Love the video content. You're one of the reasons I started building my own rifles. Just finished building my own 6.5 PRC. Blueprinted a factory Rem 700 action, refaced the bolt and installed m16 extractor. S.S. Douglas barrel 1:7.5 twist. Made my own radial muzzle brake. First groups are well under 1/2 MOA. Just waiting for better weather to do more testing. Keep up the good content.

Gavin.... Nice rifle with outstanding results. I bought a Christensen arms Traverse for lightweight semi-custom built rifle. Did a load work up after barrel break-in. After trying several bullets and heard great results N565....I found a 1/2 moa group with Berger 156gr EOL and N565. MV of 2966 with slight ejector marks on the ADG brass. Then I went hunting.
Had a great year in 2019 with this rifle and cartridge. Took a 6x6 bull Elk and a pretty decent pronghorn in Colorado. Then drew a Michigan bull tag for elk for 2019. Took a nice 6x6 bull that dressed at 560 lbs.
Needless to say, I love this cartridge and love the Berger 156's. Granted, it's all about shot placement with this round... With it's ballistics, I believe, makes it easier. You will have your nay Sayer's that say you need a heavy hitting .30 caliber bullet for Elk... But the swedes have been using 6.5's years taking moose. The two Elk I took last year were dead on the first shot and didn't know it. Michigan Elk fell over in 15 yards... Colorado Elk went about 40 yds. If I wouldn't of put another bullet in him, I believe, he would of dropped where he stood.
Your going to love that gun and round!
Looking forward to your load development. Nice job on the rifle!

Mine is a Bighorn Origin with a 26” Krieger 1-7 4 groove LT Palma WTO switch barrel housed in a KRG Brovo, Athlon Cronus BTR with Nightforce light weight rings and a timney Calvin elite 2 stage. Barreled action built by WTO and I did the rest.....most of the parts were used on forums. Mine is a little on the chubby side lol weighing in at around 14# fully equipped minus ammo.

If you are spending the money for lightweight, get a titanium end cap for the omega. They’re significantly lighter.
I run them on my hybrid when running .308/7.62 and .224/5.56. Not much money and the location of the weight removed (all the way at the end) makes a huge difference.

I'm liking that combo of ti action, CF wrapped barrel and CF stock AND Trigger Tech trigger. Pretty much my choice IF I had the $$$.
My 6.5 PRC Browning X-Bolt Pro (6 lbs. 3 oz.) has-> stainless steel barreled action, >factory lapped barrel, >fluted barrel, bolt and bolt handle, >CF 360deg. wrapped stock, >2 lb. 12 oz. trigger, >burnt bronze Cerakote on metal and stock, >Talley bronze Cerakoted rings, Bushnell LRTS 4.5 - 18 x 44 scope W/G3 illuminated reticle. 1/2 MOA GROUPS W/HORNADY 143 GR. ELD-X AMMO!!
Yeah, not custom but "semi-custom". I live in Nevada and need a long range rifle.

  • @powersawtomfoolery6739

Thanks for giving such thorough information in a quality video technique. I just did a 300 PRC for a friend and it shot sub MOA with factory ELDM's and sub 1/2 MOA with hand loads. Built on a factory Ruger 77 (tang safety), Lilja #6 fluted, Lilja 4 port brake in a Boyd's thumbhole, properly bedded and it just shoots! I just bought a blueprinted 700, AG Composite Privateer stock and a Lilja stainless barrel for a 6.5 PRC mountain rifle build. Now the wait...I hope my results are as good as yours! Great job on yours!

I built a custom 6.5PRC as well. McMillan A5 stock, bartlein barrel number 11 contour (medium palma) finished at 26" with flush muzzle break with 6 deep flutes. PTG blue printed Remington 700 short action with M-16 Extractor that was packaged with a stealth M5 bottom metal compatible with AI mags. I chose the 3 round Ruger 6.5 PRC AI mags from cheaper then dirt and 1, 10 round Alpha mag for 300WSM. It looked too long in my opinion!
Timney Calvin Elite trigger set at around 1.5lbs.
Spuhr 34mm rings and Spuhr rail.
Matched with my Athlon Cronus made in Japan, scope in MOA. LOVE IT so far.

