Trivia: The last Samurai Warriors game came out in 2014, which was 7 years ago! This brand new Samurai Warriors features a brand new art style and returns Koei Tecmo's focus back to its tried and true gameplay! Hi all! This video is yet another unscripted one as you can tell and I want to ask for your feedback! I really want to get better at this kind of delivery, so please let me know what kinds of information you'd like to know about games in the future! It'll help me improve immensely! Don't worry - reviews will still be scripted!
Thanks for the feedback and for watching the video!
Great stuff, man. I’m so glad people I trust, like yourself, are singing it’s praises. It’s a good sign that the demo was just the start of the goodness
I hadn't even considered this game before, but it looks like a lot of fun! Really enjoyed the video, would be very happy to see more of these in the future 😊
I’m glad to hear you have the bow a chance! It’s a little slow at first but once you get used to it it’s super fun. I actually really loved the Canon and Ninja Dagger. Heck everything was pretty fun 😄
I tried the canon and loved it! The ninja daggers, I'll have to check 'em out again. Last time I played, I was underwhelmed by the damage...
Having Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate and Samurai Warriors 4 Empires on my PS4. i really was expecting more than a new artwork and some mechanics from older games now in SW. When i saw the Rage mode (which Sengoku Basara on Wii already had) and PW4-like specials, i just can't in good reason believe this should be priced as a full game. And knowing Koei Tecmo, you can bet characters and weapons will come in mass as lots and lots of Dlc packs. Imagine how nice was booting up the demo to find young Nobunaga has Sakon's moveset and Hideyoshi just using a generic spear, while No became Ina and they turned Ieyasu into a kid Liu Bei.
But that's just from someone which, after playing the series since it's beginnings, think they could and should do more than just change the art direction, which is beatiful, by the way. This is a perfect entry point for newcomers though, and your video just solidified that for me. Sadly we can probably expect some ultimate editions and Koei to probably shot themselves in the foot once again. But hey, now i can't wait for SW5 Empires. Great job on the video man!
I personally don't think the mainline Warriors games are worth picking up on the regular for the reasons that you described. Even early on in the PS2 era, I identified that the "improvements" were so trivial that the series wasn't worth checking out regularly. That said, I've made it a point to at least check on it once each generation, and I found that the improvements feel more substantial that way.
Excellent review! I have never played this type of game before since I feel I would get bored but this might be a good starter for me!
I think it's a fun one to try!
This is my first traditional style musou game and I'm absolutely loving it 🔥
That's awesome! Glad to see you're enjoying it!
Watched 2 reviews/impressions so far and both of them have very positive experience and ratings. This review solidifies it for me. Thank you. Very detailed and honest 1st impressions.
You’re welcome! Glad I could be of help!
your unscripted went surprisingly well. It felt on track but without the informality of a script. if that makes any sense lol. sometimes only i know what i'm saying.... and sometimes even i don't know what I said.
Love the games as they are a great way to relax and I'm a huge fan of the history of the Sengoku Jidai. Multiple theories around Nobunaga with each ones having truth to them and having disbelief to them.
Man it feels refreshing to hear a positive response for SW5! My god, nearly a lot of the hardcore fans were slamming this game hard like the artstyle change(I can understand that gripe), clones and certain characters from the previous games not in this one(the certain wife of a certain monkey comes to mind), but at least you were positive and not going all oh my god we have clones again or my god these new designs sucks or certain characters are ass now and the new characters are garbage......like the clones I definitely can understand and the same with the clones issue and some of the new designs for the characters feel off, but again at least you are open to this one and hey my friends are still getting the game despite all of the complaints they had. Nice first impressions!
I may check this out. I don’t play these kind of games much, but I look of this one.
There's a demo out for it if you still want to try it out!
The only Samurai Warriors game I've played so far is 3 for the Wii, but I did enjoy what it had to offer, glaring historic inaccuracies aside (Magoichi being Masamune's retainer...). I have wanted to give SW4 a shot one day, as it does look like a lot of fun from what I've seen, and most of my issues with 3 seem to be addressed.
What makes me aprehensive about getting 5 though, are the apparent clone characters. When they've already cut the roster down to a select few Samurai, I would've thought they'd flesh said samurai out even more to provide more variety between them, but it disappoints me that Omega Force wouldn't do even that. I like this game's artstyle, and the revamped looks for certain characters (Nobunaga's younger design reminds me of his two appearances in Nioh 2), and I'm a huge buff on the Sengoku era, but I think I'll wait for a sale if I ever do decide to buy this one.
This does give me hope for Sengoku BASARA 5 though... I know how much Capcom love to shoot back with their answer to Samurai Warriors whenever we get a new entry.
