Kelsierâs scars still need work. They need to be a lot more vertical than horizontal as they come from reaching in past sharp edges to grab an object then withdrawing past those same sharp edges again. The only way they would be horizontal is if he were rotating his arm while exposed to sharp edges, though this may be possible at times the vast majority of the scars should be down the length of the forearm. Think of it as plunging your arm down a monsters throat to get to a treasure, you have to reach past those razor sharp teeth with very little clearance available and youâll catch on them going both in and out.
Agreed, I was saying this same thing
They're also described as being white.
And a lot more of them. It's a central feature of his character and should be obvious.
And the author said they crossed over each other.
Yup. Layers and layers of daily reaching down the monster's throat over and over.
Watching the Shallan drawing, yelling at the screen "safe hand"! "Safe hand"!

Exactly
Right! I got so anxious seeing it unglovedđ„Č
I know! She would have been mortified! Especially since he's drawing early WoK Shallan

I like that he gave you feedback and then you went ahead and fixed your paintings. This is exactly the kind of video your fans were asking for when you did your "re-inventing the channel" stream a few weeks back.
did he cry again?
Kelsier got his scars from repeatedly reaching into small holes lined with sharp crystals. The scars should probably run the length of his arms, not crosswise.
In Fortnite they go crosswise
They should be going every which way, just small lines not long slashes
@@reubenoakley5887waitâŠwhat?
@@m4sherman926 Kelsier is in Fortnite. He's my favorite skin
I think you would try and twist your arm, making the scars run in curved patterns.
TenSoon giving the best hugs straight up killed me...of course he gives the best hugs, he literally absorbs people's flesh and steals their bones
It's funny how cheerful Brandon Sanderson is. Most of his books sound serious and a bit dystopian, but he himself is such a cheerful and kind man.
They always have a deep message of hope, though.
I recommend his youtube channel! He seems really nice and is a total geek X3 He also gives weekly update on his book projects there!
He often writes worlds that are dark and tragic, but where the stories and characters he is actually presenting to us center around themes of hope rather than that darkness
Just like Junji Ito
I love his stormlight series because it has such great examples of creative fantasy. It's not all grim dark or dystopian. The main setting is a bit dystopian because it takes place in a very stony environment with a bunch of racists basically at war to commit genocide, but the magic and descriptions for other locations in the world are wonderful and peak fantasy imo, and the character writing is fantastic and features some truly good hearted people trying to make the world a better place. Like there's one place that sometimes gets referred to called the Purelake, it's a region that's about 1-2 feet underwater at all times and always warm, and the people there are laid back and content. There's one city that's a main location that's built into a mountainside from the peak straight down to water for a major port. It's one of the largest trade hubs in the world and has a massive library with a kindly old king that provides free healthcare to literally everybody that comes to the city.
Stormlight Archive is basically Sanderson intentionally trying to write his version of a modern epic fantasy with many locations, characters, magic, politics, etc., and I think he's doing a great job.
Jazza has finally moved to NSFV artwork with that Uncovered Safehand on Shallan.
Hahaha đ I gasped when I saw he hadnât covered her safe hand and I KNEW Brandon was going to call it out
Right?!?!?
â@ladyethyme no, it's the left hand
Some hardcore OnlyHands content
I can't BELIEVE I had to scroll down like ten comments to find the moral outrage over Shallan's scandalous safe-hand. How could Jazza forget?!?
It was extremely validating to be like, "Jazza, you got the most cloak wrong" only to have Sanderson agree, then be thinking, "Kelsier's scars aren't that big, there's lots of little ones" only to have Sanderson agree, then be thinking, "Why are you drawing Kal so stocky?" only to have Sanderson agree, then to be like, "Sanderson is so going to call you out on her hand not being covered," only to have that happen immediately, and finally get to Steelheart and think, "I don't have any concerns about this one," only to have Sanderson once again agree. It's probably because I've read the books more recently (I started just over a year ago and have made my way through almost the entire Cosmere), but I'm glad to know that my imaginings of the characters seems to be pretty close to the authors intent.
I gasped when I saw Shallan's left hand uncovered.
Can't believe you asked this man to make a thumbnail face.
I didnt even think about it until you pointed it out, that's amazing.
How DARE Sanderson do Rock like that?!
Rock CLEARLY gives the best hugs!
...airsick lowlander. lol
I'm sure it was because he couldn't remember how to pronounce Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamor at the time.
I totally thought he was going to say Rock! But TenSoon is a absolutely hilarious answer.
â@@swiftdeath8 It's probably because of his fluffy wolfhound form đș
I mean, he named two kandra, not only that, they're probably the most sociable kandra we've met, I wouldn't put it past him to have overthought this into "techically perfect hug technique due to perfect conscious muscle control" territory.
The fact he said that TenSoon gives the best hugs makes me happy. Considering he is a dog, 100% agreed
I was thinking more along the lines of a very... consuming hug
The reason why people might portray Shallan as older than 18 is because a year on Roshar is 500 days long, so an 18 year old on Roshar would be about 23ish to us.
I appreciate that Brandon Sanderson was a) so chill throughout and b) was gracious but direct in offering feedback. I would love to learn that skill!
It's really interesting because even though they use different mediums, they are both artists. So direct and honest feedback is appreciated.
Sanderson teaches writing courses so he's got that constructive vibe
This is quite literally my favourite author! What the heck!!?!? Where did this come from?! This is the coolest thing ever! Thank you Jazza, and thank you Brandon Sanderson
Shad met Brandon first I believe and had some insight and help from him regarding shadow of the conqueror. Maybe that initial connection led to this wonderful meeting with Jazza?

