    This case study goes more in-depth into the NPA Velocity Study of 2006 and proves the importance of the 20% of linear energy.

    I think the study is pretty straight-forward: If you want to throw 80-85 mph, get good shoulder-hip separation. If you want to throw 95-100 mph, you better add good linear drive to it, especially since it allows you to rotate later and increase separation.

      Well I mean. If you want to throw 90+ maybe sums it up better. Not everyone will every get close to 100mph. That either require genetic jackpots, or drugs.

      +Joe Bill That's true. I thought about that right after the post. I can't stand the "you can be Nolan Ryan, too!" lie I have seen from some personal pitching coaches. Of course, I also hate the "It's just genetics" excuse for bad coaching when athletes don't improve. The truth is somewhere in the middle.

      Jd 5252 It is a dangerous reality isn't it. It is a shame that the fitness industry can try to sell you dumb workout plans, and insane fitness goals for things that aren't completely achievable without drugs.
      Of course PRO sports will always try to hide the drug use, because it is better for business, but it is a sad reality.

    So it would be safe to say that if the delta between "on the knees" and full pitching motion is much less than 20%, that your linear movement is inefficient, and if it's greater than 20% then your rotational is more inefficienct?

    I’m kinda confused does this mean if you throw 80 from your knees you can potentially throw 100 if you do everything right with lower half and linear move. So if you throw 80 from knees and 90 from mound that means you have a bad linear move and energy right?

    • @uhhcoolstory5627
      @uhhcoolstory5627 Před 3 lety

      It just means your upper half is more efficient. But technically sure

    I would of thought you can throw at least 90

  • @jbrascher112
    @jbrascher112 Před 8 lety

    I think the NPA also missed the fact that when the players were put on their knees their hips were open to the target as well. Hip rotation needs to be created through a linear drive. Just a sidenote.

    • @uhhcoolstory5627
      @uhhcoolstory5627 Před 3 lety

      That’s why their on their knees… so they didn’t have a linear move

  • @tootallforbaseball

    Great demonstration. When you did the second pitch at 73, was your back foot pointing to the target, or was it still parallel to the rubber?

    Even if you concede this point you still win the argument. They can say only 20% of your velo is legs. Which is great. 100MPH no legs thats only 80. The gap between the MLB guys and us high schoolers throwing 85 is that 15% we aren't using! The value is in the Gap. Baseball is a winner take all game. The payout is pyramidical. If you make any upward movement you make a huge jump in reward. The law of diminishing returns governs that we must use our legs to get the last 20% of our bodies otherwise we won't beat the other guys who are using their legs.

    My son is a 16 catcher throwing 1.98 pop time. Do you believe in a Throwing velocity programs using a series of weighted balls from 2 pounds, down to 2 ounces. I'm a fan of the weight training, arm care, shoulder strengthening, scapular stabilization, triple extension exercises , power clean , Core strengthening activities, flexibility, hip shoulder separation etc.......! The weighted ball throwing program makes me a bit nervous for shoulder and elbow injuries! What is your opinion in this topic.?

      Michael Stokes you're changi the subject. I put a comment as a joke, because it's something I say "hit with logic". The point of discussion is on your claim that Brent's training methods are injurious.
