- The Concordia Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. David Eyler, performs The First Circle by Lyle Mays and Pat Metheny, arranged by Rich Holly. This performance took place during the March 2015 spring tour of the Concordia Percussion Ensemble.
ABOUT THE PIECE: The First Circle is the title cut on the album of the same name that was released in 1984 by the Pat Metheny Group. The album won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Fusion performance in 1985. The First Circle was originally written by Metheny and his pianist Lyle Mays for their ensemble, a quintet of guitar, piano, bass, drums, and a percussionist who doubled as a vocalist. Reviewers have stated that The First Circle is certainly one of the greatest musical compositions and recordings of the past century. The power and passion of this piece, as it progresses gracefully from a series of simple handclaps to its explosive and magical climax, takes one’s heart and soul on an unforgettable flight. - Hudba
Happy so happy and touching!!
More to follow from the Pat Metheny Group world best!!!!!!!
These kids had me with the opening clapping rhythm. When I try to do it I look like Steve Martin in the Jerk. Love this tune. My favorite Metheny Mays creation. I feel fortunate to have seen it performed a few times while Lyle was alive.
This brought tears to my eyes. - To see these kids play this beloved PMG song!! Wow. It has been said that this song is 'certainly one of the greatest musical compositions and recording of the past century' This song will live on for centuries!
