- Overnight urban camp at beacon hill Halifax.
bivvi bag camping in cold winter temperatures. Overnight temperature dropped down to -1°C or even -2°C.
Beacon hill is a great place for an overnighter camp and it's a great view of Halifax Town centre.

Another good video Dan. No need to apologise to others that it's not that cold here in the UK. -1 degrees C in the UK with its high humidity is quite a lot more uncomfortable and potentially more dangerous than the much lower temps some other countries experience during winter. As a rough rule of thumb temps below approx -7C the humidity becomes extremely low which is why you will not see your breath or get frost on your vehicle's windscreen/windshield at temps lower than around -7C because everything is actually very dry. In the UK its not uncommon to have 80% to 90% or even higher humidity in the winter. It's the cold damp/moisture that chills you to the bones sucking the heat from you via conduction. A good friend of mine lives in Canada and regularly experiences extremely cold temps but always says he feels much colder when he is here in the UK at winter time due to the damp conditions. If anyone is not convinced try sitting outside in a cold bath of water at positive 10 degrees C, guaranteed you will soon wish you were dry in minus 10 degrees C or lower. Second thoughts people, please don't try this anyone as it could prove very dangerous and not end well for you. Anyway Dan loving videos, always entertaining, keep them coming.
I remember a retired BA pilot telling me what you just said.. different kind of cold over here he said, it chills you to the bone.. he'd worked all over the world including Alaska.
Being open and honest really makes you stand out from the crowd 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤩
It's the best way to be honest
If you're getting bored with out door camping, may I suggest what we did, back in the day? Set up your tent, in your mates bedroom! Eat chocolate, crisps and soft drinks, chatting all night. Handy for toilets and fridge for after 3am snacks!
Great video Love from Scotland :D
Thanks for another great vid, love it wherever you camp
We are hitting the wood very soon
Cracking video Dan!! Love the views! 🏕⛺️
Awesome video. Always enjoy your adventures. Cheers 🍻, take care and stay frosty.❄️🌲🇨🇦🏕🇬🇧🌲❄️
A lovely view of Halifax Dan. My wife’s a Leeds lass so will enjoy this.
The MRE’s and dehydrated meals are great, but they’re very expensive! Otherwise a great setup as always mate👍🏻
Nice little camp out with a difference, Lovely skies, My fave part of camping is waking up in the morning and looking out on a new day while im cozy in my hammock, the bivvy looks like a ground hammock with condensation to me lol
Wicked little video and to top it off you could see my house from there lol nice to see my home town on a vlog 👍👍
I put my inflatable mattress under my hooped bivvy and slept on a thin foam foil mattress. Another great video mate. I love using my Elan👍
Urban camp is good Dan it’s something different great video very informative
Good to see someone else camping up beacon hill, never see anyone! Right on my doorstep and an absolutely amazing view. Typical Halifax weather 🤣
Nice camp
Find a spot, see a spot and have a camp,
What better, I like the woods but prefer the hills, it’s nice to mix it up.
Keep em coming
Nothing wrong with something different. Good watch as always.
Absolutely brilliant location mate, perfect “Urban Camp”
Love that your out with your friends and how kind of you to get vegan outdoors a boil in the bag meal 💕
I thought Yorkshire people we hard and -1 was nothing unlike us soft southerners where anything below 3 is way to cold 🐾😂
Brings back some memories, used to work in halifax 30 year's ago! Nice camp mate 👍
Hi greenman thankyou for watching mate 😊
Great video mate. Fantastic view from up there.
Hi Philip yes the view was nice but just not my sort of seen I missd the woods
Incredible!
I walked up there once when I visited Halifax one time, lovely views
Hi English Woodsman Just found you a few weeks back and im really enjoying it... I've started my channel a few months back but its more a pub shed channel called PHIL Your Boots but im also going to get back into wild camping that ive not done in years.... Not sure weather to start a new channel for this or continue with my existing.... anyway loving all your videos, slowly working through them all it looks exactly like what i want to look like... really down to earth and i love that.... KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK English Woodsman
Great view and video mate
Great video good camp in the cold it makes you feel alive.👍
Just got back from a proper old fashioned butchers, Cumberland / Black Pud / back bacon + home made bread butty + watching your vid. Nice relaxing Saturday. Cheers
Another good video Dan....keep it up
Thanks Dan nice vid. I have similar geartech v2 hooped bivi and never take my down bag those trips (Alpkit duck down bag - v good!!), always take my synth bag because of condensation. Really bad in mine. Especially the first winter ones, so always a summer bivi for me. I do like that bivi but the condensation can be bad.
