- The Mercedes-Benz GLC is likely to be a frontrunner if you're considering a premium-badged SUV. But is the 2021 model still worth considering? In this CarGurus UK review, Rebecca Jackson assesses the GLC 300e plug-in hybrid model to see how it fares for space, technology, comfort, performance, efficiency and more.

A neighbour had this as a courtesy car. Same exact colour - 70 plate. Looks gorgeous.
trust me it's best drive - my bias
...'without busting your budget'??? This car starts at £45K+.
It would cost around €68k in Ireland
@@CptSpears007 You guys get paid more money.
A “ much more manageable £45k” no less! What planet is this woman on?
Check the used market
@@FrenchBulldogsCantSpeakFrench Still worth ~£40k (with reasonable mileage)...
Was a good video, but I have to ask, why does CarGurus need two watermarks on the video? And why does the one on the left need to be so large? Surely you can protect your videos without the watermark being that big. Dial it back by 50% and I think it would be spot on.
Actually, the charge times are incorrect based on my last 18 months driving the car. The 13.5KW battery charges from zero to full in 4.5 hours on a three pin domestic socket at 2.2Kwh. If you use a fast charger at 7.2kwh which is the maximum it will accept, it will take you around 90 minutes. The battery indication is bent needle from MB, so it never actually fully discharges to zero even when showing zero, so you cannot simply do the maths. My best guess is that when zero, the battery is around 3KW remaining. This is how you can drive on electric below 5mph on electric even when your battery shows zero and this includes starting off as well. If you divide 10.5/2.2=4.7 hours or 4 hours 42 minutes which is domestic 3 pin and 10.5/7.2=1.45 hours or 1 hour 27 minutes. The 3KW remaining is dependent upon temperature and mostly in autumn, spring and summer temperatures, its nearer 3.2KW remaining, so a very slightly reduced charge time of 4.5 hours, 3 pin and 85 minutes at 7.2kw fast charge. In winter add an additional 15 mins and 5 mins receptively.
Bought one for my Mom birthday. She loves it because it's a Merc she can show off to the neighbours. Honestly I would get an XC60 if it was for myself.
Which doesn't say anything intelligent, or flattering about your Mum or German luxury also-rans
Thinking of doing the same for my dad in a few years :) currently 18 so need to work a few years to get there
Is the steering lighter than a BMW X1, which I find heavy to steer
The only thing differentiating is the badge, I'm afraid. I've been driving "premium" lease for more than 20years, but am now getting my Hyundai Sante Fe delivered in two weeks; would get very worried as German car maker looking at what the Coreans are doing - see all reviews on eg. Hyundai Ionic5....
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. A very nice 👍 looking Family SUV
My wife and I went out in a new Glc300 diesel premium the wife loved tbh it will be a once in a life time purchase spending North of 50k is a bit unnerving .
Wow I love the colour and design.
my dream car looks awesome
please do one for the GLE coupe
When I say Hey Mercedes I am too hot it says I know I blame your parents🙄
The background music for the first 1:30 sounds a lot like the BMW how-to videos 🤔
We switched from a Lexus to one of these with no regrets. Highly recommend it.
Proof that Rebecca would look good in anything
Same interior as a 17/18 model year E class.
Can you reach the pedals this time, last model wasn't great for short poeple
umm how tall are u...for a perspective of ur size to the car
nice one jasckson
i guess heavily updated interior design is coming according to new c class...
My wife wanted me to get a GLC so test drove one just to keep her happy. Did not like it at all. The ride was jittery on the motorway. It did settle down after a while. Town driving was OK. Went for the E-class instead and that is far more enjoyable to drive
E pace is class below, F pace is in this segment. You also need to realise that Volvo Xc60 and Lexus also offer Premium products in this sector 👍
Volvo never gets the love
Volvo and lexus do more for me than the Germans, I find the German rivals phenomenally bland
Have an RX450h F Sport, just returned to London from Lands End, great car and fewer on the road than these..
O forgot to mention I have had W204 C Class in AMG CDi trim..good car but not the 'mercedes experience' that the older Mercedes had back in the 1970's or 80's. Like the look of some of them, bit like the BMW range but would not have one again.
GLC is way better
@@dimention6600 depends on what you mean by better... spec, price, reliability, resale.. image.. Engineering. Cash test safety.. ranking in the world... sales, faults, etc etc.
