That was one of the BEST explanations and ideas about proper drone orientation I have seen yet. I have had the orientation problem on my Mavic Mini ever since getting it. I am sure many others have the same. Thanks :)

Like me I think most people were just ignoring it since you can fly without the orientation display.
You can also calibrate the compass by Going into Google maps and doing the figure of 8 a couple of times. That's been my fix for the last few weeks

You don't need a compass app. You just need to calibrate the phones compass any way you want.
You see that little circle in the bottom center of your screen. And it has the triangle that is supposed to replicate the Drone. As of yesterday mine's not showing up anymore. on the other hand to the left in the Google Maps it shows a different Circle and arrow. But I don't like that one because I have to cut it on and it takes up a big portion of the far left corner of the screen. So I wanted to have my little white center one come back on. Is there any way to cut this thing on and off?
I have the same problem with my mini2 , it used to show on my iPhone 12 Pro but now it’s missing from screen. Did you get a fix anywhere?
The compass in the phone is used to know which way the controller (and phone) is pointing. The compass in the drone is used to know which way the drone is pointed. The compass in the drone can't know which way the controller is pointed. Both compasses need to be calibrated for the display to be correct.
True. DJI needs to put a compass in the controller. Using the phone's compass is unreliable.
If I get a compass app on the mini would that work?
Will the iPad Mini work with the Mavic Mini orientation display? I don't know. An app is not necessary if the iPad Mini has compass hardware and the Fly App supports it. Just try it and see if it works. What you could do is rent an iPad mini and see if it works.
What about using an iPad mini as a screen rather than a cell phone the mini has no compass. How would that work

I had to go Sign In again.. (in Geneva today) because I thought this was a really good "in detail" vid. These are not "plug n play"! Flight check list seems like the only way to go Dave. Not a whole lot different than flying the real thing anymore - next will be sectional charts! ha! Blue Skies OM!

Mine seems to work correctly when things aren’t in the way, like houses and trees. Haven’t had any issues when I had direct line of sight.
Seems to depend on what cellphone or tablet you have. Some are better than others. What are you using.
Dave Merc Productions I use my iPhone X sometimes but mostly iPhone 8 Plus. It does not have a sim card and I keep the wifi connection off for the flight.
Dave Merc Productions I’ve had the same or similar issue as you when I launch from the front of my house and fly Mavic mini to behind it while I stay in front ( seems to happen when I lose line of sight )
@@killgar84 Interesting b/c there are so many variables to the puzzle. Not a good design on this widget imo.
