    What a great personality. Agassi just resp. still is suffering from herniated disc and therefore wasn't able to play his tennis. He could have cancelled the event but he showed up for the crowd.
    What a legend!!!

    Guess those that commented didn’t hear Agassi at the end of the match ? He had a herniated disc in his back and still played ! Always the class act !! This also explains why he doesn’t play anymore . Agassi was always my favorite player .

      @@johnadams860 he was just stupid. Sampras is not obligated to contribute to charity, and that is not the only way to prove your class. Agassi can't stand not being in the spotlight and everything becomes personal w/him.

      Respectfully disagree . Andy Roddick proved that a ”hitch” or a pause makes no difference. Same for Boris Becker.
      Remember that the entire stroke of a serve is built around a “hitch” - the knee bend. Players MUST reverse direction and thrust off the ground and uncoil. Same goes for the shoulder turn.
      All part of uncoiling.
      Even Roger Federer “added” a small hitch and slowing of his service motion later in his career as he focused on his knee bend , toss, and shoulder turn.
      Regards.

      - The original commenter didn't state that a hitch made any difference. It was a mere observation that Pete's motion is as smooth as silk. I don't think anyone would disagree with that. Probably the only server who is just as smooth, if not a touch smoother, was Michael Stich.

    Pete is so awesome, but it's hard for him to maintain a consistently high level these days because his style was so dependent on explosive athleticism to get to the net, unlike Ed or Mac who used their serves to place the ball and give them time to get up front. If Pete used a heavy heavy kicker, which he's more than capable of, to get in, I think he'd be winning these titles left and right. His volleys are still world class.

      Not true, if Agassi did not ruin his life in some parts of the 90's then I believe he would've had many more grand slams under his belt. Also some of the matches they had together I felt Agassi always made unforced errors which cost him the match.

      Puneet Sharma I rooted for Agassi but Sampras was just better. A better athlete, a better champion, a better tennis player. Their last 2 US open matches kind of said it all.

      @@kchuk1965 Yes and that is the sad part. Hard Courts are Agassi's domain, basically he was born for hard courts but like I said, every time it seemed unforced errors cost him the match. Just look at the 3rd and 4th set tie breaks in the 2001 US open QF.

    • @kchuk1965
      @kchuk1965 Před 3 lety

      Puneet Sharma yes but a lot of that is because of the pressure of playing Sampras. Not many chances against his serve. And then on Agassi’s serve he knows if he gives up anything short Sampras is attacking. Plus the US open courts were still pretty fast in 2001 favoring Sampras. If they played like they have for the past few years that would have been great for Agassi.

      Ron P I think if they had played in conditions like those of today, with slower surfaces, slower balls, and luxilon strings, Agassi would have done better even at Wimbledon where Pete was all but invincible in the 90’s
