  • In this video we are repairing an Issue 2 48k with bad video and a broken keyboard. We will also explore some of the modifications that have been made to the board.
Correction at 3:00, 4 bits grouped together is called Nibble.

Thank you for the RAM explainer. I know nothing about this (and computer repair in general) and it really helped to see how memory is structured in a very clear and easy to understand way. I feel your frustration with solder joints not clearing, I have damaged a few by working past my concentration , not taking a break and working on something else. A moogun sorted a lot of that out for me.

I always thought 4 bits were called a nibble, 2 bytes were known as a word?

Well spotted, I misspoke, a word is whatever amount of bits a computer normally works with, so my statement is only true for a 4-bit computer. I'll add a caption

WD40 is great for removing old glue. Spray it on, leave it a while then wipe it off. 👍🏽

Yep I've repaired quite a few 48K speccies... WD40 is an excellent way to remove the glue, then clean up with some isopropyl alcohol afterward. It's just a pity it stinks!

Saved one of my ZX81s that had a load of rock hard glue residue after pulling the old keyboard membrane off!
