Im glad 16 and 8 bit platformers are still going strong.
I swear all I played ALL summer were metroidvanias.. well gotta play this one too now.
This is not a metroidvania.
Part of it is.
James Neeson it is... just not from the very start
I swear all I played for the past few months were castlevania\metroid style games.. well looks like i'll have to play this as well......Just fckin with u Boom! :) I liked your latest review on the indie fighter
You sir win the internet today!
Love how you guys ended the video with the collection of the musical note...really added a nice touch to the mystery and late 80s aesthetics of this game
Here after sea of stars true ending! Didnt know about this game, i love the shared music/characters between these 2 games!
Yeah, I only just heard of this game the day before my digital code for Sea of Stars arrived. I'm planning on getting it within the next few days..
The amount of this kind of games that came out recently is overwhelming.
I think you forgot a word, maybe.
@@everettvonscott ty.
@@darknon lol you kidding? Dead cells combat is absolutely sublime
What do you call interesting combat in a metroidvania?
U dont have to play them all back to back im so happy
This game looks super badass! Unfortunately I can’t fit this in right now but it’s on my list for sure. Great review Damiani!
Did you ever get around to playing this? I just beat it and absolutely loved it!
I'll buy this eventually, but I've spent way too much time in Metroidvanias and platformers this summer.
Great review Damiani!
Just bought the game today and got all collectibles and completed literally today took nine hours of game play but it was awesome. Dont see much point in new game plus though. But bbn I still found the game to be incredible
great review! thanks guys. this game looks really fun, can't wait!
>Bypassing intended methods
>Collision problems
Wouldn't want a Damiani review without em.

"Bypass clearly intended methods to reach a goal." Yupp, Damiani definitely reviewed this.
Making my morning drive that much better :)
Sweet, i thought it was "just" a cool Ninja Gaiden-esque linear side scroller. I was planning to get it Day One anyway, but this sure is a nice surprise i didn't expect. Can't wait to play!
2:40 Did I notice some serious frame rate dips when all those spinning particles were on screen? Or is that intentional?
Two years later but...I don't see why framerate drop
Goddamn the soundtrack sounds like it'll be super amazing
Its weird... i love the sound of all the tracks, but they dont stick with me like Megaman or Castlevania - they are just cool to listen to while you play and thats it. Except the Shop theme and the Stage one theme... those are SOLID!
August 2018 is like Metroidvania month. La-Mulana 2, Guacamelee 2, Messenger, Death Gambit, last DLC for Hollow Knight and some metroidvania inspired roguelikes like release of Dead Cells and Chasm. Some are better then others (La-Mulana is always miles better then anything else in my book), but overall a big feast for fans of exploration platformers
This game is pretty solid and I love it.
Special Reserve Games is doing a physical release for this.. I really hope they are doing it for PS4 and not just Switch.
Looks super sweet
He looks and moves like ninja gaiden for game gear, oh the good times I had with that game.
I absolutely loved this game. Iconoclasts was ok, worse than I hoped but this was one of the best metroidvania type game I’ve played in a long time
Holy shit that soundtrack sounds like an absolute banger
A must get for me
Best review so far
Thanks guys 👍🏻
No kiwami 2 review from you guys? Anyways great review!
Easy allies: Any Chance we get a Hollow knight review now that the complete edition is out and available on consoles?
best reviews on the net
What other metroidvania came out? I know Dead Cells and Guacamelee 2
The ones I know of are Chasm and Death's Gambit
This looks fucking incredible
Is there gonna be a review for Yakuza Kiwami 2 by you guys?
Thanks guys 😊
I'll get anything Devolver backs.
I was onboard until I heard it turns into a metroidvania.
Solid
pushed off Dead Cells to later for hollow knight lastest dlc but it seems like I won't be able to finish that anytime soon. Really have to pick and choose huh, way too many metroidvanias right now.
How can there ever be too many? Just pick them up whenever you feel like it!
Dead Cells freaking rock. Usually not my cup of tea, but the progression and the combat is just so good and satisfying. Though trying to unlock everything takes a good amount of time. :D And don't know if I will ever beat it on 4 cells difficulty, probably not. :D
No Xbox/PS4 release?
