The Ski Season Started Early - My first turns of 2024!

- The recent storm in the West missed Whistler Blackcomb but 30cm of glorious fresh fell in Vancouver's North Shore. I busted my balls too Cypress and climbed up Strachan before it melted. This is the earliest I’ve ever been on my skis in my life and I couldn’t be more stoked to be skiing again in the sea to sky. Honestly, I am shocked with how good the turns actually were. I somehow managed to ski a few hundred metres of untouched pow. I can't believe it's October. Sorry ski bases, it was worth it!

Cypress has lots of great terrain. I'm keen to give it a real ski when it opens up. I haven't skied it since 2011.
@@riseandalpine it's been my go to for the last couple of years, though I've gone sporadically since I was a kid. Honestly, the weekends aren't even worth it anymore unless you love skiing with screaming children and families. Lol. That being said once you get to some of the more advanced terrain, there is virtually no one so that's always nice, but the lift lines have rivalled Whistler on weekends at times.
The night skiing on weekends (or any day) is still well.worth it though. Weekdays are also bliss on a nice bluebird.
You absolute madman, I love the enthusiasm, I am hyped for the upcoming season!

I was both surprised and not surprised by this video -- surprised that people had actually tried to ski on just the 12 cm dump Cypress got this week, and not surprised that Rise and Alpine made a video about it, haha! I've skinned up Cypress in late November, after they've opened up one run but most of the mountain is still closed, and even at that later date I've _still_ gouged my ski bases, so I knew this was going to end up being a shark surfing video... But we are entertained!

For skiers, the sound of rocks is the most cringe sound in the world hahhaa! No damage to the core :). Nothing a little p-tex can't fix.

Haha the stoke is real!! Doing the same over here in northern Sweden, just all we get is a big ice sheet over our mountains for now but stoke is still the same. Peace from the other side of the pond ✌️

Your best bet is to find some old skis with (frame) touring bindings on them on facebook marketplace or craigslist!

Yo Tristan! Hilarious to see all the stoke from everyone trying to sneak some goofy turns in. The Nordica's cracked because I slash landed at speed on a shark. Pretty unlucky but they stayed together for an entire season and I'm sure they'd still last for life. I'm lucky to be getting hooked up with another set of twigs so have the privledge of phasing the 115's out, even though I love them. Bents are a sick ski for powder. I find them a little to soft for harder days, but you can't beat their powder performance.
Awesome first turns video but I have to ask what settings you are using on your Insta360. I have the insta360x3 and no matter what settings I use I can't seem to get a video as clear as yours.
Hey Ryan, I actually was just running the stock setting 4k/30 and downloaded it on my iPhone in the insta360 app. Sometimes I find it's just the sun hitting the right way off the snow that makes it look really crisp.
My first time I tore my first ACL was on a Rock off trail openning season at Snow Summit. My 2nd ACL was because of that.

We got same here but here in Koots is Dry Snow. Champagne season is about too hit here in Rossland BC.

Hey man love the vids! If these are your rock skis now, what are you going to replace them with? I'm looking at buying either these or the Declivity 102 Ti, what do you recon (for skiing in Europe)
Hey! I've got some new skis on the way for this season. I'll have to surprise everyone with a review when I take them out. The Nordica 104's and Declivity's are both hard charging skis. Personally, I've never been on the Declivity's but I can tell you all about the Nordica Enforcer Free 104... It's my favourite all round ski in whatever conditions and has shockingly good performance on the hard pack. You gotta ski them hard but man are they fun.
You can't go wrong with either choice!

I'm about to do this on sunday at my resort. If you don't mind, any tips for not scraping your skis up too bad with 10 inches of snow?
If you are as eager as me, that's epic. Your best bet is to lean back, try and stay light on your skis and barely turn. Also try and ski grassy runs and you'll be fine. It's the rocky slopes that kill ya. Let me know how it goes you legend!

I might have to get out there because yeah I've been noticing the amount of snow on the mountains recently.
Because of the sun it's even more shallow than it already was. But, one or two more snowfalls and we should be rocking and rolling.

Dukes have been kick ass for me. Obviously taking off the toe piece can be a hassle. But it's super quick and easy and I've never had snow problems getting them on and off. Biggest concern for me is my backpack opening up while I'm climbing and losing a toe piece LOL. But I triple check everything is zipped and secure.
I'd totally recommend them as they are the perfect daily driver for the resort and just what you need for the odd uphill day. No release or icing problems like those shifts.

They are Marker Duke PT's and I love them. Perfect resort binding and work good enough for climbing uphill. The best of both worlds for me and I've had zero issues with them.

When I film myself talking I keep it on 4k Linear (all factory settings). I find the 11 factory settings work amazing in blue sky snow conditions.

Are those the 115 Free's? You could probably core shot that ski 20 times and it would still work fine.
Yup! Believe it or not I cracked them in a chute my 5th day riding last season... super fluke and still rode them for the rest of last season. No ski shop thought they were fixable, they said maybe they would snap in half at some point, but I keep putting them through hell. I always love having a couple sheets of solid metal beneath my feet.