Beautiful 😍😍 love the car and you look amazing
GLC is perfect size car ! Quality, nice, indestructible engin (2.2diesel).
For today, have an 10 ! sit, plz.
Rebecca; on what planet is 20" rims more" sporty" than comparable 18 or 19"? Bigger wheels only produces problems like more road noice, more expensive, more problems during heavy rain, more vibrations and so on...
Wow 🤩🥰 what a colour 👌🏻
Still love the GLC ! 😃
Mine comes this week but Coupe
In addition to comments below, the computer is showing 56.5mpg (UK) for petrol and 156 mpge. Distance travelled 8,207 miles of which 4, 479 miles electric only. Driving time, 14 days 10 hours 43 mins total of which 10 days, 20 hours 36 mins electric. In other words, 55% of all driving miles is on electric and 71% of drive time is on electric. Amazing economy.
Nice !
But does it 'crab' across the surface at low speed like many RHD GLCs?
I owned 2 GLC in the last 3 years - a 250d and a 350d and never experienced 'crabbing' in either of those vehicles. I too was concerned of what I heard and read of the issue you are referring to. Mercedes have fixed the issue as far as I can tell. A few years back, Merc replaced the tyres, which were attributed to the anomaly free of charge. But I never had any issues with the GLCs I had.
@@terryantony1149 that’s interesting. I believe that it is a problem with RHD cars and is related to the front suspension geometry. The scrubbing can be reduced by using different types of tyres but Mercedes Australia do not acknowledge that there is a problem. There has been a lot written from disgruntled owners about this issue and other Mercedes models also suffer from it including the C class.
@@davidperry3531 mine were RHD vehicles too in the UK and I enquired at the dealership about this very issue. The dealerahip admitted that was the case but assured me that it was no longer a problem. As I said, I didn't have any adverse experience with the GLC.
I love this car would have it in red though
Just ordered mine 300de in designo hyacinth red metallic !! I agree love the colour 👍
Gorgeous.. Well the car aint bad either
This model is on its way out in a few months
X3 is currently the best SUV. GLC is a beautiful vehicle, but outdated and new model expected next year. Better to wait.
I'd take this over the BMW.
I’ve got a question, is it reliable enough to last about 20 years and is it over engineered or it is just perfect.
Who keeps a car for 20 years now a days lol
@@nancyrivera1620 good point, although having one is convenient just incase the new main car broke down.
Can’t see why it would beat an Lexus NK
The Mercedes badge means land sea and air.
Love the car and I love you
.... my friends all drive Porsches. I must make amends.
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a…..
M
They need to get rid of that stuck on aftermarket tablet display
It won’t break the budget, it’s only £57,000 what world do you live in?
It's an absolute joke when the average annual UK salary is sub 30k🤣
Me gusta el auto para keren
Nice car. Too bad the steering wheel is on the wrong side.
Yeah its okay Rebecka but sadly will not fit in my parking space, as too many oversized SUV's already exist, making life somewhat difficult.
im here for Rebecca
MANAGEABLE £57,000!!! YEAH SURE!!!
Too big for me... I like that lovely blue though... Beautiful.
Rebecca sei una donna incantevole⚘
BMW X3 2022. Comes with 4 years 50k free Maintainence it’s only $45000
And better ride. I had the worst experience. With benz. The tires and the sunroof. Wait till 2022 glc It will be new design ..
"I am too hot" .. yes you are m'am !!
Drove this, xc60 and Tiguan. Merc was the most boring design wise and worst to drive out the 3. VW was just all around solid and looks stunning whilst the volvo was just uber comfortable and oozed class throughout. Merc is just a badge these days imo
Tiguan? Looks stunning? You had your eyes checked recently mate?
Good quality car, however not that good to the environment!! In this era vehicles should be much more fuel efficient.
Screwed on Number Plates...who the hell did that.......
Volvo XC60 looks better than GLC . It is also Europe second best selling premium SUV too.
the xc60 is so ugly..
@@HH-io9vh Exactly, the GLC is so UGLY and OLD LOOKING.
Rebecca: Hey Mercedes
Mercedes: How may I help you?
