need a mess, for a good fry,,,,fun vid!!!!!😎
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed the video. Daredevil does catch everything! Love me some crappie tacos :)
Another awesome vid! Can’t beat the underwater footage. I’ve been sketchy out there lately. It’s safe where you are, just be careful if you venture out towards the middle more.
Thanks man! Underwater footage is where its at. I wouldn't venture towards the middle for awhile. Cold weather is here though finally, so i'll give it a week and be back out there.
Yes the muskrat😂
Love when the Muskrat visits!
Thanks for the amazing impressions and your right when you said fisch is just a bonus its more about enjoy the outdoors👍 greetings from switzerland.
You are welcome. I just love ice fishing and being outdoors. Awesome you are in Switzerland! Greetings from Minnesota!
love the under water foutuge
Thanks! Me too!
One thing I think you should try doing is that you should slowly raise up your lure. That’ll keep the fish chasing and for me at least is most effective on my local lake for crappies, but I think it should work for pike too.
I agree 100%. Especially crappie fishing! If I was using a flasher I would of kept going up till I triggered the bite. When recording with the Aqua Vu I try to get the bite on film, which tends to not trigger some fish like that pike.
Lol the pike just sitting there watching the bass came threw said nvm I’ll go
You should try clipping the tail on your minnows so they can't move away from the fish as easily. Works for me! Great Video and footage!
Dont clip it crack it.....
Let it run. Pike are like cats. They chase.
@@daveengstrom9250 trips the flag
Thanks man, Glad you enjoyed the video! That is a good tip. I do that a lot too. Just didn't this day. Like to change it up. Never know if they want the chase early ice. But if trips the flag. Tail gotta go.
Mega profeska menciu! Piona
That crappie was fired up!
He wasn't playing around!
Muskrat love man.. I'm telling you
lol.. Might have to name him.
Yep it came up again
Right. That Muskrat loved me that day lol.
Yes
Ha Ha, put two hooks in the back of the minnow and says have 'fun' buddy.
Hahaha, that's a world record tiny fish.
The muskrat was telling you:Fish is down here
lol Right!
That muskrat was trolling ya, lol. I always run into those assholes when creek fishing.
lol.. Yes he was!
Nice work man
Thanks Michael!
Congrats on 12k subscribers! You’re movin‘ on uuup!
Thanks Chris! Hard work pays off.
Pike are awesome sport fish… curious and aggressive..
Yes they are! Love watching them on the underwater cam react.
Great video cant wait for the water to freeze up over here in PA!
Thanks! Hope it freezes soon for you. I got a buddy from Oil City!
Elon Muskrat with the cameo.
Cute muskrat!
He came to visit a few times now. Guess I made a friend.
Awesome
Thanks!
Would love to see some crappie schools on camera!
Man me too! It's a goal of mine for sure but the only lakes I know down here for crappie are either too stained or they are always suspended which camera doesn't do the best. One day it will happen though.
the muskrat 😂
lol.. Made a new friend out there
another great video , I ordered a set of Dare devil spoons after watching this figure I’ll try them out down here!
They work amazingly. Ive caught so many nice fish on them. Another thing you should try is a mepps musky killer. But they are not actually meant for muskies, they are smaller.
Try out the blue fox fire stripe. It's a gold spoon with a red fire pattern on it. Pike go nuts for that
I just might have too. Pike love them some gold spoons!
Nice video Brian.
Thanks!
Throw a five of diamonds in your box it was a great lure for me I’ve used an orange Mepps ceyclops this summer was my new favourite got my biggest pike with it
5 of diamonds is already in there ;) Shot a sweet video last season with that lure. Man pike love them spoons. Awesome on the Mepps. Another pike killer. I plan on trying it ice fishing this season just for some fun. Think it will go over good.
this is very good
Thanks Wolf Little. Glad you like it!
too cool for a video
Thanks Lisa. Glad you enjoyed it.
That dad-blamed Pike just wanted to play around. This is a great video, but that Pike was just wasting your time. Those crazy things! Ya just never can quite get a bead, on whether they're gonna strike or not. As you've shown in the past, they've been known to chase other potential catches away, such as Bass, Perch, Bluegill, and even Crappie, and then totally waste your time, with a bunch of playing around. It's absolutely maddening! Sometimes you just wish that, if they're not going to bite, that they'd just go away, and let the other types of fish come out to play!
Pemancing hebat pasti hasilnya memuaskan👍
I respect that fluorocarbon quick strike rig. People really under rate 80# fluorocarbon.
Thanks
New to your channel man! Awesome video. Just waiting for ice in indiana
Glad you enjoyed the video and welcome to the channel. When do you usually get ice in Indiana?
