An inside look at The Elephant 6 Recording Co., the ’90s rock collective that launched Neutral Milk Hotel, The Olivia Tremor Control, The Apples in Stereo, and other bands. Around 1985, a group of Louisiana high schoolers began experimenting with whatever random instruments and gear they could find. Influenced by psychedelia, and with little to distract them, they birthed a musical revolution.

I remember seeing NMH at the Crocodile Café in Seattle in 97 or 98 and having mind blown. What a time, what a movement.
I watched it last night; definitely worth seeing. In thinking this morning, and in simplifying things, I saw what each of the key folks brought to the mix. Robert, the technical ability and energy, Bill, the pop credibility, Will, the creativity, Jeff, the emotion, etc.. It reinforced with me the importance to tap into the unique skills of all to create magic, no matter what you choose to do in life.
I have been following this movie since the start, since the go fund me era days, it had some momentum then dropped off, then a trailer or clip came, then it went off the radar for years... now it is finally complete after all these years!! I hope it comes to a cinema near me x
I bought it like 5 years ago, and just now saw it for the first time! Lol
I just watched it! I discovered Elephant 6 in Dallas around 1998. After I heard Strawberry Fields Forever on oldies radio, I was looking for more music like that. Someone was playing Olivia Tremor Control at a record store and I bought it! The Music Tapes are my favorite from Elephant 6! But the whole crew seemed like the friends I was looking for but never had!
I am also a huge Beach Boys fan and tried getting friends into their progression stuff. But no one I knew was interested. Good to see Elephant 6 people appreciate them!
