NEW V-16 Bugatti Tourbillon: All the details of the 1800hp HYPERCAR | Henry Catchpole

- This is the new Bugatti Tourbillon, the successor to the Veyron and the Chiron, due to be delivered in 2026. Its looks are very much evolution rather than revolution but unlike its predecessors the Tourbillon doesn’t have a turbocharged W16 engine, instead it has a naturally aspirated, 8.3-litre V16 developed with Cosworth. This produces 1000hp on its own but in conjunction with three electric motors the Tourbillon has a combined hybrid system output of 1800hp (1775bhp).
As you can hear in this video, it is a pretty incredible sounding engine, revving to 9000rpm. It’s a distinctive sound too and for comparison we’ve included the soundtracks of a couple of its naturally aspirated hypercar rivals - the 6.5-litre V12 from the Aston Martin Valkyrie and the 3.9-litre V12 from the GMA T.50 (both also developed with Cosworth).
Bugatti’s Director of Design, Frank Heyl, talks Henry Catchpole around all the fascinating exterior details of the 3.8mIllion Euro Tourbillon but we think the interior is perhaps even more spectacular. With clear influence and inspiration taken from mechanical watches the titanium dials are wonders to behold. The steering wheel is pretty crazy too…
And talking of watches, the car’s name, Tourbillon, means whirlwind in French, but it is a word widely associated with a complicated mechanism found in watches. As Henry explains, with the help of a Ulysse Nardin, it was invented in 1795 to negate the impact of gravity and improve the accuracy of timekeeping in pocket watches.
Of course, this being a Bugatti, it is incredibly fast, with a top speed of 276mph (445kph). It is also capable of 0-62mph in 2sec, 0-124mph in under 5sec, 0-186mph in under 10sec and 0-248mph in under 25sec. But in the age of the hyper EV and cars like the the Bugatti’s cousin, the Rimac Nevera, pure performance doesn’t seem to carry the sway that it once did, so where does that leave the Tourbillon? Catchpole thinks that the answer can be found in the quartz crisis of the 1970s and what followed.

