I was about 6 years old. We were at the "Boscov's" department store and she was signing autographs. My father said, "She is really famous, go get her autograph". I had no idea, but glad he told me to go talk to her. She was very nice!

What you see is what you get with Dottie Lamour: Down-to-earth, humble, classy, interesting, and so beautiful and talented! Thanks for posting!

Miss Lamour paid Mike such a nice compliment, with which I certainly agree. This brings back memories of when the big stars were gracious and classy. Mike's audiences were three generations: you could watch with your parents and grandparents. So different from the screaming, 3-ring circuses on the air now. Interesting conversations and great guests, like Miss Lamour. She was Hollywood Royalty.

Dorothy Lamour and my grandmother were friends. They went to beauty school together here in New Orleans.

@@gingerlord4983 because I’m very fascinated by the many articles and videos I’ve come across that claim Dorothy Lamour was “passing”. Super interesting to me. Is that okay with you?

Thanks so much for this. I was a dancer in the Dorothy Lamour national tour of Hello, Dolly! (though not, however, in the Las Vegas run). Lamour was a joy to work with. For those interested, there's a 5-minute audiobook excerpt on CZcams of my time with her, taken from my autobiography, The Wrong Side of the Room: A Life in Music Theater, in which there is an entire chapter devoted to the tour. Here is the link to the excerpt: www.youtube.com/@normanmathews

I loved watching Mike Douglas (which I believe used to be on at 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday).
Wow. It is amazing how obviously different things were back then.
