The ute/pick-up has become, in 4x4 dual-cab form, one of Australia’s most popular genres of vehicle with the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger consistently topping the highest selling vehicles lists.
But, there are a few models out there that seem to be regularly overlooked, and deserve far more attention than they receive. These aren’t necessarily the best utes or pick ups but on the used market but they’re totally worth a look if you're in the market.
Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and don't forget to subscribe to stay up to date with all our latest content!

At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.
Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.
Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.
So we want to hear your thoughts. Hit us up in the comments, or on Instagram and Facebook.
We’d love nothing more than for you to give us as much feedback as possible, so we can make this channel the best it can be.

I think the OP is referring to the Ford Ranger, not a Range Rover!
Anyways, Mahindras are probably good light-duty pickups, but that's about it.. And the everyday experience is most certainly sub-par.. Just my 2 cents. 😊

Rangers are universal slang for unreliability, haven't heard anyone who owns one not have problems at one point, the dmax is the go to pickup for those who don't want to pay the Hilux tax

If the Mahindra does whatever you need and you're not fussed about living in the lap of luxury, you'd be bonkers NOT to get one on pure economics alone.
Isuzu d-max are everywhere in Thailand and compete with the more expensive Toyota and Fords. The old ones lack uumph and put out more soot than a steam train (model/year dependent lack of DPF ).

Ive had the Actyon Sports since new. It cost $35k drive away with towbar and canopy. At 200,000 km it's been crashed and had a whole new front, on an off road, towed anything and everything and beyond normal service items, only needed a $100 cam sensor. Honestly, it's the best value vehicle I've ever owned.

Brumby is a great choice for number 1!
I used to have a 1985 Touring Wagon that essentially had the same running gear as the Brumby, and it was awesome.
Would love to see a modern take on the old Brumby. That would be VERY interesting.

I’ve owned a 2021 Dmax Xterrain for nearly 12 months and used it for towing, little bit of off-road and driving to work and Overall ver pleased. It goes in for a service next week and I’m getting the new factory release towing update which should make things easier when towing. We have a 2.9ton caravan and I’m surprised how well it tows the van. Well after I updated the rear suspension it does.

The Subaru pickup sold like hot cakes in the UK during the 1980’s and I’m sure it still would do. The one ton dual cab pickups that tow 3.5 tons are great for people who need them but there is a massive hole in the market for smaller pickups these days and a pent-up demand from traders, farmers both large and small and many other sectors.

Numbers 5 and 4 were a suprise to see on the list but having the indestructible little Brumby as number 1 was a choice that surprised me in a good way.
A couple of other honourable mentions for this video would be the 1980s rodeo 2000/Isuzu (have one thats become a family heirloom in a way), Mazda BT-50, Land Rover Defender 110 with either the Isuzu or Leyland motor and the just as forgotten and underrated Daihatsu Rocky.
Also there is apparently a Brumby from Australia that is in the Subaru HQ/museum in Japan with over 1mil miles on the odometer. It apparently belonged to a rep for some company that dealt with Atkins Carlisle.

You can buy a suzuki sierra ute in better nic and much more capable for less. The patrol is not remotely unappretiated and has been of high value and in high demand from day one. The thing that bites the DMAX in the ass is its price. It is a decent ute, however when you look at the features when compared to a Ranger or Hilux, or even Triton, the Dmax is definitely not worth the price of entry, unless of course you buy the best of the best

    • @Thund3rcrash
      @Thund3rcrash Před 2 lety

The dmax is good value because you dont need to replace the engine or transmission every 150000km like you do with the 3.2L ranger. Ive got a 2011 dmax and a 2006 rodeo....which is a dmax and id rather drive the old rodeo across the country than a ranger coz even though its 16 years old it hasnt let me down

@@ReDriven hey, I'm a big fan of the 3rd generation, mostly because i own one myself, I'm from western Australia and I've heard they're a lot more popular over east if you could find a 1998 sedan rx model that would make my bloody day to see a review on my first car, but that might be a bit to picky of me to wish for something like that.
