There are two types of people watching this: the ones that have already read the books but are starved for content, and their friends that got sent this video.
I started the entire Cosmere in May 2022, and now I'm at 3/4 of Rythm of War, the last book I have left. It's just a masterpiece.
You finished the mistborn era 2 before ROW? I started at the same time and finished the cosmere in time to start tress when it came out
Yes, I finished Era 2 earlier, spoilers don't bother me and I like to read the full series... in series :)
@@majkel1748they only get better when you go again
Same but finished 2 months ago
same but i still gotta read elantris (current)(and the other books in the same world), whitesand, all 4 secret projects, and all the novellas except secret history.
I'll never forget the night I sat down and cracked open The Way of Kings for the first time...I had no idea how amazing of a journey I was about to set off on!
man I just got my copy 20minutes ago, will start into it after this. I am so hyped for this!
Wanting to read the Stormlight Archive. But, at my age, 84, I'll probably not be around for the series end. But, I do intend to read whatever I can and hope for the best.
"Honor is dead, but I'll see what i can do" is one of the hardest lines i have ever read. The pay off at the ends of these books are amazing and the only thing thats made me feel that way was watching Gandalf lead the Rhohirim down the slopes at the battle of Helm's deep for the first time. After only reading the stormlight archive, I've been to dragonsteele 2023, and now want to read the rest of his books. Well done Brandy Sandy
For me, "I'm the monster who will save this wolrd" is better. It's less glorious, but perfectly shows Taravangian mindset. Similar to Dalinars "For the bridgemen" while he gave his shardblade to Sadeas.
@@OP-dm4ce"For the Bridgemen" always reminded me of "You bow to no one" from LOTR. Tear up every time.
I think more short-form content with your usual video quality like this can go a long way
I'm enjoying making these quicker videos, so I'll definitely keep making some in this same style! :)
I started Mistborn this month and I’m loving it. Really really engaging story. I’m finishing that series and finishing off the 4 Dune books I have left before tackling Stormlight in 2024!
OK... I'm sold! (if I wasn't already). A very well made video. Short, crisp, and to the point. The artwork and editing add to it substantially. Well done!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!!
I love Stormlight Archive more than any other Sanderson series besides Alcatraz(reading that with my kids and it’s completely different but so worth it!)
I recently got Tress, but my son (10 yo) won't let me get to it unless I do all 5 Alcatraz books first!
I love Mistborn too!
I cried my eyes out during The Way of Kings, Sanderson is an amazing author!
@@michaelxz1305guys can cry lol.
I cried at the end of hero of ages
I didn’t cry until RoW, and then I cried 5 separate times hahaha
@@michaelxz1305 "I'm a guy"...LOL....r u sure???
I’m currently rereading the series. I’m like four chapters into book 1 and already I’m blown away by the sheer amount of foreshadowing, easter eggs, and straight up spoilers that you completely miss the first time you read it.
Read it weeks ago and still can’t stop thinking about. Absolutely my favourite all-time fantasy series. Great video!
It's so good! Glad you enjoyed it!
I just finished Oathbringer, and I’m making my way through Dawnshard. Absolutely blown away by this incredible series!
Awesome video Jay! I love the Stormlight Archives! More content like this recommending other series would be awesome!!
Thanks for watching! I'll definitely make some recommendation videos in the same style :)
I'm starting the Stormlight Archive tonight! Looking forward to it. Thanks for the recommendation 👍 To start the year I read the first 3 books in the Red Rising saga. To end my year I'm reading the remaining books in that series. In between I'm reading the Stormlight Archive. This video was really helpful, thanks!
How was Red rising?
@@clickonmyprofile380 very good. I'll be re-reading then soon.
Definitely felt the “unlike other authors” when talking about communication with fans and completing the series
The Stormlight archive is the first epic fantasy book series I read and I finished WOK last year. I was absolutely astonished at the amazing plot and story Brandon Sanderson had created! Its been a long while but I will be getting back into my love of reading with Words of Radiance today after I watch your In-depth summary of WOK to catch up.
Awesome!! Words of Radiance is even better than book 1 in my opinion, so i hope you enjoy it! I definitely need to make an in-depth summary for WOR soon
It’s ironic you posted this video today, I am half way through Way of Kings right now and I am sucked in now.
Ok what the actual hell. This series sounds like lord of the mysteries if it was made in America. If anyone here wants more stuff like the stormlight archives I 1000% recommend lord of the mysteries. The premise is almost the same as this I think, and whatever this guy said can also be translated over to lord of the mysteries. But I will definitely be reading this after I finish lord of the mysteries. It sounds cool af.
Great video. Felt like I needed this push.
I’m about done with TWoK, and I can’t get enough of it. I’m binging at least three chapters a day and each time I’m super excited for what happens next. Favorite characters are Kaladan and Shallan.
