- I really like Tesoro machines and there will always be a place for them in my metal detecting. Let us not underestimate the performance of the slightly older analog metal detectors because they're still very capable.

I've had my original Bandido since the early 90s, I love that thing. Once you learn them, they are awesome detectors. I managed to get it into the factory for a tune-up before they closed the doors, so I hope it lasts my lifetime. I've got a bunch of detectors, but I have more hours on the Tesoros. I also like my Troy X5, it's kind of a Tesoro on steroids, but it's pretty finicky on GB.
I purchased 2, used Tesoros this past week. Looking forward to using some old school detectors.

I have had a Silver uMax for 20+ years. Just got back into the hobby after a long hiatus. Purchased a Minelab Nox 900. Tesoros are still worth their weight in gold.

It's a better than most if adjusted right I have the tejon with the 8 1/2 round wide-scan coil on it to get 3-4 more inches than the stock if you can get this coil over places that you have already hunted and find what you missed the first time
Ask around and see if you can get the phone number for Tom dankowski he can tune it up and make it a good unit to use All the time

in 1987 I purchase a Tesoro Golden Sabre. That replace and old Jetco detector that I got back in 1971. With that Golden Sabre I could and did out hunt all those detectorists with the new digital detectors with meters and screens and coffee makers and all the bells and whistles. Oh, and no stupid pin pointer. Any detectorist worth his or her salt can pin point a target with the detector coil to a high level of accuracy. Maybe because I have been a musician for over 60 years I could hear all the little nuances of sound that my detector makes and through that, I could ascertain depth, material and many time shape of the target. If you all can afford it, pick up a detector like the gentleman in this video or a Golden Sabre and try them out. Eliminate all the distractions between you and the target.

Tejon user here. Singing the praises of a model of a machine no longer commercially available is somewhat honest on the net because I'm guessing that Tesoro isn't sponsoring you, hey?
You can't beat those Tesoro's when it comes to discriminating out trash and still being able to find silver. They have great separation also. That other machine you got looks like a Cibola. You can supertune one of those to find a quarter down a foot deep. Just jack the sensitivity all the way up and the threshold all the way up. Same on the Outlaw after you ground balance it. Wish Tesoro hadn't gone out of business in 2018, but I'll just keep using mine until they wear our or I wear out which ever one comes first. lol.

Shame that Jack's two boys didn't keep the brand alive. Cut my teeth on the Silver Sabre, ended up doing a six term with Tejon. Bloody good macHines. Compadre on stoney foreshores is a proper little gem too.
One of the brothers sold out and two of their engineers quit and that is what folded the company whites went out a little more than one year ago and Garrett bought them
Im actually thinking about buying a Tesoro again as well. Im torn between a Bandido umax and a Vaquero here in the US. Glad im not the only one who thinks they still have merit.
Both are great. If getting a bandido get the bandido 2 umax or the modern remake version which is the outlaw. Outlaw may be easier to find and cheaper since it's not 30 years old by now.
Vaquero can get super deep. Next to my tejon it's my deepest tesoro. Maybe tied with my cobola that I modded with GB before I got my vaquero since with the mod they are close to the same.
@@2010stoof hey thanks!! I actually found a demo Vaquero for 325!! I havent gotten it out much but my first good finds were a 1700s coin and a pristine railroad lock from 1903. Im liking it for sure!

I am back on again and have just purchased a Laser B2
These machines are not only simple to use but also they love small silver targets
I am really holding off buying a digital machine because surely although the digital machine tries to identify it you probably still dig anyway

