  • Pacific Northwest Trip: Part 5
At the end of our day in the Olympic National Park, we checked in to the Lake Quinault Lodge, had a bite to eat, and headed out onto the Quinault Loop Trail. It was getting dark, but we managed to make it through the rainforest and back to the lake to get a good look at the hotel. We even had time to drive to the world's largest Sitka Spruce tree and to see Merriman Falls.
The waterfall was impressive, and definitely a highlight, as was Falls Creek, which cascaded under the bridges that make up part of the loop trail. We found banana slugs along the way as well as a herd of Elk passing through some farm houses while we drove to the falls. There were birds around the lodge including a few hummingbirds. So we got out wildlife fix in.