Trying to catch up all I have missed over the years and just got to Way of Kings. Can't stop thinking about it and can't wait to get to the next book.
No need to be persuaded anymore. I am nearing the end of Words of Radiance and OMG I can barely handle how great this is.
I always have a hard time describing The Stormlight Archive because there is just so damn much going on :D I started reading it in June and I'm already on the Rhythm of War and I'm having a great time :D
2:17 I'm sold!
started reading the way of the kings. i read mistborn many winters back, and thought the mind is freed enough for another sanderson saga to binge into.
I love the storm light archive and will like to read something similar while waiting for the next book
I just picked up the 5 set hardcover on Amazon while they’re on sale for $95. Thanks for the review. I needed a new set
Awesome! Hope you enjoy!
@@CapturedInWords thank you. And I goofed. 4 book set 👍🏼
Brandon Sanderson has become one of my favorite authors from what I’ve read of his cosmere so far. And that’s a tough thing to do is get in my “recommend” list, I’m very picky on what authors I add to that list. Currently there are only three. Brandon Sanderson, Tolkien, and David weber. Each have books set in worlds that feel fully fleshed out and believable
I’m in the first quarter of Oathbringer and I already want to go back and reread books 1 + 2. They completely blew me away. Mist born is next after storm light.
I've never been so excited to go and read a new series!
Reading the first book now! Love it!❤
Glad you're enjoying it!!
Still waitng for that book 2 summary my friend.
Having read the books, will send this to people that are interested. Very well done video.
After reading The Way of Kings I decided to go through the Cosmere in your recommended reading order and mannnnnn I could not be happier that I did. Thanks.
I'm halfway through Words of Radiance. I bought the books (including the 2 novellas) based on your recommendation and I've been thrilled to read this series. I've never read a series that has a magic system quite like Stormlight Archive. My girlfriend and I also played the board game based on Stormlight Archive; I highly recommend it!
Okey okey, i will read way of kings again if thats what the universe wants.
I started reading The Way of Kings and neglected much my work until I finished the book. I will be waiting for holidays for the rest of the books. I am so happy to have found a good fantasy series again.
I bought the Way of kings (parts 1 and 2 as they're two separate books where I got them) two weeks ago for my vacation and am currently about 250 pages in. Yesterday, I rewatched your recommendation video on the series for some reason...
And then today I see this? Damnation, stormfather himself couldn't think of a crazier coincidence
I plan to read it, and I'm looking forward to it. Never read a fantasy book before until this year. (I mostly read thrillers, mystery, and suspense) Started with Warbreaker and I liked it. Currently reading The Final Empire at the moment.
You're in for a treat! I will warn that the beginning of the first book in this series is slow to build up if you're not used to world building. Just hang on and don't get too stuck on any terms you don't understand yet, he'll being back anything that's important 😊
@@marenkendall7413 You're saying Way of Kings is slow? Damn, and it's 1000 pages is intimidating to me. Oh boy, that is why is stick with mystery and thrillers. If it's not a page-turner it's going to be hard for me to get through it.
I'm a horror and thriller reader myself and I personally didn't like it at all. Usually the only fantasy that can keep my attention like horror and thriller does is stuff that falls into the grimdark category. I like some classic sword and sorcery like Conan, Elric, Kane and Fafhrd as well.
@@nightmarishcompositions4536 Have you read "The Blade Itself" by Joe Abercrombie? I hear that is Grimdark. That is also on my to-read list.
I got introduced to Brandon Sanderson through mistborn and am now onto the wax and wayne series. After this 5 books I definitely going to check out the stormlight archives
I read it once and listened to it two more times. I can’t wait for book 5!
"Szeth son son Vallano, Truthless of Shinovar, wore white on the day he was to kill a king" such a hard open
Truly an iconic opening!
I never enjoyed reading. I hardly read books by the time I was 22, then I discovered this series, and for the first time ever I was hooked. I didn't know I enjoyed fantasy. These books opened a whole new world for me.
Finished RoW today and it is SO good, read Book 5’s prologue, also super worried about Hoid due to the final epilogue
My city library just brought Stormlight Archives so i am here❤
I just finished the way of kings. What a ride. Onward you the next!
Absolutely perfect
I'm sooooooo pumped for the knights of wind and truth
Same here!
Im in the hero of ages already (first time into the comere) but i cant wait to get into the massive stormlight😭
The prologue to The Way of Kings gave me a braingasm
Read it (and listened)... multiple times. Except for the latest which is only once. I'll definitely be doing a reread of that before book 5 comes out.
I loved the first 2, the 2nd was at the panicle of fantasy. However the 3rd left me cold and I’m afraid to say I quit halfway through book 4. Great review though and the first 2 were so good I don’t regret reading any of them.
