    You could use a cheap round wooden or bamboo cutting board for the table top Chris. Just need to take the rim with you to check sizes. I’ve used them to replace seats on kitchen stools before.

    I like art deco too. A little before my time, but not by much. Thanks for sharing

    Chris, I think you underestimate how valuable it would be to have a channel where you plugged things in of unknown vintage to see if they smoke and/or spark and/or explode. I bet you would make 'more then scrap' with that big subscriber base.

    Quite the bunch of useful chemicals. That gunpowder must have been damp, it was a bit slow; reminded me of my young days making things go BANG. 💣🤪

    • @TheUltimateRecycler
      @TheUltimateRecycler  Před 2 měsíci +1

      It was in a sealed tin, so shouldn't have been damp Alex - maybe it was just a slow burning one!

    The computer is an IBM AT. My father had one, made in UK. We used to play Frogger on it

    • @tassiebob
      @tassiebob Před 2 měsíci

      I'm going to say an XT actually - the slots appear to be the shorter 8-bit variety. No doubt there was an AT version in the same, or similar, case though.

      @TheUltimateRecycler  Před 2 měsíci

      Ah Frogger! I remember that! 😃

    The gun power was a bit of a let down. I don't know I was thinking of an old Aussie movie called Smiley gets a gun, when you're playing with the gun powder. Cheers Graham

      A bit of a let down is safer than "OMG, I didn't expect that!" 😱🤣🤣

    Don't worry about the electronics being a bit boring for some. You can't please everyone all the time. Your channel is about recycling, and that is exactly what you are doing.
    P.S. I hope your Mum is settling in well. My best wishes to her.

      Thanks Dee. Yes, she has settled in pretty well. The house is a lot smaller though and she reckons she will be unboxing for the rest of her life!

    Thanks Chris, that was quite a volatile group of products in that box, good job you're not a smoker ! I'm sure you know well enough your local laws on chemicals having done so many clearances, but my guess is it's probably safer to let those items go as freebies rather than sell even at a token price as that tends to infer a liability ! As you said other peoples chemicals are a bit of a lottery as you can never be sure how old and whether they are what they say on the label.
    Not authentic obviously, but that smoking stand would look great with an old Vinyl record or 78 under a glass top, if you could get the right fit !

      Thanks Andy! That's an excellent idea using a 78 record or similar! 👍😊

    That old McCulloch Bottle might be worth saving for display for a chainsaw enthusiast?

    mid 1980's looks and sounds about right, I'm curious about your teleporting Aussie mice! That case seemed fairly mice-proof!

      Oh our mice are masters at getting in spots where they shouldn't be able to Martin! I think they carry their own tin snips! 🤣

    I saw the dreaded and notorious blue VARTA brand battery on the slot card. I had a very similar machine last year and the same battery was on the board. It caused major damage. With any luck the main board was spared and you have a very nice vintage machine with some small board swap. I'm not an expert but I think it has to be a 386 or earlier as I am quite familiar with the 486 and later.
    Good job taking the magic smoke out of the box before you released it! Excitement!!

    • @tassiebob
      @tassiebob Před 2 měsíci +2

      Yeah, bloody VARTA batteries - a very common cause of damage/death. I have a few things here that have been VARTA'd :-( Some will be fixable, and some not economical to fix. I almost wonder if this machine was stored upside down for a while, as the more serious corrosion is above the battery.
      I believe the card with the corrosion is a basic I/O controller (I originally thought it was the HDD controller, but it looks like a serial/parallel/clock/floppy controller). The other long card was the video card by the looks. The short card is the HDD controller I believe.
      The machine I believe will be an XT clone (based on the expansion card slot size), so 8088 CPU. Some of the other IC's are NEC branded, so the CPU might even be the V20 variant of the 8088.

      @TheUltimateRecycler  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Thanks Nas and Bob! Yep, I'm led to believe that these Varta batteries leak and damage ALL things eventually! The curse of the vintage electronics enthusiast!

    I made a video about reviving lithium battery packs and did the same thing as you had a bit of fun at the end of my video trying to weld with lithium battery packs, have a look at it.

      You're right its about recycling, today I went to my local recycling centre and dropped off some oil after changing the oil in my car last week, eye opener and will be back there again

    • @TheUltimateRecycler
      @TheUltimateRecycler  Před 2 měsíci

      Yep, scary about the Aerogard isn't it! 😱
      All tips should have recycling sheds for re-purposing & re-using stuff FF. If I didn't have a shop, I'd approach the local council and get things changed here! Some areas do it well though 👍😃