I was only doing a shoot at the piece hall earlier this week, I was looking up at that hill thinking it’d be a fair view over the town from up there. Cheers for saving my legs 😂😂 I’m sure I’ll get up for a look when I’m over that way again though.
It's good that you mix your camping style up , makes things more interesting for your Viewers , Be Well my Friend , love to the Family too !❤👍
Have a great weekend mate
Nice one Dan, I was out camping last night and it was bitterly cold down here in London but was ok in my new repro lavvu... Take care look forward to the next one..ATB Chris.
Nice vid loved the sun set
Thankyou for watching we are hoping to get back and setup are hammock soon.
Boris Johnson resigned that's hilarious, Halifax was so excited they ring the bells twice. Great vid, but where is the toffee?
Variety is the spice of life. Interesting camp, great view. Stay safe atb 👍🦊
Love the sound of the church bells
Wow yes wow what a view of halifax
I really like the design of the bivy, especially how the hoops keep the material off one's face.
Loved your impersonation of Phil Mitchel well done for putting this out another great video
😅😅😅😅 thankyou for watching
Alright mate? New sub so checking in and my first video, how cool was that?? Could hear the bells, thanks for uploading and I look forward to more
Great vid, I love a bit of wild camping but I still don't know how you do the cold ones 🥶
Cracking vid Dan
Thankyou Devon wild
Fair play on change of scene. That's a fine stone wall behind you. I'm happiest in the woods too 👍🏼
I can't wait to hit the woods again
great video
Wicked camp mate 👌
Cracking video again Dan enjoyed it very much 👍 😀 👌
Hi brindle2009 I was waiting for your comment 🤣, thankyou for alway being around
Phil Mitchell? More like Butch Dingle 🤣 was a good camp that mate! Looks like all your gear worked well and kept you warm👍
🤣🤣🤣
nice one dan sweet little spot
Yep I hear the bells.
Hi Dan, ,-2 in the UK with our damp weather can be miserable, so nice to see your friends out for an urban camp. I know that heat exchanger cookers are effective plus you use it a lot. Perhaps I could share my preference? In 1979 I bought a trangia spirit set-up, I still have & use. Of course I have replaced the worn pans and am on the 3rd burner. My point being it's super Stealthy also no noise in use. Enjoying the videos catch you soon. Allan B
Hi mate thankyou for watching and taking the time to comment
dan wherever ya go is cool with us,variety is whats its all about.camping in this country with ice forming on ya basha is as bad as it gets.hope your camp food channel is sorted mate..
At Least the Coffee survived mate , If that had gone , I would have been Crying ! lol.😂
Dan, these are the sort of vids I enjoy of yours the most. obviously minus the fire. I was thinking maybe a small tarp over your head so you can at least open the top of the bivi.
Hi Dan , Its not the same camping as you are here , as it is in the Woods , more things you could do there , I used to carve Wood , or build something from wood to kill the boredom !😊
spot on views. Some binoculars would be a treat at that location. Sort the boredom out a bit....plenty beers help aswell lol
Thankyou for watching
Just Subscribed from my other channel ! same message below.... Keep up the good work.... Hi English Woodsman Just found you a few weeks back and im really enjoying it... I just wish I had someone to come out camping with to share the experience. Most of my friends think I’m a nutter camping out.
Things don't have to have a wow factor every time, it's just good to get out. It is what it is Dan. Goodbye Boris 👋 I worked in Halifax and Keighley- right folk. Aye can heat 🔔 🛎
Bells sound awesome 👍😎
Great view of Halifax at night 👍 Have you ever camped at Ogden reservoir ? Are you even allowed to camp there ? I'm not sure.
Good video beautiful view I enjoyed the video 🙂
Thankyou for watching
Was christned not too far from Halifax , place called Southowram not been there for eons though . :)
Good video Dan. Instead of just going to a spot and setting up and filming, why not incorporate a hike to it etc..? You could find a hut somewhere. Just an idea mate. Love your videos what ever you do. Stay true and safe mate 👍
Thankyou for your comment
great vid, new sub.
I like the fact that you cook your food well. I like my meal piping hot and I like my coffee nice and hot. I don't let my steak sit 10 minutes before eating.
That looked a cold one, fair play to the three of you. Nice looking stove, i have been thinking of getting one of them. Which sleeping bag was better for price/ comfort ratio, the one that you used in this video or the oex leviathan. Thanks for the video and stay safe.