1:53 "that don't impress me much"
My GOTY!
When is the Dragon Quest XI review coming up?
What an incredible game. I’m so late
This game is good.. Most game company they are trying to push the game console limit by bringing old game franchise to HD, 3d.. But actually old retro games do look good.. Simple n nicer.. Looking for more 2d action, fighting game, beat em up games.. Old is gold
I'm getting this and I've already played hollowknight, yokus and deadcells this year. Guac had to get the cut. I haven't let a single genre dominate a year like this for me sense I mostly just played shooters in 2007
If you get a chance, guac and guac 2 are awesome
donut county review 10/10
Damn damiani reviews are always a cold shower. And then, you see 8.5 and you say "wait what ?"
waiting for that cyberpunk 2077 reaction by blood.
an onimusha by huber and brad
Are the Allies planning to review Shenmue?
@@EasyAllies thank you for the reply. (Too bad but oh well)
Are you doing a Dragon Quest XI review?
It's the worst feeling ever to get half way through an IGN review and then see that EA review thumbnail that you shoulda clicked on. o_O
framedrops?
Contender for Indie GOTY.
Yo any video on the Cyberpunk reveal?
Everyone love this sword jump mechanic but I really hate it. Specially combined with the glide move, which sometime fails when you try to switch sword jump moves. I ended up dying because of this issue. If they did do a second game, I hope the add a different button prompt to switch different sword jumps. It became less fun towards the end to otherwise a great game.
Surprised this game and Guacamelee 2 both scored better than dead cells which feels much more polished to me.
guacaamele 2 is extremely polished. I'm playing that now and it's great
💚🖤💚🖤💚🖤💚
I couldv sworn this game had a skill system..
it's more action plattformer than metroidvania
I'm honestly really tired of retro-style Metroidvanias that poke fun at old, more popular games and reference things like wall chicken or whatever, like we've never heard any of that shit before. I'm sure this stands on its own and it's a perfectly solid game, but man, why couldn't this have just been a linear ninja action game? Metroidvania exploration doesn't seem to add anything to this game, it's just something to market.
What a good time that would be for Capcom to make new 2d Castlevania games..
Old comment lol but that's Konami
Was wondering why this game is labeled as bloated 12-15hrs long. Would love something like that other 2d retro one-shot sword side scroller that came out around the same time. Not sure if I have the time to play a game that utilizes tedium to pad the run time.
Good review.. but you should try to avoid showing off too much of later sections and bosses .... this review is filled up with spoilers from the beginning...
Yo where’s the cyberpunk 2077 gameplay reaction at?
Hmm tis Dragon Quest looks....different
No ps4 releasE?
Fb messenger
The music sounds so much like Shovel Knight even though it's different composers it's almost seems like a ripoff (maybe just using the same synth or something though).
Semper Roto you mean sonically right? As in the 8-bit style chip sound? If so that's intentional, and it's not like SN pioneered it, they just made it popular again
sure I get that, I feel like this is one step beyond just that though, it's not just that it is both chiptune music but I'm not really versed in that szene so maybe it is a more common sound than I think
The same lazy comment with difficult games: ''if you die, is your fault''
Sick and tired of that nonsense.
It is a pretty important part of these kinds of games and definitely not a given, so why does it make you sick?
Sometimes dying feels out of your control, like in Symphony of the Night when you get knocked back out of the room and fall into a pit of spikes.
It's not lazy, it's accurate, some games, especially fighting games, the competition is clearly rigged in the game's favor and cheapness abounds...games like this, the difficulty is balanced simply on playing well, learning patterns, and mastering timing. It's the conversation of natural challenge vs artificially inflated challenge.
Phew, this is probably the worst review of this game ive ever seen.
How?
Metroidvania genre is dead since Godmaster update for Hollow Knight. No content, but just more of the same with numbers go up until you just don't care anymore.
How? Seriously. How is it dead? If there's a shit ton of Metroidvanias coming out, and all of them have been received positively, the gameplay formula has merit.
That would only apply to Hollow Knight, still plenty of fun Metroidvanias out there to be found, and coming down the pike.