Never in a million years did I ever think a V16 hybrid combo would even be possible in the modern era, and here we are.🤯
In an ultra exclusive limited run car anything is possible, but with 3 E-motors I thought they would dial it back to V12, jury is still out on the sound. Sounds like a chiron to me but without the magical turbo and wastegate noises.
The Reason Why The Climate is Hot: Nothing Can Ever Surpass the Truth
"I have always been keen on guiding the astray who followed those who earned the wrath of Allaah. Unfortunately, they were never guided because they did not use their minds to understand the Words of Allaah in the Great Qur'an, to believe it is the Truth. But, they will never understand it (the Qur'an) except through the torment of Allaah, Lord of the heavens, earth, and what is between them, and Lord of the Great Throne. In line with the Word of Allaah the Exalted:
Qur'an - Surah: al-Israa' - Verses: 58-59
O mankind, here you are feeling the approach of the torment of Saqar, the greatest calamity. And I have already told you with truth that you have entered the summer of Saqar starting from 2023, despite having been constantly warning you of the passing of planet Saqar for 19 years. Unfortunately, the more I warn you, the more you run away and disbelieve in the existence of Allaah. Today's nations are like the people of the prophet Noah, they do not fear the majesty of Allaah (See Qur'an, Surah: Noah). Anyway, following a sweltering summer at the North Pole, the people of planet Earth, in both north and south, have declared the arrival of the autumnal equinox. At the same time, residents of Antarctica declared that the vernal (spring) equinox had begun there. And far is that from happening.
I had already given you a ruling before with the truth in a previous statement that the summer of Saqr was on the horizon of the Antarctic continent of the planet Earth, eliminating the winter of the far pole where nobody lives. Then, Saqar annihilated the winter of countries that share the Antarctic climate. Their winter has been replaced with heat, so that they may understand what I am warning them of. Those who live in the Antarctic are waiting for which spring after the annihilation of the Antarctic winter? Do they not reason?! Here is the summer of Saqar, which will attack the two temperate seasons (autumn in the north of the Earth and spring in the south of the Earth). And it will scientifically fail all your weather forecasting devices. It will mystify your knowledge and destroy your credibility among the peoples of the worlds. Indeed, ultimate proofs belong to Allaah, O worshippers of the Physics of Nature. We shall wait and see if the Physics of Nature, given to you by Allaah as a means of mercy for you, will submit to the power of Allaah, thus it turns against you and makes your knowledge equal to zero. Anyway, given that the summer of Saqar swept through the four seasons, there will be a war of hurricanes of fire attacking forests and homes, and a flood of water pouring down at the suitable time whenever Allaah wills and not when you will. So where are the inventors of artificial rain to extinguish wildfires if they are truthful? I truly pity Arabs for being manipulated by Arab and non-Arab devils to demolish the fundamental beliefs in the clear verses of the great Qur'an, thus they believe in the opposite of the challenge of Allaah in His Words:
Qur'an - Surah: al-Waqi’ah- Verses: 68-70
Lo and behold, non-Arabs and Arabs! I swear by Allaah, I am thinking of disbelievers in the eras of prophets and I find them closer to knowing Allaah than the nations of this atheist world in the era of Allaah's caliph al-Mahdi. Disbelievers in the era of prophets were closer to becoming believers if it was not for their association of partners besides Allaah owing to their blind following to their fathers. See their response to the messengers sent by their Lord in the Word of Allaah the Exalted:
{وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ اللَّهُ ۚ قُلْ أَفَرَأَيْتُم مَّا تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ إِنْ أَرَادَنِيَ اللَّهُ بِضُرٍّ هَلْ هُنَّ كَاشِفَاتُ ضُرِّهِ أَوْ أَرَادَنِي بِرَحْمَةٍ هَلْ هُنَّ مُمْسِكَاتُ رَحْمَتِهِ ۚ قُلْ حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ ۖ عَلَيْهِ يَتَوَكَّلُ الْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ ﴿٣٨﴾}
صدق الله العظيم
[سورة الزمر]
Qur'an - Surah: az-Zumar- Verse: 38
So call upon your gods that you worship other than Allaah to save you from the evil of Allaah's cosmic and Corona war if you are truthful. Here you have entered the summer of Saqar, so do not wait for the four known seasons from now on because they along with winter in the south pole and the coming winter have been replaced by the summer of Saqar. Do you reckon I am talking nonsense? How strange your stance is, non-Arabs and Arabs! Logically if Nasser Mohammed al-Yamani were truly truthful in announcing the entrance of planet Earth in the climate of planet Saqar, the four seasons would be annihilated that perhaps you may think. Indeed Allaah's proofs are far-reaching. Planet Saqar is going to be blazed by the command of Allaah to be a mercy from Allaah upon you for it is better for you to feel its blaze than aboding inside it. Also, perhaps feeling its hotness causes you any remembrance. Indeed, Hellfire (Saqar) will produce fuming and growling sounds towards the Earth and they shall surround the four cardinal directions (South, North, East, and West). This is the loud roaring of Planet Saqar which appears to mankind on the horizon from time to time, in line with the Word of Allaah the Exalted:
{إِذَا رَأَتْهُم مِّن مَّكَانٍ بَعِيدٍ سَمِعُوا لَهَا تَغَيُّظًا وَزَفِيرًا ﴿١٢﴾}صدق الله العظيم
[سورة الفرقان]
Qur'an - Surah: al-Furqan- Verse: 12
Because it will pass on the Earth from a distance, it will not collide with it. You will see the circle of planet Saqar when it rises from the far Southeast to the far Southwest. It will be conspicuous in the visible universe. On the night it passes, it will obscure the horizons of planet Earth from the four cardinal directions. You are also going to witness the sign of the evident smoke of a painful torment. So wait, indeed I too am waiting with you, and I know what I am saying, in line with the Word of Allaah the Exalted:
{حم ﴿١﴾ وَالْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ ﴿٢﴾ إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَارَكَةٍ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ ﴿٣﴾ فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ ﴿٤﴾ أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ ﴿٥﴾ رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ ﴿٦﴾ رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ ﴿٧﴾ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ ۖ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ آبَائِكُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ ﴿٨﴾ بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ ﴿٩﴾ فَارْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِي السَّمَاءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ ﴿١٠﴾ يَغْشَى النَّاسَ ۖ هَٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ﴿١١﴾ رَّبَّنَا اكْشِفْ عَنَّا الْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿١٢﴾}

Yup. The Cadillac V-16 was an incredible machine from the 1930s. I would roll up in a Four Seasons or the Wynn in that car over any of the Euro exotics.
In 100 years that dash will still be revered as a masterpiece. The digital panels car makers pass off as a dash board today are embarrassing and should all take note of such a truly timeless masterpiece.

True, I don't even want to think how obnoxious Carwow would do this review.
The comparison between electric cars and the quartz crises in watches is absolutely spot on. It makes me hopeful that even if “regular” cars go electric, there will still be a place for mechanical enthusiasts just like in the watch world.
There will have to be, there will never be enough resources and infrastructure to force 100% electric. The best shot at it would require powered roads like slot car racing.