I loved yoir short summary, it really helped decide if it's for me or not. But i hesitate to start a book series that isn't published entirely - like the name of the wind, to just say one example leaves an aching heart with it's unfinished 3rd book.
Almost done with Oathbringer! I was so glad to find a series that gave me the same feelings as the King Killer Chronicles. Gotta say tho Brandon Sanderson is way higher on my respected chart than Patrick Rothfuss 😶
I just finished Defiant, book 7 of the Skyward Series. Brandon Sanderson's world building and character progression are in the Mount Rushmore of Fantasy writers. I'll put him right next to Pitticus Lore in my honest opinion.
These new short videos are fun!
I'm enjoying making these quicker videos! Definitely going to make many more in a similar style :)
Another fantastic video!!! Thank you!
Happy you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching :)
I'm not much of a reader. But I've listened to the series twice while working. Both times were great. I might listen to the first 4 again in time for 5 to come out.
Consider me sold!
Quote from someone else in your comments: I’m a simple man, I see SA, I click
I have read The Way of Kings only and is a very good book,I believe The Stormlight Archive is the best work by Brandon Sanderson
Such a good book! And Words of Radiance is even better in my opinion!
@CapturedInWords It's on the list of books I want to read.
Probably my favorite author 10/10 would kiss
am I the only one who looked at Roshar the first time and said: why is it a moebius strip? So that when he 'revealed' that the cities and everything else were symmetrical, it was a bit of a yawn.
I'm considering reading Sanderson's works. While I can handle complex themes, English isn't my native language, so I prefer something with straightforward language. Sanderson seems like a good choice. Should I begin with Mistborn or the Stormlight Archive?
Probably Mistborn. Less of a commitment and in many ways it's just as good
You can read Sanderson in your native language. But if you want to read in english I'd say you can read any of his books. The way he writes is simple enough to be understood by any. So wich book of his you pick is a matter of taste and how much information you can carry. The Mistborn saga is still complex, but in comparison to Stormlight Archive is a child's game
Will you ever be doing a summary for the rest of Stormlight?
Your first summary was excellent and I think we'll need them between the books, as I have a hard time remembering details between books.
Michael Shannon as Daliar!
I disregarded a lot of the lists and went straight into Way Of Kings. What should I read next? I’m eager to breeze straight through the serious, but am afraid I will miss something. Recommendations?
In before Sando finishes A Song of Ice & Fire. Just brought Mistborn, off of your recommendation, looking forward to it 😀
Just finding this.. looking for a series to have me LONG term hooked that’s not surface deep and I can be lost in. This seems like it!
I'm on book 2, it's great.
If you don't mind, you could recommend Mistborn next.
I am back here after Sando announced Stormlight Archive Book 5: Wind and Truth.
So excited for book 5!
Do I have to read the other books to start this one or can I just jump in?
I just finished Mistborn Trilogy. I think I'm going to dive into some of his YA and then tackle this series in 2024
Sounds great! I hope you enjoyed Mistborn!
Isn't Mistborn YA?
No it isn't
wish there was more books about Kaladin now !
I tried Elantris and I don’t know if Sanderson is just not my taste, but so far I’m really not engaging with the Cosmere yet. I’d love be proven wrong
Try Mistborn. It's much better.
@@Kat-gp6gjits more of a preference but I read mistborn first and read the whole series minus the final era 2 book and then read elantris and I felt that elantris was more for me
I would like to read the series but many reading orders out there recommend to do so after Mistborn trilogy and Warbreaker, correct?
I am curious to dive into Warbreaker, but I don't think I will be continuing with Mistborn after book 1
These other two are not quite the same level of commitment so they are often good starting points. I love Mistborn but if it isn't your flavor than Warbreaker is very different and would probably be the best next step.
Why not continuing with Mistborn?
@@ernestorodriguez5117 wasn't fond about the love story between Vin-Elend, and I heard that their relationship turns into a love-triangle with a third party.
I could say that it was the flavour of YA that lingered around the story, which I don't usually like
@@alexbigday1587
I understand. But is not all true. In the second book is where the third one appears and is not a love triangle in the way common love triangles are (you have to read it to get what I mean). And I have to agree that the YA element in his books are not for everyone (because he don't know how to write it imo). But in the Mistborn series it decays with every book. Edit: and also, the romance between Vin and Elend is not so childish in the other two books as in the first one
You have the books already or only the first one?
@@ernestorodriguez5117 thank you for the upgrade, I wasn't aware that the YA aura kind of decays as the trilogy progresses, that notion totally appeals to me.
And No, I still don't own all the books, I wanted to tiptoe into the Cosmere and, if it turned out to be my cup of tea, I would by more of them. It is also a psychological thing: if I see a stack of 3 big boys standing in my shelf, I might feel overwhelmed and risk to burn out.