I was literally dying the whole video! Love Jazza and I love Brandon Sanderson so this was such a fantastic collaboration!
I know such a good author just finished mistborn
While I appreciate the slight tweaks to Kelsier's Arm scars, I've always pictured them to be lengthwise along his arms, as the pits of Hathsin require the prisoners to shove their arms into holes lined with sharp rocks that cut deep into the arms as they reach in to harvest the Atium.
I believe that to be more accurate. Imagine a multitude of white veins running down the arm, or a pattern as if cracking a window at a single point, almost but not quite to the point of shattering it. White, thin, long, numerous and cris-crossing.
I was so happy you did Steelheart. People usually focus on Mistborn or Stormlight, but Steelheart and the Reckoners is such a great series too.
Honestly, I was sort of getting my hopes up that he was going to do Raoden either pre or post Shaod. But Steelheart's solid too!
As a huge Reckoners fan I was hoping beyond hope that we'd get some mention. And we did! Now I only crave more. Limelight, Firefight, Larcener...!

I've been drawing Cosmere fanart for a good few years now. You even featured one of my pieces in the Shallan section. Getting to have that back and fourth with Brandon would be a dream come true. Fantastic work and great depictions!
Which one??????
Watching this as somebody on the Dragonsteel art team (I drew the Mistborn Era 1 and Era 2 sticker packs, among other things) it's fun to see your process! We have a pretty robust system of art continuity across the Creative, Editorial and Merch teams, and it really is a joy to get the feedback "Nailed it, Brandon loves it" after having enjoyed these characters for years.
You did a wonderful job, Jazza! Keep making great videos! I've been a casual fan since your Adobe Flash tutorial days, and I got one of your carry-all bags last year- great stuff!
Ooh! I love those stickers! Thank you so much for everything!