I bought a CVA Cascade in 6.5 PRC and have only put 20rds through it so far. I’ve got another 20 and then I’ll be working up my own load with components I have on hand. Times are tough to start reloading a new rifle! Same goals though I wanted a light weight solid hunting rifle that I can shoot 1000+ yards on the weekend with and not break the bank either! Put a vortex HST 4-16 scope on it and for my needs/wants it’s perfect.

  • @njgrplr2007
    @njgrplr2007 Před 4 lety

Gavin, congratulations on a beautiful rifle. The rifle is almost perfect as it stands, but I would like to suggest a few changes: 1) add a 2" Picatinny rail mount for the bipod, 2) use an American Defense Manufacturing Harris Bipod Mount to quickly attach/detach the bipod, 3) replace the Harris bipod feet with Kahntrol PodMod adapters, and 4) use QD flush cups instead of the sling swivel studs.
When you can quickly and quietly attach the bipod, there's no need to lug it around attached. Then, you can leave the bipod or even multiple bipods in your backpack and choose the one that's appropriate for the situation you encounter. I find it's a lot safer when the extra weight isn't canting the rifle back towards my 6'7" hunting partner behind me as we hike.
The Harris bipod feet are OK, but they are often not what you would want in the field. The Kahntrol PodMod adapters enable you to choose from a variety of interchangeable Atlas bipod feet (e.g., rubber, spike, claw, etc) and you can even employ 4" Atlas bipod leg extensions to enable a 5-9" bipod to do double duty as a 9-13" model. FYI, I find it is much easier to load the bipod consistently with the Atlas feet.
I like the QD flush cups for two reasons: 1) I can quickly take off the sling when I get to my stands and don't have to worry about it waiving in the wind/alerting game, and 2) catching a stud on an object as the rifle is recoiling can cause accuracy problems on the bench or in the field.

Gavin, you should totally just have videos that are hours of you just working on barrels/actions/lathe and set it to the music like Larry Potterfield used to in the MidwayUSA videos, I could watch content like that for hours haha

Hi, I had noticed exactly the same thing almost every time I made some tests on the action screws : the rifle shoots almost always better when you apply the same torque or a bit more on the front screw as the rear.
It reminds me also a Savage rifle that gave weird inconsistent accuracy depending on the way I was holding it (it has 3 action screws instead of 2, why???). When you screw the action on a stock that doesnt fit (bad bedding), you bend both parts and get something like a "spring" ; because you cannot exert se same pressure on the stock every time, this "spring" will react differently to the vibrations caused by each shot, so the barrel cannot vibrate 2 times the same way and send each bullet in the same direction. Barrel hamonics can affect the point of impact of about 1 MOA and sometimes more, getting consistent barrel harmonics is the key.

Looks pretty sweet. Seems heavier than lightweight imo.
I'm debating the 6.5prc and 7mm PRC.... also 1 do all vs 2 rifles, with the 2nd being ultra lightweight sheep rifle in 6.5prc, but if the 1st do all is the 7prc....light vs ultralight,

Beautiful rig. It's one of my favorites calibers. The one that can do all. How about now a 6mm PRC!! Yes, it's right 6 PRC...neckle down that brass from the 6.5 and put a 26" barrel 6mm barrel and make some 105 Berger hybrid bullets, voila! 3490 fps more or less ;)

I think it's a very universal rifle that I need. We happen to have an AMAZING 1 mile range here in Ohio, that we accurately shoot our .257 Creedmoor and 6.5 Creedmoor out to. The owner of the range is currently in the process of expanding out to 2850,,, so know I will need either a 6.5 -or- .257 PRC or a SAUM in same caliber. By the way,, check out the .257 131gr Blackjack ACE bullet that we run. G7 BC of .340 makes 1 mile easy. Keeping pretty consistent 10'' groups at 1mile. Come on out and I'll put you behind the gun and make a believer out of you.

Great looking rifle, I recently purchased a Bergara Ridgeback in 6.5prc. I haven’t shot it yet due to the lack of recommended powder availability. My other Bergara is an awesome shooter, so I’m expecting the ridgeback to be as well. Can’t wait till your load work up video, I was hoping to use H1000, but that powder is basically non existent at the moment.
