- After one full year & having crunched the numbers to see how our Mr Cool Universal Heat Pump performed in the winter and the summer combined we are ready to install another new MrCool Universal Heat Pump and show all the connections in detail. We connect the HVAC, The drain line, the quick connect no-vac refrigerant lines, and the wiring.

The winter performance results after installing the MrCool Universal in early fall. We previously had a gas furnace. When the A/C condenser died, we opted to install a MrCool universal heat pump with quick connect lines. Because we saved so much money on the Heat Pump, we were expecting that the additional heating costs from relying on electricity would not be too great.
Because Mr Cool Universal Heat Pump uses inverter technology, we could have the heat pump heat our mid western house without the need of a heat strip.
Heat pumps are awesome air conditioning solutions. But what about cold temperatures?
This video will show all our 1st winter costs.
We installed a Mr. Cool Universal heat pump to be our air conditioning and heating solution. Of course you would think Mr Cool air conditioning. But Mr Cool for heat? YES! Mr cool heat pump air conditioner all in one.
The Mr. Cool Universal uses a quick connect no-vac line set combined with an inverter system to bring economy to your wallet as well as the installation! Inn this video we show how we installed this heat pump as an answer to how 20 year air conditioner woes.
The pre-charged line set takes away a lot of the installation head aches and expense making this heat pump an attractive solution for the consumer. Though the Mr Cool Universal is not sold as a DIY heat pump, it is nearly easy enough to be a DIY heat pump install.
Mr Cool has also documented how their Mr Cool Universal Heat Pump can heat when temperatures are below zero without using a supplemental heat strip!

How many watts of power is typically used in your universal 2-3 ton unit? I have the emporia energy monitor and on my existing 15 year old York heat pump and air handler it’s constant 2000 watts for condenser and 850 watts for the air handler. I’m thinking of proactively installing the 2-3 ton Mr cool universal and was wondering if you would be able to share real world energy usage.

Max, the air handler can do like 5000 watts. But I’m not sure my experience will map to yours because the variable from house to house vary so much.
I would compare efficiency rating. My heat pump rarely runs non-stop at full 5000 watts for an hour…. - it has to be below zero F ( and even so we DO NOT have a heat strip.)
My 20 yr old gas furnace was 10 seer in winter and the new heat pump is the same. So the winter is not where we save. The summer rating is 18 seer.. that’s where we really save.
We too have an energy monitor and the coldest day this winter so far used 34 kWH of electric for the day by the air condenser and 1.5 kWh for the air handler total for the day. The air handler is light on electric use.

That unit heat too?? Or have to bay gas furnace??????
depends if you get the heat pump or cooling only condenser. the heat pump has a reversing valve that runs the unit in winter, heats at 100% of capacity down to 5 degrees below freezing. Supposed to still have 75% heating capacity at 22 degrees below freezing. Ours heats just as well in winter as it does cooling off the house in summer. Pretty satisfied with it.
Those DYI houses are horrible it's better to pay someone to make that connection. "Bendable" my butt
