    Great,just received the non smart Sterzo version and this has been released. It does work superbly.

    what i'd like to see is for certain races to require constant steering instead of the "set and forget" lane position choosing it is now. for example if you don't steer for a corner you just end up riding along the edge of the lane.

  • @silvercyclist3744
    @silvercyclist3744 Před 4 lety

    A big win for Elite being first to market with smart steering. A day or so ago, I had no need for steering. Now I want one. I feel sorry for those that have forked out for a smart bike that doesn’t support steering via steering your handlebars.

    • @gplama
      @gplama  Před 4 lety +1

      Well... there are others... but it was Elite who came to a commercial agreement with Zwift to implement steering with their unit. Smart Bikes will likely get steering via the buttons they have.

    • @silvercyclist3744
      @silvercyclist3744 Před 4 lety

      Shane Miller - GPLama buttons won’t be as good an immersive experience for me, in that respect I suspect a kickr core with the relatively cheap smart steerer would score higher than buttons on the smart trainer. I wonder if wahoo are developing a kickr climb with steering, that would be interesting lol. I think I’d probably fall if my bike using something like that.

    I think the thing that is an unexpected bonus to me is that it makes other riders solid, that will be the thing that changes racing. If they’d added the steering but you could still ride through people it wouldn’t have had nearly so much potential. That said it could prove interesting trying to navigate your way through a pack of riders!

  • @david131092
    @david131092 Před 4 lety +1

    Tbf this is exactly what I’d hoped for - not really steering - more like a strafe or veer function. So you can switch to the other side of the road when attacking to break the draft! Nice!

    • @robbybeauchamp
      @robbybeauchamp Před 4 lety

      Since this is mostly picking a lane rather than having to constantly baby-sit to keep on the road, simple buttons on the hoods/bars will do the trick. For the way it's set up for on the road riding, there's no real need for analog. On the dirt or such where keeping the line is part of the challenge the smart bikes will need to come up with some analog system to measure steering input rather than just a signal to switch lanes in the road.

    • @chriscope3522
      @chriscope3522 Před 4 lety

      Robby Beauchamp agreed. I was just thinking about that. However, would that not present an advantage to that type of hardware in racing? Say the rider who is using a Stereto having a harder time not jumping off of their line vs the smart bike rider who has more precision to their lane choice and timing.

    Another perfectly timed great video by Lamamamamama!
    1. I thought riders in workouts couldn't draft anyone?
    2. My biggest disappointment is WHY I can't steer to select my route? Seems kinda silly. Let's hope that's another upgrade coming soon. Seems like you could do something in the software to recognize you want to go left or right at a junction in the road. Might be interesting when there are multiple junctions?

    My first thought when you started doing that around other riders is. What the heck would they have been thinking with you going all over the road. Nice of you to let them know what was going on. Should users put a steering acronym in their name so everyone else knows that they have it? Or is there a indication that shows up on the other riders screen. As a runner i just worry about all the runners being ran in to by cyclists. :)

    Idea is certainly good but the implementation surely needs more work. Unless Tacx and others will implement steering as a default feature I cannot see much use of this, other than racing to choose team mate to draft on. It would be so much simpler to just use arrow keys left and right to choose which person to draft. There's really no need for steering device to choose line. Knowing Zwift this should be part of InfiniteWorks.

    didn't they previous introduce this to be used with your mobile phone movement detection technology for the off-road route without having to buy another device? Can't they bring that across to the road still using our mobile phone on the handlebars?

    I'm intrigued to see what the swerving looks like on the other riders screen. Do you appear to swerve or just keep riding as if in autopilot (usual Zwift movement/motion)?

      They see the full send swerve. I'll do a livestream later tonight (Melbourne time) and show people this with fan view and have others join for the ride.

      @@gplama yeah maybe rushing out and getting one isn't the smartest thing. Wait for tacx and wahoo to bring out something to compete against in in the market. Fingers crossed it brings price down slightly.

    Great video, thanks Shane! Quick question please, I have the dumb version of the Sterzo but am still trying to figure out how to stop the frame flexing whenever I steer. Any ideas? Thank you

      There should be minimal movement when it's setup correctly. It depends how much flex you're talking I guess.

    Well I thought the 1st 20 minutes it looked okay but is it worth it and then wow when you were playing with the DIRT rider that was crazy but trouble is that for racing surely everyone must have one for it to be fair 🤔 😉
