  • A very quick bridge change on my Telecaster that quickly (and unfortunately) turned into a set up video.

    I ended up getting the exact harbor freight Allen wrenches for this purpose. I bought a used 2008 standard Tele. Mine has the bridge style yours came with. I couldn’t get my action low enough for comfort without major fret buzz, so I got a professional setup thinking I was just doing it wrong, but it came back with the action set kind of high. I finally decided to try a shim I had laying around, I think it was the thinnest shim I had, 0.25. I “reverse shimmed” the neck, with the thicker part of the shim facing out. In just minutes I had my action nice and low with no buzzing. Highly recommend this solution if you still have trouble lowering your action. Mine feels and sounds great now.

    I couldn’t believe when I saw that ashtray bridge fit without any modifications. That’s awesome 👏 nice job

    Bridge looks like a proper tele bridge now.
    That pickguard however, just looks bad.
    A black pick guard is In order.
    If it were me, I would think hard about a set of fender 51 nocaster pickups, from the custom shop. Not real expensive, compared to say Ron Ellis, but a very good sounding set. A real standout from the fender cs.
    You don’t need 4 ways, and push knobs, when you have great tone to start with.
    As a bonus, if you wire only the bridge to tone, set your amp to the neck pickup, then use tone to set the bridge pickup .
    You will have 3 tones that are more than you will ever need.
    Provided you have a good tube amp also?
    What I am getting at, is that guitar, good pickups , and a tube amp.
    You can play a session. And have tone that will pass with producer and a sound engineer.
    8 different tones of meaaaahh however.
    Been at this guitar thing for over 40 years now.
    And learned a few things along the way.
    Just some things to consider.

    I can’t believe it. I sat through all that and you didn’t pluck ONE STRING either before or after. Does it not matter what it sounds like?

    Hi Robert, just ordered the same original vintage bridge and the compensated Gotoh brass saddles (to get a better tune). I have te same Telly, but in Pacific Peach color: i love her (and I nicknamed her Melissa, like the Allman Brothers Band tune 😁). The reverted control plate is a smart move, to use the volume like Jeff Beck. Great idea! Wonderful video! Cheers from Italy! 👍👍👍

      On your old bridge did the screws to adjust the string height land on top of the mounting screws? If so did the new bridge fix that problem?

    I was informed by a guitar tech that, a single string bridge is superior than the three piece saddles.

    • @sundaynightdrunk
      @sundaynightdrunk Před měsícem

      That's just one person's opinion. The three piece saddles were fine for a ton of really great players for half a century. Fender still sells the exact bridge that's on their higher-end American Teles, and it has the three brass saddles.

      @@sundaynightdrunk "with the 3 piece bridge you have 2 string's on one piece. with the 6 string bridge you have each string on it's individual saddle" . that's what that guitar tech said to me.

    • @sundaynightdrunk
      @sundaynightdrunk Před měsícem

      @@robertmartinez4174 Yeah of course, but there's more to it than that. Call it the mojo of the Telecaster. And you can properly intonate on a 3-saddle bridge.

      @@sundaynightdrunk guess that it's just a matter of preference.

    • @ralphclark
      @ralphclark Před 4 dny

      @@sundaynightdrunkonly if you get the Gotoh compensated saddles. Face it, the barrel saddles are a primitive, inferior solution. And stripping off a modern bridge to fit a three-saddle ashtray bridge is nothing more than cargo cultism. Just like paper-and-oil caps.

    I’m still having a hard time with the vintage bridge fitting like it did. Did it change the scale length at all or anything??

    Only 20 Subscribers! That's not fair; I'll make it 21. 😊
    With the Intonation thing, I heard someone say that Intonation like a knife. You'll cut yourself if it's "sharp" and your reaction will be to "pull back". So, it's sharp you move the saddle back. Or something like that 😅.

      If it’s flat move it forward ( flat forward) if it’s sharp move it back. Flat forward is my pneumonic device

      @aperezdeal Yep, little sayings like that work. Even something slightly silly like "My Ford has a Flat" 😂.