You need to read Doors of Stone
I enjoyed all of the cosmere, but the Stormlight Archive books, in my opinion, stand head and shoulders above the rest.
I 100% agree! Stormlight is his best series
I’m sorry if this is a silly question but my 6 year old son just finished the Harry Potter series and loved it. Now we’re looking for something else to listen to.
Is this series too much for a 6 year old?
Do you have any recommendations? Thanks.
No worries, that's a great question! Hmmm I think if I read this as a 6 year old it would be hard to keep track of everything. There's a lot of stuff going on and a lot of deep philosophical themes. The violent might be a bit much as well, as there's times characters are fighting this race called the Parshendi and are covered in their blood. Also there's characters that go through a lot of trauma. I wouldn't say it's as violent as most adult fantasy, but definitely more violent then Harry Potter and other middle-grade and young adult stuff.
But it depends on the maturity level of the kid and how complex of a reader he is, because maybe he will love it. There's a lot of great morals and stuff within the book, and some truly honorable and heroic protagonists. If you do listen to it, I highly recommend the Graphic Audio versions. These are different then the ordinary audio books, in that it has a full cast of characters with sound effects and a musical score and everything. It's really well done and super immersive.
I'd also recommend these books for him:
-Alcatraz VS The Evil Librarians by Brandon Sanderson is a really fun series, and one I think is enjoyable for adults too. Great audio books!
-The Reckoners by Brandon Sanderson and the Skyward books are also great YA series that he could read before starting more advanced Sanderson books
-Percy Jackson
-The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix (book 1 is called Sabriel. This is still one of my fav series and has great audiobooks)
-Lloyd Alexander's The Chronicles of Prydain are likely appropriate for that age, and have enough depth for older readers or even adults.
-His Dark Materials
-The Dragonlance books
-Redwall! Great series, excellent themes, and a fun way to try different accents and voices.
-A Wizard of Earthsea! The Earthsea books are classics, and some real quality fantasy to introduce at a young age.
-Half a King by Joe Abercrombie is his series intended for ages 14+ but I think your son would do good with it. Abercrombie is an incredible writer. Just maybe don't introduce your kid to his First Law books because they are VERY graphic lol.
All the characters in Stormlight Archieve is so fk good.
It's good recommendation but I wish you had recommendations for self publishers too 😢
Oh that's so true! I know that it's hard to find good self-published because a lot aren't well-written, but there are some really good ones out there that get overlooked because of all the poorly-written ones. I really wish that more people would support self-published works and recommend them to make them more popular.
Very true I also try finding some new authors out there just to get a new taste of stories.
Adoooonalsium
Very well done!
Thank you! Cheers!
loved the vid. just curious, do you do youtube full time?
Yes I do :)
Hmmm, sounds good. I'm currently wading through Nemesis the Warlock, then time to add to my wishlist 😆
The spren/shardblade really remind me of zanpakuto from bleach.
So..... which book should I start first? 😅
The Way of Kings is book 1! 😄
@@CapturedInWords Omg! It's over 1000 pages. 😱😭
They're amazing books.
Is that the music from the Blue Room in the Persona games?
I will be reading the Stormlight Archive, definitely!
…
…
…again.
I still need to read these 😅
Ok, you convinced me!
Wooo!
Guys, I'm going to start malazan or stormlight archive next year, can't do both, where should I start?
Is the way of kings one book spilt into two?
Nope just one book
Dang it, I didn't want to commit to a long series. Now I guess I have to.
I have read the whole series 5 times now. Whether I will read the back 5, very much hinges upon how he wraps up the fifth book.
Wow 5 times is a lot! I'm just making my through a second read through now
I am taking a long time to read Way of Kings. Everytime I hit Shallan, I want to scream. I just finished one of her chapter and ugh!
Still I'm half way through and am on a Kaladin chapter. So, there's that. (Seriously, if Shallan wasn't in it, I'd be fine with all the books by now).
Fwiw, I too disliked Shallan at first, but she grew on me. Her character grows too.
@@VeganCheeseburger I hope so!
I hear a lot of hype around Stormrlight and Lightbringer by Brent Weeks but I just end up hating them every time I try to read them. I don't get the hype or praise for either series at all.
From what I hear his cosmere universe all seem to be interconnected so is there a series or more than one series that leads into this series and that you feel needs to be read before starting this series for context or for greater understanding? Thank You 😊
The way of Kings is still pretty standalone but the more you get into the series the bigger the crossovers witch other series become. If you want to start the cosmere I would either recommend Warbreaker, a standalone novel, or the Mistborn-Trilogy. Also this channel has upload a cosmere readingorder not to long ago I believe