Truth!
The interior is literally art

Might just be me but something very nostalgic looking about this car, reminds me of some 2000s concept cars. Excessive in all the right ways. Looks great
I had the exact same thought. 2000s proportions without any of the cheesy details. Thematically really reminds me of the Audi Avus and Bentley Hunaudieres
Henry Catchpole is the best automotive journalist. Gets down to the details of what makes this car special. Compared to the other journalists only focusing on the price and numbers. Great video.
The Quartz Crisis comparison was excellent. A feeling I’ve shared for years now. Glad companies are coming around.
Love the looks. An interior like a Pagani and rear lights like a P1. The influences are apparent. Can't wait to see the Super Sport variant of this monster.
Supercars will survive as coachbuilt pieces of emotional art. Also, the dynamic forces of a V16 crankshaft spinning to 9000 rpm must be wild.
I watched Shmee150, Top Gear and Carwow's videos about this new Bugatti, of all of them this was the best
The build quality on these Bugattis is stunning
My favorite parts about Hagerty videos is that you get true full screen on a 21:9 ultrawide monitor without any black bars.
Henry is also always an amazing presenter, I never get tired of him!
Been saying for years that the commoditization of cars with LCD/OLED displays will make luxury car interiors containing them appear lower quality.
Physical gauges with retractable central LCD displays like these will be the new high standard. They actually appear to match the price of the car.
I think the design is brilliant. It keeps the legacy of the Chiron while taking radically new approaches such as the rear diffuser. The interior is also incredible, both futuristic and classic with all the watch-making elements.
The Tourbillon is definitely a gorgeous car, and while the Chiron might be a more raw car, the former is more refined and takes a new direction which I really like
it's also the switch from "lets make the most horsepower possible" to "we have too much power with the electric assist, what can we make out of it, lets remove the turbos and let it rev freely"
This is easily the best presentation I've ever seen. Henry's usual excellence notwithstanding, this dude speaks like a sommelier working in a two star restaurant but also knows and appreciates every tiny detail of the car. He's got all the facts and figures memorized, he's passionate about the project and the team behind it and shares crucial insights into their mindset and the advancements they've made over the previous model. Outstanding.
Never thought I’d live to see a V16 engine, specially in the midst of this EV hype.

That resounding "THUMP" with each upshift is so strong.
Gorgeous in every facet--colour, design and "analog" performance. Love it! Well-done Bugatti. Thank heaven there's still beauty in the world. It's so refreshing to see a motorcar that is still elegant, embraces its heritage and doesn't make you feel "like everybody else"--or worse still so touch-screen designed, you feel as if you're sitting in a laptop. A true work of art in all categories Bugatti!

Yeah, the valkyrie engine makes similar power at similar RPM while being smaller, the bugatti engine could be pushed to 1200 hp+

@@jimboslice500and they can make more money.
Calm down. 120hp per liter is world class. Only a handful of NA motors make more than that. Once you cross the 100 per liter mark you're making a high performance motor, reliability will come from the strength of the internals. The more power the less reliable, only so much you can do there but make it strong and plenty of cooling.