Rebecca: I’m too hot
Mercedes: Yes you are ;)
Vehicles like this divide opinion like no others - some clearly see them as desirable - others regard them as big, ugly and completely pointless - each to their own I suppose - at least we can all agree on how good a reviewer Rebecca is - she manages to make the most boring cars seem interesting.
Just got one of these as a loaner. So disappointing. Mercedes nowadays don’t seem able to make a car that feels like a quality item. They may look good and but they don’t feel premium. It’s feels just above Ford Focus level. Plastics and switchgear etc. couple that with noisy engines and a ride that is crashy… Cripes. BMW and Audi are running rings around merc for quality interior build right now. Why don’t merc get it?
Whilst the interior looks nice, the packaging seems poor, especially given the size of the vehicle.
I had one and it couldn't be further from the truth. 2 up with 2 child seats in the back and a full boot, it done the job and you don't need anything bigger.
@@DeanoEV135 you must travel light! Less than 400 litres boot capacity in a vehicle this size is poor. My old 62 plate Civic had a bigger boot! Was yours non-hybrid?
Nah I only had the 220d, 550L of boot space.
@@DeanoEV135 that's a lot more like it!
@@whitemoor66 it's not even the space, think my old Mondeo had more capacity by volume but the shape is big and wide so dead easy to use it all.
No one will buy the hybrid with such a tiny boot! Absolutely ridiculous!!
Great car until it decides to randomly not start 🙄
Well, where do you start. With Rebecca so eye catching you'd of probably have missed the horrendous paint finish on this car, machine must of had an off day.
All these comments. I wonder how many actually own this car.
Don*t mind the car. Rebecca is the best! :D
Sorry but DS7 Crossback is just better.
Tested this thing including Q5 and X3, and its way better , much better fit and finish more equipment excellent ride quality even on 20" wheels so no need for expensive air suspension. It fails only if You want 4 wheel drive cause You need to go for hybrid for that . Much more space inside the cabin, electrically reclining seats, massage / cooled /heated seats and much more.
On top of it all it cost less and You will be noticed in the sea of other simpletons .
competion?... u must be joking.
No storage for a banana ?
Think I’ll stay with Lexus…
😜
I’ll choose the BMW X3 over this!
0:13 why whole family? I'm in my 40's single I just want one. Don't need a 'family' to buy one.
"AND the big enaugh to fit all familly in." AND key word- AND. AND = aswell/
too
also
besides
plus
If they say about boot capacity that you can fit for example 3 4 5 suitcases you complain that you travel with only one?
That tablet on dashboard look like ‘90s tom tom! Horrible. Sorry Merc, but the car needs a 100% new model not just a tacky refresh.
Hey Mercedes I am too hot 🔥.. Ruby 💕 you surely are that
X3 is much much better
Even GLC AMG would be,i choose Reb is more...!!!
Or you could buy a Lexus or a Volvo and use the money you saved (in repairs and depreciation) for something else.
Ouch!
lexus and volvo aren’t as good to drive
Did mark get her pregnant again
Fails to stand out
I like this car but Mercedes are so high maintenance. All sorts of things can go wrong with these cars, German cars in general.
Drop that stupid background music !!! , Stupid unnecessary music trend that is on nearly all videos. Most times I never watch all though.
It looks like an Indian taxi! It has a turban top and a nose like a bureaucrat, and not a successful one!!! It actually looks like a boring Mahindra, and no doubt with Merc penchant for electrifying everything poorly, it'll be as producctive!
Mercedes Benz today are not the well built vehicles they once were. They have a poor reputation for reliability and some models can't even be bothered to use their own engines. Some models use Renault engines as used in the much cheaper Dacia Duster. Buy a Lexus instead.
Sorry Becca, there is really no reason for this... they are expensive, worst to drive and inefficient...
Drive ace, loaded with great technology... not for handy for offload as well as motorway. Good economy and performance plus no waiting for charging...
Crap car. Overpriced. Ugly. Parts are outrageous.
Is she trying to hide something under that loose fitting dress 🤔🤰🏻
Pregnancy?
Almost any Range Rover would be a better choice, and (marginally) more reliable than Mercedes!!!!!!
@Z Malek haha - Kind of my point - Mercedes even worse in my opinion, plus I prefer the more coherent interior design of the RR. The Mercedes looks like some sort of casino/brothel inside :-)
The emissions will irritate but not as much as you