"bare safehand, thats lewd" Literally my first reaction to Shallan.
FAVORITE AUTHOR! Love that you did this collaboration with Brandon! One thing that I really appreciate is that he has described Shallan as looking âJapanese-Irishâ as a result of her ethnic background. I appreciate that almost none of the characters are stereotypically âwhiteâ like a lot of popular fantasy series. Unique ethnic races created for this series is a compelling part of the dynamics. đ
agreed, shallan and kaladin, and other Alethi im sure, looking more asian (at least to us) is such a refreshing change from the white default
Being a huge Sanderson fan, this makes me soooo happy! Incredible work!! đ©·
They say never meet your heroes, but i feel Brandon Sanderson is the exception to that! He seems so down to earth and friendly!
He will be less so the day I get my chance to ask him Wayne's safe word (headcanon is it's his own name)
I named my dog TenSoon, and I can confirm he gives the best hugs.
Great artwork as always Jazza.
As a writer, if I had someone that wanted to draw characters I had created and get feedback, that would be amazing. To know someone else liked them as much as I did to then draw them would feel super special and warm the heartstrings. :D
So as to say, super cool that you did this and he must have really loved it, so I doubt he minded all your little questions. :)
Brandon Sanderson is my favorite author of all time, I remember I went to one of his book signings when I was a kid and got to ask him a question during his Q&A, and he is almost exactly the same in person as he is in interviews and other appearances, a very kind and driven man with a passion for his work and awe-inspiring creative talent. I was lucky enough to actually have a copy of Steelheart signed which I still have to this day, and it's a treasure I hold near and dear to my heart. Great work on the art Jazza, absolutely nailed it :D
Elijah Wood's Bilbo is pretty iconic, but I'd say his portrayal of Tom Sawyer as well as his TV show where he dressed as a Cat are way more iconic. Oh, also him as Harry Potter. I couldn't imagine anyone else playing him.
His range is incredible, I truly think he saved the Twilight films with his Edward!
When did Elijah Wood play Bilbo?
@@Stickyickyslapshot almost... there..

Got to love Brandon for doing things like this and interacting with his fans.
Shallan, especially at the start of the series, would've found having her safehand concealed only by a glove scandalous, too. In order to suit _Shallan_ 's (đ) sense of propriety, she should be depicted with a sleeve instead of a glove. You basically depicted her with the Vorin equivalent of lingerie, LoL.
This was delightful, though. I enjoy the collaboration between an author and an artist.
The lingerie comparison is well-found, but doesn't hold up entirely, seeing as lower class women usually only wear gloves instead of a full sleeve.
I guess it's more similar to a tight tank top? Fine for many people, but a bit revealing for people who are used to covering up more.
@@raizin4908 I was stating it from the perspective of _Shallan_ . So I still stand by what I said, LoL.
@@tulekahju Yeah, fair.
Shallan's perspective is why I tried finding an IRL example that would make some people think "that's practically in my underwear", while still being something other people wouldn't bat an eye about. But I'm not sure how well I succeeded.
Agreed. Iâd expect Veil to wear a glove and think nothing of it, but not Shallan. Sheâs more of a sleeve gal, especially at the stage of the books Jazza drew her from.
â@@raizin4908I think that equivalent would be a lady who typically wears skirts walking about in yoga pants.
i was troubled by the uncovered safehand on Shallan, so scandalous
Safehand?
â@@wordsinahandle In one of the cultures on Roshar (world of Stormlight Archive) women hide their left hand, and it's called the safe hand.
Noblewomen have a complete sleeve with a pouch inside for convenience.
And other women wear a glove on their left hand.
Uncovering the safe hand in public is considered a show of low morals.
@@wordsinahandleVorin(a religion in stormlight archive) women have to cover their left hand, which is called their safe hand.
â@@wordsinahandle it's the left hand. I think the right hand us called the "free hand". An uncovered left hand is considered improper in her culture in the story. For practical reasons, lower class women would wear a glove on their right hand, but upper class women like Shallan would have a longer sleeve on their left to cover their hand, I believe buttoned shut.
So awesome seeing my most admired autor on your channel and in your show. You created wonderful artworks on the books.

Haha, yes!
Id say if you are doing early shallan she wouldn't be wearing a glove but a sleeve fullly covering the safe hand with a safe pouch in it. Shallan made it very clear in her early depictions how scandalous she found the idea of women wearing a glove.
It wasn't until later books and veil that she embraced a glove

A tip for the Asian eyes⊠The top eyelids extend below the lower eyelid in the inner corner of the eyes, and the outer corners of the eyes are high.â€
