When a President's dignity was a prerequisite
AND, we were told (with “dignity”) to knit sweaters to survive winter, because energy wasn’t coming?
@@debbie5728 Yes, because of what Carter inherited, after the 1973 Arab oil embargo. Which, BTW, happened when Nixon was the president.

The story of his dismantling of the Canadian nuclear reactor is the stuff of legend. Carter was one of the few engineers in the world qualified to lead the project. Learning that a worker could remain in the reactor room for only 90 seconds, Carter developed a plan which cycled workers through the reactor room as they completed the project safely, 90 seconds at a time. Carter was in the reactor room 89 seconds. Courage.
He was willing to sacrifice his own life for others
Taking risks for others, risking his own life in a test he devised trying to keep workers safer, workers brave enough to work in a nuclear reactor in the first place.
Thanks, I was unaware.
There is nothing unique about this. Time limits in high radiation fields are standard practice in the nuclear industry.

Also, while in grade school, my teacher had our class write letters to Amy Carter, the president's daughter, when he was elected!
More like a huge ego. No true Christian would publicize themselves to the world about how saintly they are.
you guys know presidents are just actors and governements hire doppelgangers and no one knows if there is really a jimmy carter
@@seanswinton6242 you said basically what I feel. There have been some really good Presidents of the USA since Jimmy Carter, but , like you, I don’t think we are liable to see someone like him at least not in the near future. That must have been great, meeting him at the book signing. Also, what you said about Amy Carter, getting letters from your class is significant, as she was a student in a regular Washington DC public school. President Clinton, and President Obama, the only two other presidents since Jimmy Carter to have school age children while they were in office, sent their children to private schools. Even when Jimmy Carter was in office, while I thought him sending Amy to public school was commendable, I think she might have been more comfortable in a private school setting. She obviously turned out fine though.

I always believed that President Carter was given mostly unfair and undeserving criticism. I see someone that should have been given more credit that he was. If I was to sum him up, it'd be with the in the words Courage, Respect, Honesty, Caring, and Unselfish. I always admired him for taking his responsibilities as a leader so seriously and willingly. No other political figure in my lifetime has displayed such, and history shows too that only a few may have rendered as much.
when you mention carter to a Republican, though, it's always "but what about the gas lines!"
The 'gas lines' (it was just the Memorial Day week in '79) was caused by a prolonged - and unprecedented - shutdown at the Amerada-Hess Virgin Islands refinery - then the largest in the free world.
Since Hess distributed to multiple chains (besides its own), it led to a supply domino effect.
George H.W. Bush - whom Hess supported (as he had backed Nixon in '72) - threw his hat in the ring *that same week* .
I think his brother Billy didn't help him much from a PR point of view. :)

Jimmy Carter negotiated the release of the hostages, start to finish. The hostage takers waited until Ronald Reagan's inauguration for the release, so that Reagan would receive credit for it. Just to thumb their nose at Carter, who came out on top. And Reagan did take credit for it, although he did nothing. Carter's staff wanted him to clarify who really negotiated the deal, but Carter said the hostages are all home safe, and that's all that matters. That's the kind of man he is.
Also, being a nuclear physicist by training helped him to know exactly what questions to ask and actions to be taken in the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant meltdown.
The myth that he was a soft, ineffective president was promulgated by the Republican party, to win elections. Their M.O. is to turn their opponent's strengths against them, as we saw with the swift boating of John Kerry.
We need incredibly intelligent, empathetic public servants like Carter, not ill-equipped, cruel megalomaniacs like Reagan, little Bush, and especially Trump.
The American people chose to believe a B list movie cowboy had negotiated the hostage release through sheer force of will, even though the evidence was before them. And we paid for our stupidity.
Christians wanted him in the WH and then rejected him once he was voted in.
Of all the politicians who claim to be a Christian Jimmy Carter was a true Christian and showed the world what a true Christian really is. All the manual labor work he did building homes for the poor around the world was truly selfless, honorable, and again, an example of true Christianity. He is an amazing man!
Because Carter was a bad President. As far as Christianity, Jimmy Carter was very in your face about what a great man he was and kept himself in the spotlight. True Christians don't need to keep telling the world how wonderful they are, as the Bible says. He was just like Jerry Lewis and "Jerry's kids", using the Muscular Dystrophy Association to keep himself famous. Well, Carter already has his reward, and it won't be heavenly.
Because you don't want a true to the book Christian in charge of a nation. "You cannot have two gods for you'll love one and hate the other." To be in that position, you must turn from God. Carter was too weak.
I have so much respect and admiration for President Carter and what he stands for. Thank you sir for being a role model and a voice for the have nots.

