    When clear coating, you should always lightly sand the first coat, lay on a second coat, lightly sand the second coat as well, then spray a third finishing coat. Makes it as smooth as glass and much stronger than just one normal coat.

    A few tips. Add more weight to the middle of you are doing it this way. Less chance for air pockets.
    Put an 1/8" round over on the edges, it prevents chipping if it wrecks into a curb as well as cleaning it up.
    Add fiberglass between one of the plies for added strength.
    Great work tho, love making these

      I always assume the price of the board was because of brands. Lol it's nice to hear what else goes in to this type of work.

    you need to switch the direction of the grain between every ply for strength otherwise i am impressed with how well you did with your wood work. nice to see young people keeping the trade alive

      Richard Ahlers he might have had good woodworking but not good board making i have both a longboard and a regular skateboard and they are not nearly as thick as the ones you see here not to mention if he has a router he should have used it on the sides

      I was thinking the same thing. If he had only purchased 2 pieces of wood to begin with, then he could've ripped them on the table saw at the same time with one going against the grain and one with the grain. I was also wondering why he didn't cut out the holes where the trucks go, and if those holes are even necessary or just gives a longboard it's natural look.

    :o Convex board shape would weird me out so much. I guess it flattened out once you rode it, but is this material more flexy than bamboo? Woulda thought you'd just try to go for a concave radial bend. Would it be possible to bend the large piece of wood before cutting it into thirds so that you could have a radial bend?

    • @Coprionix
      @Coprionix Před 3 lety +2

      its obviously not as flexible as bamboo...
      and yes it is possible to bend it but if you do you have to glue every layer yourself, while the glue is drying you need to clamp the middle
      edit: and yes i do realize this is 4 years ago

    Nice tutorial! I was thinking if you had purchased 2 pieces of wood at first you could've cut one with the grain and one against the grain for more strength. And it would've been just as easy to rip them both at the same time on your table saw. I also would've tried to center the grain on the top board just for looks and design. But you did an excellent job here! Thanks for sharing!

    The board looks really small in my opinion. Maybe because most longboards are at least 9 inch wide and 41 inch long max. Also you don't need to put riser pads on the board since the shape of the board is design to allow wheel clearance.

      2 1x1s or 2x4s on each side going long ways with the board and a lot of weight in the center. Depends on how much concave you want. I've seen another video and he did this with the 2 layers of wood going against the grain in between 3 layers going with the grain. I'm about to start making fingerboards on my channel and it's basically the same process but smaller.