Looking at the Deeptek Vista X - pretty close to the Tesoro Outlaw, and still available new in US. Hoping to have fun with it like you and the Tesoros. Haven't used a detector since my Whites Eagle Spectrum died. Thinking about a Nokta Legend to go with it - want to try beach detecting also.
Awesome, yes I have the Vista X, need to use it more but it's a capable machine, the Nokta works very well for me on the Thames foreshore so I'm sure you'll do well with it on the beach good luck 👍🏻
I have many tesoros. Only now have digital machines gotten to the recovery speed of these analog detectors lol.
I think I have 11 of them compadre 6 and 8, Cutlass umax 12khz(not cutlass2 umax 10khz), 2x Mojave, bandido 2 umax, outlaw, cobola I modded with GB, vaquero, DeLeon, tejon lol.
Love the double beep on the coins.
Also only the bandido and the Cutlass and tejon with pitch adjustment can I get the nice high tone beep. But I've gotten good with the lower tones.
There's so much info in that beep. But there's a nice smack for coins and rings. Dirty beep for trash. Bottle caps still get me lol. That black one you have has a higher pitch not quite as high as the older ones but I like that better.
But I totally agree you can knock out most junk on disc and just run through and get all nickels and up.
Go back later with the nicer digitals. I just grabbed a nokta legend but haven't taken it out. But I have the makro racer2 and the nokta fors relic which the relic really punches deeeeep.
Thanks for the video. Love watching tesoro videos especially showing the fun you can have with them. I grab them alot. I'm sure I will continue to even after the initial obsession with the legend slows like it did with my other digital ones. They're great but tesoro is just easy. No complicated menus lol. Just turn on, GB if on the detector and just go.
Funny but I grab the compadre all the time. As it's great for new people. One knob, simple explanation of the disc knob and voila they're detecting.
That's awesome that you have so many, they're really fun to use, to be honest I don't see a huge benefit using the Legend, you can't beat the discrimination circuit of a good analog machine
@@paulwarrenmetaldetecting also I like your idea of using the tesoro to disc out foil down and run the lot then go back later with either a digital machine or maybe my tejon with dial disc to get the lower conductors. But those bottle caps get me every time haha
The dual disc is fun but that tejon is a hot machine lol. Digging stuff way past the 1 ft mark when it's run too hot.
i used the toltec 100 for years and me and my mate Danny used to buy a new machine every time one came out we had some fantastic finds if they had kept up with changing technology i am sure they would have been among the leading producers now i think the only one i never used was the silver sabre i still have the tejon which i got a couple of years ago,,, have subbed you to see how you get A.T.B ,,,Pat

Hello, although these devices are old, they have a very good metal separation ability, so why is the iron filter shown as an afterthought in modern detectors? I started to think that the new technology cannot produce a benefit for us. If the depth and discrimination ability is so high even in old detectors, what benefit does the new technology provide us?
I agree with everything you've said 100%, the new machines are for ease of use so anyone can get into the hobby with minimal understanding on how to operate a metal detector. Clever marketing has convinced people that they using the best available, that's just not the case
@@paulwarrenmetaldetectingyou are right, the detector should be on and searching. Today's detectors have been converted into mobile phones. In the past, mobile phones only had the option to talk and send messages, which is their function. Nowadays, you can't imagine if they don't have access to social networks and games. fast internet... it's the same with modern detectors, there are a thousand stupid settings that most searchers don't know what they are for. so lots of fake tests on youtbe. how they go deeper than simple machines. had the experience that Deus light vs Teknetics eurotek pro, what Deus found for me, Eurotek pro also found for me (simple machine). Tesoro simple machines find everything just like today's expensive machines. I am a fan of White's machines, but both Tesoro and White's share the same fate.
I started out with the original Tesoro Eldorado back around 1987. Tesoros were known for great discrimination and being a two-filter circuitry design gave them fast target recovery speed which made them excel in trashy areas where most good finds are found. Back then general consensus was to get more depth out of a metal detector 4 filter circuitry designs may go deeper but target recovery speed would be slower...good for depth but not as good hunting trashy areas. Thru the years detectorists kept wanting more depth so more gain was built into circuitry which gave depth but made them noisy and erratic. I've always heard there is a tradeoff with raw depth versus smooth solid discrimination. I have also read many times that most good metal detector finds are made from surface to around 6-7" of depth but detectorists keep wanting more overall depth. There are depth exceptions when it comes to beach surf hunting or fill dirt brought in and other things out of our control.
Still great detectors, but you have to educate your ears to eliminate trash and know what good targets sound like. I still have two.

I received a Tesoro Cibola free from someone. I am a complete noob so I don't know where it stands compared to other machines.
The Cibola is a great machine operating at just over 14KHZ it's rather sharp on all targets of all sizes, get out there and start swinging, I think you'll be surprised at it's performance

Hi Don the Rapier isn't really a deep machine, I don't use it in the fields so I can't say how deep it will go on hammered coins

To be honest I can't see no difference between my etrac and my vaquero etrac shines on salt beaches other than that there's nothing in it
There's a lot of smoke and mirrors with the digital machines, metal detecting made easy, nothing more

Years ago, a friend had one of the first digital Whites, cant recall the name. He was really jazzed about the thing. I took him to a good spot I had and he raced over it looking at the screen, finding only some Lincolns. I went over the same spot with my Bandido and found a couple IH, a Merc and V nickle. He went off in a huff. 🤣
