    I love the chaotic DIY style of this video! Loved seeing all the pens these inserts could work with.
    For the zebra, i wonder if you could just file down the end of the refill a little to make it fit?
    Very fun video though!

    I was hoping there was a way to put a refill into the write in the rain pokka pen. Thanks for mangling yours so I didn’t have to mangle mine! A nice extension to this video would be to include pens that work with the fisher Parker-style refill (modified if necessary).

    Hi Dominic! Please note that you do not need to modify the insert with electrician tape for Fenix T6! The little black piece of plastic that sits on the top of the original Schmidt insert is removable and will fit perfectly onto the Fisher space pen refill.
    Thank you for this video. I bought Fenix T6 but was a bit disappointed with its original ink. I did not like the black color and while writing, the pen often skipped due to an improper continuous flow of ink. I did not think about fisher universal refill. Now thanks to your idea, I upgraded my T6 and it works perfectly!

    I finally got around to getting one of these universal refills, and it does fit into a Zebra T3 but you need to widen the hole in the nosecap (I just used the reamer on my SAK) as the seam between the nib and the refill body is closer to the tip than the standard Zebra D1 refill

  • @s.h.v.c2865
    @s.h.v.c2865 Před rokem +1

    A while ago I thought about putting one of these universal refills into my Zebra T3 mini pen to make a micro space pen that clicks. Theoretically the D1 length would fit, but apparently not all D1 lengths are the same diameter between manufacturers. Would you be able you test it if you have a Zebra T3? Other mini pens like the Ohto Minimo and Pilot Birdy also use a D1 insert, as well as the Kaweco Sport pen. There's not much info online about these Fisher inserts so I really appreciate you doing this video. Kinda disappointed it didn't fit into the Skilcraft Aviator B3, that surprised me, it would've made it extra avaiator=y to have a space pen cartridge.

    Dang it! I absolutely love my B3 Aviator and have been carrying it everyday for I think like 8 years. It's got a great black and brass camo style patina on it now from the years of wear. I use it everyday as my construction work writing utensil marking wood filling out work orders and it works so well. It's twist action even has a satisfying smooth turn to lock that reminds me of using my Victorinox SAKs. F I was so hoping that the Fishers D1 refill would work in it. Honestly though I've been using standard D1 refills for years and haven't had them fail to write in any condition. I will admit I've never needed to write underwater or in space yet lol.

    The thicker part of the refill in the dial side click is just a holder so it fits in the pen. Pull the insert out. Should’ve known that before you made the video, though, eh?

      Some companies also call them Solataire cartridges. You can get them from a lot of different manufacturers, including Lamy and Pelikan. I even bought some from Office Depot that they marketed under a generic house brand but were marked "Made in Switzerland." The ones that Zebra makes in Japan are ever so slightly thinner than any other brand I've seen, and probably would fit the adapter from the Big Idea Design Dual Side Click Mini that Max had trouble getting the shortened Fischer cartridge to slide into.

      Got a hold of a "cheap clicker disposable pen that had a polyurethane barrel" with the BIC logo from a medical clinic.
      Project Fisher PR4 refill modifications had done. Pulled the plunger and tip cap from the 3/8 inch diameter barrel off. Now measured the internal dimensional lengths of the two easily removable OEM hardware, plus the PR4 cartridge collectively. The math was measuring the trio pieces to it's combined length. The PR4 was 5/8 inch too short for the plunger mechanism activation. Reduced the barrel with a pair of industrial grade snipers by 5/8 inches.
      Taken the internal lengths between the tip cap and the plunger stop from the barrel and used an old analog dipole antenna hardware (2) pieces to fill the spaces 360 degree to prevent the cartridge from unneeded shifting around inside. The PR4 fits like a match made in heaven into the smaller pole, follow by it's intended primary pole to slack up the void. The spacing of the poles and barrel had fitted without any unnecessary slacks. The weight of the pen felt more stout for this 4 1/2 inch modified pen. The clicker action with it's inside cap spring hardware seems very typical, followed with a slight heavy firmness. The pen had wrote very confidently on paper without any issues. My luck to have this free pen to work with as a project.

    Is it true a pressurized pen can't be taken on airplane due to possibility of exploding?

    • @brettclark8020
      @brettclark8020 Před rokem +3

      No, that's not true. I've traveled with them for decades with no problems. They (the Fisher ones) are also certified by NASA for use on manned spacecraft at any cabin pressure, so the 3psi drop in pressure in a commercial aircraft certainly isn't going to be a problem.

    • @CrowManyClouds
      @CrowManyClouds Před rokem +1

      At the absolute worst it will just leak. I can't see there even being the slightest risk of one exploding.
      (Remember, it isn't sealed pressure vessel it's designed to let the ink out in a controlled way. Even if a drop in pressure could affect it, it would just ooze ink past the ball point until the pressure equalized.)

  • @jwarehouse1