@@BryanProkuski usually 1-3 weeks into January. I’m in the very northern part of Indiana, almost Michigan
@@thebassboys9779 Cool. Well sounds like you should be out about now. Be safe and Goodluck!
@@BryanProkuski ya man I got a 4 pounder on Monday and it’s on my CZcams channel. It would be my most recent short
I've caught a walleye on a five of diamonds
Awesome! Im going give it a try.
My largest pike threw the ice...26lbs We jug fish... hilarious really... no tip-ups.
You'll be sitting in the truck, tent or shack...and poof...the jug takes off along the ice... we have at times ha 100 ft of line stripped off of the jug... yah a lot of bit fish. COLD water jack fish...if you know how to filet...the best
That's a solid pike right there! Jug fishing, never heard of it. Sounds interesting.
Great video, love the underwater footage 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed.
10/10 is my rating of this fishing video
Thanks Brian! Glad you enjoyed it!
I caught my very first fish, a Rainbow trout, on a red and white Dardevle in 1977.
That is awesome! The red and white never fails! Thanks for sharing that.
Gotta love the muskrat
Right! Guess I have a new friend.
Dude eff yeah
Glad you enjoyed!
Hello from North east Philadelphia. Great video. How did get the footege off the Aquaview? Ttys God bless
Awesome! Thanks. Welcome from Minnesota. I use a 3rd party recording device called an Aver Media 2. It records it to an SD card then just pop that into my computer.
I've never seen a muskrat come up to a hole before
First time for me too. He came back couple other times as well. Became my friend I guess lol.
Happens to spear fishermen all the time and they use huge holes.
You guy would love to come fishing hard salt water .
Sounds fun!
I wonder how they would respond to a japanese style slow pitch jig.
Let give it a try!
What lake are you fishing
What do you use for like a 1rst person view with a camera? What camera do you use headcam?
GoPro on a tripod.
Amazing that your live bait wasn't getting the pikes attention.
Right! Early ice like this they always seem to want the jigging rod.
Awesome. How far out can the camera see?
Depends on the lake. For this lake maybe 10 ft or so.
Put a small sucker head on those hooks and rip that thing violently a few times. Could try the yellow five of diamond's. I've found a hot dog or two in the belly of the northern too.
Yellow 5 of Diamonds is the best! I caught some last year on it. I'll probably use that next time out. Oh yeah they love hot dogs. Had to try it myself and caught one on it.
The water is so clear it looks like the fish and lure are floating in air...
Doesn't it! This lake is crystal clear water. When I accidentally pull weeds off the bottom and when they float down its like zero gravity.
Top amigo
Thanks
A musk rat came up the holl 2 different times
Right! How crazy was that. Visited me another day too.
where do you ice fish? Where I live you can only have a single hook on a live bait
Minnesota
I would like to do this, but I can’t. I don’t have the right equipment.
Dont need to much to get out. Just need some safe ice, auger and pole and from there you can get fancy with it if want.
Makes ya wonder 🤔 how they sleep.
lol Right! That has never crossed my mind. Guess they don't. But then again it would be hard to sleep without eyelids lol.
That's a Red & White Wobbler here in Idaho.
Awesome!
Crappies are the best-eating freshwater fish after walleye, IMO. That guy would have gone in the pan.
I would agree with that! When I hit my crappie hole later this season ill be bringing some home for the pan.
Mantap...👍
Thanks
How deep of water is this im curious?
12ft
Way too much jigging with that pike! Need a few pauses in between. I had a pike watch a hoola popper for 5 min. I gave a small jig to just to move it and sure enough bam it hit.
Waoooo jooosss 👍👍👍
Why don't you tip your spoon with a minnow head or tail? Would've hammered those jacks
Didn't have any with that day and didn't want to kill one of my few suckers I had with. I'll be back!
No need for a dinner bell
I think you should have stopped jigging when the pike came in. They’re watching from a distance waiting for your daredevil to stop moving so they can come in and check it out and eat it
Ya probably should of. They do like it when it chills for the strike.
@@BryanProkuski I’m a Minnesota fisherman too but thanks for the videos man I don’t have an under water camera so I’m learning from them. I wouldn’t have thought about trying to jig a daredevil either, I’m gonna have to try it.
@@classicjesse3083 You're welcome Jesse. The camera is a nice tool and fun to watch. Give the ol Daredevil a try sometime. You could probably tip it with a minnow head to make it even better. I used the 5 of diamonds as well and had the pike loving it!

I love his videos but can you Imagine the vegan teacher watching this……
What size is that daredevil
1/4 oz
I'd say one hook and your sucker it will try to swim , two hooks restrict it.
Thanks for the tip Kevin.
Where is this lake?
How much do you pay that muskrat?
Hahaha. Man that Muskrat came by few different videos. Would of thought I paid him for sure lol.