Wow. Just wow! The first bugatii that is actually beautiful and worthy of the name ...
This was the absolute best look at the Tourbillon. No one does it better than Henry. Bravo.
That analogy with watch industry and cars is spot on!
Love the energy from the designer. Love that Henry let him speak! Awesome machine. Lovely mechanical thing. Long live the combustion engine!
Oh my.
This is outstanding.
YES NA!!! No turbos!!!
Electric… even worse
@@romanthomas2.0 Have you even driven any modern performance hybrids?
@@romanthomas2.0are you a kid, what the problem of having electric inside a combustion engine
Henry on the money yet again…so much intricacy compared to the other channels…definitely a favourite of the new Bugatti review videos.
The outro comparing EVs to quartz watches needs to be heard by everyone. I've become increasingly bored of cars, perhaps not ironically becoming more interested in watches - but cars like this go a long way in sparking the imagination and appreciation of craftsmanship.
The video is a work of art showcasing a work of art.
That's the great thing about hybrids, keeping the N/A engine alive. That sounds like 2 V8's having a go at each other!
No it sounds like an N/A civic with an intake lol, if you look up a video to compare it’s the exact same
@@hein228 that might depend on your earphones?
Those gauges are simply mesmerising.
Bravo to the designers / engineers that created them.
The only Tourbillion video I’ll watch
Sounds exactly like two V8s running at the same time.
Did you see Jason Fenske's video on this? Check out engineering explained for a full geek out on the engine. He even goes in to whether it works like a pair of V8s or a pair of straight 8s.
At the same time. Always wanted to do that
its most likely two Audi V8's joined at the crankshaft
@@redriver15262 TBH, I have a crazy hypothesis that it's a bespoke engine made by Cosworth, but IDK where I got that from.
@@redriver15262 Its not an existing VW design. It is bespoke, made by Cosworth.
Gorgeous car, great interview. Well done!
Perfect video
Let the designer talk and just steer him gently in the direction you want the conversation to go.
Well done Henry.
Not a 0-60 car fanboy, but the NA v16, the aero efficiency, the SC Atlantic callbacks with the center gurney, Bugatti knocked it out of the park with this! Now make one without the front ⚡ and a ribbon wing like AMR and you have a track Hypercar MONSTER🎉
I expected it to be different looking from the Chiron
Same here.
Bugattis are beginning to feel like the 911, every model is an evolution rather than a fresh departure.
looks like a squashed chiron with a unreasonably long nose to me
@@Voraciously_Learning It. Is. You cannot justify the differences through video. It's shorter and has different body lines not to mention the completely redesigned interior and doors.... . . .. . .. . .. ......
@@Voraciously_Learning they should have changed the front. We had a jump from pe Veyron to the Chiron. The Bolide also looks quite different. This new wngine deserved a new front at least
I really like it. Like a Chiron that got divorced, lawyered up and hit the gym and is living its best life.
Absolutely brilliant video. Again.
I'd love to hear this engine in real life at least once before I die... 😅
What a magnificent video, as always...can't go wrong with Henry!
A near-2000 bhp hypercar that's not an EV? YES, PLEASE! ❤️❤️
@3:05 Oops, the fuel gauge is a very fine instrument measuring the tourbillon of fuel disappearing up in smoke at a rate only matched by a Russian oil refinery next to the Azov Sea.
Was watching live and saw this pop up
Same 😂 Matteo was taking to long to get to the facts and he seems nervous too.
It sucked that it took 30mins longer for the reveal
Great analogy by Henry at the end there. Lovely video.
Love Catchpole’s choice of timepiece to cover a car named Tourbillin 😂
Calculator watch FTW Henry 🔥🔥🔥🔥😂😂
Wow just wow
This is one of the best videos about the new car.
There are no words to describe the beauty of not only the car but it's engineering
Nobody talking about the 550 on the speedometer?
this is what hybrid supercars and hypercars should be. ev powertrain plus marvelous naturally aspirated combustion engine. so incredible and sounds absolutely amazing
What a spectacular piece of engineering. Bugatti (and Rimac) raise the bar once again. Can't wait to see some thoughts when people get to drive this!
Always a joy to listen to the designers talk about these cars. Just like the interview with Murray it gives so much niche insight into the work that went into these designs
W BUGATTI 🇫🇷 The Bugatti Tourbillon 🏎️💨🐐🇫🇷🔥
As someone who has hypercar fatigue... i kinda love it.
Do you own too many hypercars?
@@Make-Asylums-Great-Again I actually do. All made by matchbox, but still...
WHAT a work of art is this Tourbillon, I have never really been that into Bugattis in the past other than really respecting them for their numbers and their history with VW group, but I think I seriously love this Tourbillon. IT'S SO ELEGANT and so Aggressive, and so cool, I just love this.
I feel like electricity is giving big engined cars a Renaissance. Naturally Aspirated Engines with multiple cilinders and AMAZING sounds thanks to the aid of electricity to help with their carbon emissions, BRILLIANT.
Wonderful parallel with the quartz crisis in horology. I think you hit the nail on the head.
Tourbillon? What? Did they run out of French racing drivers to name their cars after?
I wouldn't call it ugly unlike some but it doesn't seem to be a big stylistic departure over the Chiron in the same way the Chiron was to the Veyron.
The industrial designer in me appreciates the subtle changes they made over the outgoing car. Much of ID is actually like that. The result is they've successfully liposuctioned a lot of the visual fat of the Chiron (and Veyron). It now looks properly svelte and sleek. I like-y.
It is a new era after the retirement of W16 engine in favour of V16 so name change. Notice now the common element is the name ending with "on".
So it's a 4 MILLION dollar car.
That's obscene extravagance.
Cheap next to the fleets of private jets the future owners of these probably own. Obscene, nonetheless.
at this level itsa bout tax evasion liek private jets
I mean you can charge whatever you want for anything. There are million dollar watches, art, jewellery etc. At least you can drive this one.
It is. And it's not a perfect system that the pinnacle of automotive design and creativity is left exclusively to the uber rich.....but compared to the aviation world where the pinnacle of design, creativity and performance, is things that are literally designed to murder human beings....well...it's all relative right?
Amazing analogy between quartz vs Automatic watches and ICE vs electric supercars. 💡💡
It’s beautiful. And who better than Henry to introduce us to it.
