- Today I’m taking you on the 8 best groomers to ski on Blackcomb Mountain in Whistler BC. I filmed this video over a few different days while ripping up my favourite CARVING runs on the hill. On a hard packed or snow groomed day, hitting the carvers on a ski with some sharp edges and fresh wax is the is the ideal way to spend a Whistler day. Blackcomb mountain is perfect for carving and each and every blue groomed run is steep enough to quench the thirst of any speed demon. If you like carving or cruising on groomed runs you need to put all 8 of these treasures on your skiing hit list.

@@riseandalpine nice! I will definitely check it out. If you are on the mountain between the 15th to 18th, just look for the orange snowboarder. I got an orange board and it spiraled from there with orange gear gifts.

twist and shout for ripping. overbite for the bumps. on Whis lets see you rip off of franz chair down franz and lower franz to creek. straight shot get the legs burning.upper to lower peak to creak, straight shot again. hammer it.. Got to love the saddle on whis too.. gun barrels for the steep and deep, big timber for some speed and cant leave out dave murray downhill

Didn’t manage to beat my 80mph this time round. But did get 58mph on 7th heaven, on the run you skied.

If you get an Insta360 one x2 camera, you can pair it with an Apple Watch, iPhone or GPS remote. It will overlay speed, elevation and slope angle data in the video. Might be fun 👍🏻
@@aconlin I recently was gifted an insta 360 and I'm currently figuring out the ins and outs. Didn't know it has a elevation/speed overlay thats so sick! I'll have to use it.

Off the top of my head you might want to try Lower Gear Jammer, Stoker Bumps or Raptors Ride!
Raptors Ride has some trees but the slope angle is pretty mellow so its a good spot for learning trees and bumps.

On Whistler it’s hard to beat Franz’s Run. Or, when it’s groomed, Peak to Creek. Tokum is a great cruiser too.
Oh man I love Tokum too. A Fresh Franz is killer but you got to get on it early before it turns into an ice rink 😂 😂 😂
My absolute favorite is (from top of Excelerator) is Honeycomb to Cruiser to Espresso.

I'm wearing the Smith IOS with the chromapop lense. They are amazing in low light situations and have never fogged up on me in my 2 years of running them.
Hey man, I’m heading out Whistler in a few weeks, I ski in Ontario so it’s a completely different world. I came here when I was 11 but now I’m 16 so I think I get some challenges in. I’ve ski raced so I’m pretty good on groomers(only thing we have), but was wondering the best runs or tips for trying in the trees or for the bowls. Thanks!
With a ski racing background you'll pick up tree and bowl skiing super quickly.
The biggest difference for you will be the snow itself. Take it slow at first and I would recommend using smaller (Slalom) like turns and focusing on bouncing through them. Be really active, centred and balanced in your legs.
As for trees... Dodge them like you do gates!

The lines have been super mellow this year. I was up this last Saturday and was skiing onto all the lifts! Weekdays have been ideal.
I think the inability/risk for many to travel is keeping the hill quiet relative to other years.

No problem if they groom the bottom! Would be way more impressive to do under 5 with full ice bumps though!

For a start I would reccomend Upper Gear Jammer (No trees) and Authurs Choice (Trees) as great beginner black runs.
Although moguls can be painful, they are the best way to improve your skiing and timing when transitioning to harder terrain. If you can learn to ski moguls you will be able to make split second turns in the trees.
Also another amazing way to improve is to keep playing around on side hits/trails in the trees!

You can see it from the Glacier Lodge and it's the best hot dogging run on the mountain!
Scratch that.... the run at 11:30 is Overbite. And then I cut to Davies Dervish.

shhhh don't tell anyone....
But none of the runs you skied were actually groomed. The sad reality about WB is half an hour after the hills open all the groomed runs are skied out.
Grooming was a little wild this year with the lack of staff and snow during mid-season.
It's always the play to be first up the gondola on a groomer day so you can snag some corduroy before it gets poached 😂 😂