Something about the timing of this event seemed suspicious (too perfect a set-up for Reagan).
@@kevinmichael9482 It was co-ordinated. Reagan's campaign team told the Iranians he would give them a better deal if they delayed releasing the hostages till after he won. Nixon did something similar with the North Vietnamese during the peace talks with Johnson.
Jimmy Carter is a true hero in every sense of the word. Canada will always be grateful for Lieutenant Carter and his team's bravery and sacrifice.
Bullying is easy; scare everybody. Diplomacy is much harder: get people to trust you. How is it that we continually lose sight of this?
Some of Carter's achievements...
- during a period of high inflation added 8 million jobs;
- civil service reform and appointed record numbers of women blacks and Hispanics in government jobs;
- decreased the budget deficit;
- stimulated oil production;
- expanded national parks system by millions of acres;
- established the Department of Education;
- enhanced Social Security system;
- Salt ll treaty;
- Camp David Accord;
- ratified Panama Canal treaties
Mr Carter exemplifies what it really means to be a practicing Christian politician. How differently he has lived his Faith, from those who claim to be Christians but wouldn't recognise agape love if they met it.
He has been on my mind this last week. It will be a sad day when he makes his jump to his next adventure. He has shown everyone how to live a full and productive life with strength, courage, and love.
I remember him as a good President. He did what he had to do to make sure that things were under control. That man could work. He certainly wasn't lazy. He put his all into it. Helping people was his thing. He is a sweet man and I Mrs. Carter is a sweet woman. I know how hard this must be on her. They've been together longer than I've been on this earth. Many prayers for him and his entire family, ❤
President Carter’s legacy will be the example he set after his presidency. He showed the world what a truly compassionate person looks like. He is a humble giant walking among average men. We are truly blessed to live at the same point in history as President Carter. We are the witnesses to his story.
Tell that to the Americans he pushed into poverty with his ridiculous economic actions

