@@castle6742 In theory you could, but Microsoft uses special partitioning on game disks so that normal drives can't read them. There have been modified Firmwares for some drives though so you could read Xbox game disks with a PC drive. Also, they aren't built into the motherboard. Sony AFAIK has the controller for the drive integrated into the motherboard, but it is a seperate Device like a normal pc drive in the XBox. They are cryptographically married to the mainboard int the XBox though, so you can't just swap the drives between XBoxes. This is a security measure by Microsoft though and wouldn't have to be there for it to work. And in theory every Manufacturer could make drives that can read those disks. Also, XBox one drives are made by Phillips and not by Microsoft.

Two things first you need a blueray drive and the usb has to be 3.0 or 3.1 in order for it to work and read the device. Thats my tip to help you out.

Its not because the dvd drive is married to the motherboard and the xbox all digital edition if you want it to work on uninstall the chip from what console its from and solder it on to the all digital edition xbox , BTW the ports are still there to put one in

I really wanted to say something that will help you out. Firstly, Xbox one cannot read code from different platforms as each platform has it's own decoding system. And next, in media player, it is technically saying that it detects no devices plugged in, not no CDs running.

From my experiences from attaching usb to xbox one, you usually have to format the new device. It could be different for the discless one.
Only on mass storage devices as this would be a reader it would have no option like this and what you do is change the file format from sometging like fat32 to NTFS
The drives in the console spin the discs at a special rpm proprietary to the console so the disc resonates at a certain frequency... thatâs how it tells itâs a legitimate game for the console so if you use a USB disc drive it wonât even know what youâre trying to feed it regardless

Just fyi xbox one s disk drives are locked to their specific motherboard so you cant swap drives.

All DVD drives that are inside are hardwired to xbox mother board, so all unofficial DVD-CD drives wont work, I think you should know that

most games for nintendo will be read by pc but has hidden partitions with some pointers to where data is, same for ps1 games
X360 should work if the game is the backwards compatibility list, but mostly the digital version has some fw changes so it only can work digitally

Itâs because that is a dvd and cd disk reader if you look on the back of game disks specifically PS4 and Xbox they have code on the back of the disks that can only be ready by a PS4 disk reader or xbox

Try downloading the blue ray player app.
That wont work become because a Blu-ray disc drive for the PC is not the same as the Xbox Drive system

Interesting enough, I'd be curious whether those external DVD drives, HL-ST- DVD-ROM GDR8082N would allow for the usage of Nintendo GameCube, Wii games as the drive paired with rawdump you can copy those game's. It would be awesome if the functionality is there for the Xbox One to do this as well or play them.
i believe the discless Xbox has USB ports in the back. itâs always the top port that works and the bottom doesnât. maybe that was the issue with the port on the front.
If only I got the original Xbox one (I can upgrade the hdd to 1 TB ) but how cost a 1 TB hdd

Yeah xbox uses blu rays that's just a portable DVD writer blu ray discs are incompatible to begin with plus game discs/blu ray discs have a security watermarks that standard consumer blu ray drives/DVD drives are unable to read for security reasons

To play discs Xbox 360 and Xbox One games with Discless Xbox One, try external Blu-ray disc drive. ;)

Digital Xbox 1 was created to be a cheaper alternative and aimed towards those who have online libraries of games and movies. Best option for the Digital is to buy a 4 or 8 TB external drive. Unfortunately can't play blu ray or 4K tho..so it's a trade off as a cheaper console.

Jacob I believe that Xbox One utilizes USB 3.0 connection. If the external DVD drive doesnât have USB 3.0 it might not show up

Did you make sure that your external disk drive doesn't have an another port? Some external disk drives are equipped with a power port & a data port.

Try going to settings and were you hook up devices like head sets controllers in your menu and try that
You have to plug the usb in the back right of the Xbox basically the side that has no vent on top
Have you tried putting the disc compatible consoles in the Xbox HDMI port so you could hook up OneDrive

The main problem here is that external dvd or blu-ray drives are not supported. Discless or not, they won't work. Then ok, it's a DVD drive so it can't read blu-ray but that would be something to consider only if the Xbox one supports external DVD/blu-ray drives (and it doesn't). Ah and a DVD writer is of course also a reader, that's really not a problem. The comment is made more as an answer to the loads of comment than to the creator of the video, cause i suppose he already knew what i just said even before making the video