Outdoor vitals mate
23:32 - Probably 'Dog Hill' (435m), over towards Ripponden/Rishworth. I camped up there Friday night. 👍🏼
Hill in background is Boulsworth hill, the peak is Ladlaw summit.
Looking at the lights in the distance Id be wondering what all the people were doing. (Nosey me)
I can understand you feeling bored, but you werent alone and had time to relax. You need to take a big goodie bag lol
Enjoyed as always 🙂
I have the same cookware Dan. It is great for boiling water quick mate. Not sure if you are aware, be careful when using in a tent because of the falling over issue because it can go off like a fire bomb.
My home town 😀Great video
Come to Dorset, we’ll have a camp out
Yeah i heard the bells!=8)
If you're sometimes feeling bored, why not try incorporate some walking/hikes/exploring near where you're camping or trying new challenges like carving your cutlery or making a certain type of fire etc. Or Q&A's with the 3 of you round the fire etc
Hi my old stomping ground you get some good views from up there
Hi mate it was nice might try going back up in the summer
I'm in Huddersfield lad..plenty of places over here for a bit of wild camping.
Have you and Scott thought about climbing mountains and hiking to them and camping up there in the clouds? Have you thought of running challenges like getting out of your comfort zones and doing things you never have before? Would that help you with the boredom. You are speaking of? Thank you for all of your videos. I am an Aussie.
Hardcore !!!
Another enjoyable video Dan. Could i just ask? Is that unigear air mat any good? Thanks
It's brilliant mate I have used it all year now
Remember that people watch to see you and your experiences. I know for a fact if you're not enjoying it then the viewers won't either, so stay true to what you like and if that's woodland camps and nothing else then so be it. Basically don't feel obligated to provide content at the expense of your enjoyment, because you enjoying yourself is why everyone watches, you'll also soon lose interest in providing content. You still made the most of this camp though and appeared to enjoy it over all. When I'm demotivated, I like to remember what it is that draws me to camping in the first place, and then go somewhere that gives me that experience. Looking forward to that vegan food review when it comes, that was a nice tie-in to your other channel.
All the best.
Yer right, Winter camping in the UK can be boring, if its raining and your stuck in a wee tent for 16 hours, a dark sky on a clear night in the hills is good, but wrap up!
Great video boss
It's only been on 6 minutes mate , did you watch it in fast mode?
which way did you and scot go to get up there "same as vegan outdoors".
loved the view.
peace pall
Yes mate the easy way 😅😅😅
I live in fax nice view from up there during day as well
It's a great view mate
Never thought of bivouacing there myself great videos I enjoy watching them
-1 in U.K. feels much colder than -1 in Canada does. It’s the dampness that makes it worse than the dry cold of Canada.
Local news suggests that they're filming a Marvel film/TV show in the piece hall next week! Think you may have found a cracking spot to spy on this!
Great little view there, where did you get your cup cozy from? Been looking and can't find one.
Amazon mate but I can't find it now
Re watching lol 😁🌟
Your in my town thank you for visiting
👍👍👍
Looked like a nice outing too bad the hot chocolate didn’t make it. If you are bored at night in the open you should get a small binoculars to look at the sky’s you would be amazed by the views. Food is not a fix for boredom you need to be comfortable by yourself in the quiet solitude. Have fun on your outings and stay safe.
I know what you mean about boredom, Atleast in the woods you’ve got camp management to distract you. Atleast your out with the lads
Hi, I’m planning a 10-12 day coast to coast walk in a couple of months. I’m camping every night I was wandering if you have and advice on how many pairs of socks to take? And will I be able to wash them on rout?
Thanks so much and keep the content coming, we love it!!!
Hi mate sorry I have never done anything that big so I would not have a clue
Sealskins to keep your feet dry and merino wool, expensive but worth every penny, if you have fires you can wash your socks, for 10-12 days, I'd take 4 pairs wool plus a pair of sealskins and a pair of down tent slippers
Haha I worked on peace hall years ago
I’ve only seen Halifax from the M62 so a similar view to what you’ve had. Great sleeping in a bivi I bet?
My home town is Halifax
Great video mate, #truesdaletv does the same sort of thing. Brilliant entertainment 👏
You need custard for that brownie!
Phil on the Hill lol
🤣🤣🤣
Comrade same as mate :)
..cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you…
Thankyou for watching
@@englishwoodsman Thank you very mutch... have a nice Weekend.... see you….
No steak how disappointing comrade :) those Russian meals look good 👍
Urban
Good point thankyou
@@englishwoodsman Not being facetious, the English language is important. Like your videos always something different.
If you're bored with your camping..do what I do, bring some good scotch and good music.