Carter was under rated. When he said we should strive for American cars to get an average of 35 MPG, he was laughed at. The oil industry and Detroit literally said "cars get 10mpg, and that's it, end of story". Carter put solar panels on the White House and Regan took them down. He was ethical and he tried to do the right thing.
A real patriot n honest man a kind human being, no bone spurs, Mr. Carter served his country God bless you sir.
I voted for the first time when i was pregnant with my fourth child for President Carter and so disappointed when he lost but i kept voting and working toward good for all. He has lived an exemplary and extraordinary life. I will never forget him because he got me voting!
Why were you disappointed? You like record inflation? High Gas, Long lines, terrible economy, hostages being taken?
He is a good man, but people equate that with him not being strong somehow. I still think Jimmy was ahead of his time. He wanted renewable energy, decency, world peace, and how you handle foreign policy strongly and without conflict.
@@wisconsinman3590 here we go yet again. Someone else who doesn't understand the economy. Smh
@@wisconsinman3590 what we got was Reagan. Ugh
@@t.h.8475 Double Ugh!
I think President Carter's longevity speaks for itself, mind body connection. His military service, honorable. As a president, no significant baggage or scandal, and no accusations of sexual improprieties. President Carter has conducted himself as a diplomat, and with decorum. He was true to his faith, taught Sunday School. President Carter was a humanitarian, establishing Habitat for Humanity, and even participated in the construction of these homes. Thank you, for being such a positive role model for our youth. May you and your family continue to be in peace.
Jimmy Carter is a GOOD man. I can't think of any other person that can compare to his goodness, kindness,
generosity, integrity, selflessness and most importantly honesty in everything he did.
Read Gary Sick’s book October Surprise. He was an Iranian specialist, Naval intel officer, Farsi speaker, worked on the Ford, Clinton, and Reagan White House. Covers meetings between Reagan officials and Iranian hostage takers.
The problem was he was unable to prove the meetings, so even if they happened, he could not prove them I believe. I think it happened too, but we won’t ever be able to definitely prove Reagan colluded with Iran in summer 1980.
This is a video about President Carter. None of those others. Especially not Trickle UP Ron.
Unless it covers how Reagan single-handedly killed the middle class? Then I might be interested.
A man that has love for humanity. President Jimmy Carter a living legend who will be for ever loved especially by the poor of all nationality. God bless his soul and life in all of its existence. ♥️🌍🇯🇲
No matter what you think of President Carte during Presidency he was not a liar, thief or a narcissist only concerned about himself and his own personal profit, unlike DJT. Carter brought honor, integrity and humility to the White House and for many years after!!! Cheers to Jimmy Carter and a life WELL lived!!!
he will always be cherished by the american people
Hopefully the rest of America will finally see the Truth + Integrity, personified by President Carter.
We need a president like Carter now. Hope he is resting and not paying attention to all going on now.
Well, he is a tad bit better than the clown we have now, but Carter was a terrible president. Hopefully we never have a Carter or Biden again.
What dignity and humility and a sense of humanity that he has shown, a fine example for an ex president.
Ronald Reagan: "Let them eat cake."
Jimmy Carter: "I will share my cake for them to eat."
It was Reagan who gave America prosperity while Carter was a failure. Sorry Charlie.
@@padraigwarren4182 History repeating itself now.
@@padraigwarren4182 Biden isn't even functional anymore. And before Obama made him his vice President, he was simply an unrespected party hack even the Democrats despised.
Reagan began the attack on the middle class and unionized workers. It's continued throughout the decades and the prosperity is gone for all but the top few percent.
I have always admired Mr Carter: An extremely principled statesman + patriot.
First President I voted for…proud of him and his decency and ethics. After his presidency he worked tirelessly for Habitat for Humanity. Thank you President Carter.
Godspeed to a wonderful man
He is a wonderful human being.❤
A great man who was hurt by the Arab oil embargo and Iran hostage situation. None of which was his fault. A good, decent man. Wish we had more like him. God bless and comfort him and family.
I always thought that Jimmy Carter got a bad rap. Just because he was a moral president, people viewed him as weak. To his credit, he took a "buck stops here" attitude to that disastrous rescue attempt in Iran, when almost all other recent presidents would have blamed the fiasco on the military leaders who were actually responsible. I think history will eventually remember him as one of the greatest presidents in American history.
He told the truth and kept the peace. He cared for people all over the world. We truly are blessed to have this wonderful human being! Thank you for all that you have done for the betterment of humanity President Jimmy Carter!❤
Truly inspiring person.
Jimmy Carter was so ahead of his time that a lot of people didn't understand him at the time. He wanted to fight climate change when most thought the problem didn't exist. He wanted to make human rights a top foreign policy priority when people thought that was unrealistic. Carter's politics are now mainstream in his party.
God bless you Jimmy. Thanks for all your services to the planet, people and humanity. ❤
Carter had the right analysis;
Continued US dependency of oil would lead to US military involvement in the middle-east.
And ever increasing consumption would destroy the environment.
Unfortunately Reagans message was more uplifting: The is plenty of oil. Consume away.
Fundamentally a decent man that lived his faith and did his level best for humanity. The whole World needs to live up more to his example and less to the disgusting morons that currently infest our political life. God bless Jimmy.
He was an awesome, caring, decent human being.
Yes he is.
He is amazing and honored
I prayed that he would not die during the Trump administration. Considering how Trump handled McCain's funeral I prayed that he would not still be in power to have any of his influence over President Carter's funeral. I don't know if this is appropriate to say here. I mean no disrespect to our 39th. But I felt deeply about this and I did pray to God over it. Mr. Carter is the epitome of decency.
You have done your Good & Great Mamma
proud, President Carter. You have never let up!
I was nine during the 1980 election, and I remember my parents repeatedly calling President Carter "that peanut farmer" ~ with swear words attached. My first bit of political consciousness was an internal recognition that they were out of bounds. I remember thinking, if my parents are wrong in their ungenerous attitude, maybe they're wrong about other things. It gave me space to think independently. I've always admired President Carter, even back then, I suppose! I think he will be hearing "Well done, my good and faithful servant. "🙏
Wrong? No, Carter was a bad president, his policies destroyed many families. His stagflation pushed many Americans into poverty. Luckily, Reagan reversed the trend of expanding poverty and actually shrunk poverty. I remember a Democrat saying "my party loves the poor", and thinking, yeah, that's why you're creating so many new poor people. Your parents were more sophisticated than you. LOL, I think you're still naive 50 years later!
He is a good man, God Bless.