I haven't played a whole lot of Musou/Warriors (most have been for other properties, like Dragon Quest Heroes for example) but I really dig the new art style, it makes the game pop in a fun way that I really think fits the tone and style of the games. From everything I've seen of this one, it look like Omega stepped up the production values for the whole game
Presentation-wise, they definitely did!
@@BacklogBattle I noticed there was a Switch version! Musou on the go is definitely an appealing prospect, especially with those 5 minute battles
Great impressions video. Dynasty Warriors Gundam is my personal favorite of the Warriors series but Samurai is my second. I'm happy to hear this new one turned out well.
I'll get it after a sale, since these titles tend to be too repetitive to justify a full $60 to me.
It *is* pretty pricey for $60. I personally get one of these once every generation so I don't get burned out on them heh
Love these type of games.
digital switch and Ps4 psychical version 😄 maybe as a sale because I'm tapped out I ran all the one piece games as a marathon and getting the platniums was kinda time consuming lol
The One Piece Warriors games were great! I wish I waited for Part 4 to come out before picking up 3!
You don't play Koei/Tecmo for the story? Persona 5 Strikers was great for that. The 4 selectable ultimate skills thing is from Pirate Warriors 4 and I'm ecstatic that there's more buffs available. I hope there'll be an online mode, I put over 350 hours into PW4s co-op.
Koei Tecmo Warriors games as I said, so those two don’t count because P5S is published by Atlus and Pirate Warriors was published by Bandai Namco!
@@BacklogBattle damnit man, I yield!
I’m so hyped. Tonight at midnight I’ll be streaming it.
Let me know what you think of it when you play it!
@@BacklogBattle gladly!
I think im going to have to pick this one up. The demo ran really well on the switch, dunno if its cut down or not but i daresay i might pick this one up on the ps4, or pc if i ever get my rig sorted out. Love to play these types of games every now and then. They can get a little repetitive if you play them back to back, but every now and then i find it fun to sink dozens of hours in every so often.
I'm with you. If you get them on the regular, I can definitely see getting burned out by them. But I haven't really bought any game in the series for a very long time!
There is nothing more relaxing than mowing down hundreds of enemies with one super move lol! Great game choice for relaxing! This game looks pretty awesome. It’s good to see they did away with that empty open world system they experimented with in previous games.
That's actually what I was alluding to when I said that the dev team went back to its roots. DW9 was a good experiment in that they got to try something new, but didn't stick the landing. And that's perfectly fine!
Anybody else think this music sounds a lot like Laguna's battle theme from FFVIII?
Really love the warriors series especially the samurai titles. I hope we also get another Empire game.
When was the last time they made one?
Looks fun however I have fire emblem warriors and dragon quest heroes on my backlog. Hope the switch physical version goes on sale but unlikely since it’s Koei Techmo .
That’s a lot of Warriors games!
enemies just stand there waiting to be hit ... its like a one big mini game on how long can your combo last
And I love it for that! lol
I had no interest in this game previously, but this actually looks pretty fun. I might have to pick it up.
It’s a lot of good mindless hack and slash fun!
I truly love Musou games but am skeptical to purchase them on release due to the amount of DLC and Special Editions that come out. It really taints the experience for me.
Understandable. I've never really been prone to want the DLC characters anyway in any of the games Koei Tecmo releases, so I've never seen that as a problem. I find that the core experiences are solid enough that I don't need them.
I like the unscripted. It worked well and had good pacing.
I haven't heard of this game but I know of the format. If my backlog wasn't so big, I would pick it up.
It's pretty fun if you want the feeling of juggling and beating up hundreds of enemies at once!
Nice review
Not a review, but thank you
Are there strategy cards/scrolls?
What do they do? Maybe they're in the game in a different form.
@@BacklogBattle Well, they were in Samurai Warriors 4 Empires. Basically, you had different battle formations you could use to gain field advantages, and you could call in special units like rifleman or firebombers also. I thought maybe they would return in 5..
@@EnnuiPilgrim ah the riflemen, etc are part of Citadel Mode as I talked about in the video! There’s no battle formations as far as I know.
@@BacklogBattle I see. 😕 Thanks for responding. Maybe when 5 Empires comes out they will return..
I haven't enjoyed a Warriors game since 8, and even then I thought it was a step back from 7 in most ways. Ambition mode was good, the return of unique weapon sets for each character were great, the gameplay, story, voice acting and overall presentation were massively inferior and it's a trend I notice continues throughout all their games these days.
I personally found Samurai Warriors 5, much like DW9, to play like ass and just felt 'off'. I can only assume there's been exodus of talent over at Tecmo-Koei what with how garbage the Warriors and ROTK game series' have become.
