Touch proprioception

  • This video presents the pathway of touch and proprioception.
    - 1st order neuron ascends in the same side of spinal cord (Dorsal column) and medullar as gracil and cuneat tracts until it ends in gracil and cuneate nuclei. Gracil tract is medial and carrying sensation from lower half of the body while cuneate tract is lateral and carries sensation from upper half of the body.
    - 2nd order neuron, crosses to the opposite side, ascends through brainstem as medial lemniscus until it ends in PVL nucleus of thalamus
    - 3rd order neuron, projects from thalamus to the cerebral cortex (upper part of postcentral gyrus and paracentral lobule).
    Injury of Dorsal column or gracil and cuneate tracts causes ipsilateral loss of proprioception
    Injury of medial lemniscus (2nd order neuron) or 3rd order neuron causes contralateral loss of proprioception.
    Loss of proprioception causes disturbed balance, astergnosis (inability to recognize an object by touch while the eye is closed), also loss of two points discrimination.

      check the playlist, there is 2 parts of spinal cord and one of them has blood supply of spinal cord. also there is one videos that discusses the blood supply of cerebral cortex. if you do not find them let me know and i will send you the link for them.

    I dont know how to reach out to you so I am commenting on here. I am have an exam on friday and I was wondering if you could make videos on nerve and blood supply of anterior and posterior abdominal wall and pelvis and perineum region and how it connects to the lower extremity. I think those would be really helpful. Also if you dont have time to make those videos this week, i understand. But I would suggest adding those. Love your videos and explanation. So thankful for you for making these videos and connecting everything

      CLARIFICATION-I know you did femoral artery but that does not include all the little branches of internal illiac and where do those branches go. Those would be super helpful. Also sciatic nerve and its branches and muscles of the lower extremity and what nerves would innvervate those muscle and what would happen if we have a nerve damage videos on that topic would be great. Just like how you have videos on upper extremity
