Used to open Tins. I do understand now a days the ration comes in food packets. But the extra food that chief cook would get during abondoning the ship, may have tins and cans for which a tin opener would be handy to open them easily

It means that in Cold weather as well as from the idel state when we start an engine it should be capable to work for 5min .
