I had forgotten how BRILLIANT Bruce's solo stuff was. Namely Accident Of Birth and The Chemical Wedding. I've been a Maiden fan since 1992. But his solo stuff fucking kills too.
The similariteis are subtle. What Maiden (primaily Steve Harris) took from King Crimson is a progressive style. They took the progressive rock style of things like odd time signatures, signature changes, extended songs and lyrical content from bands like King Crimson and matallisized it.
@Creepingdeath84 I suppose both are possible. I only know that when I play this song on the guitar I have to use my 7 string in drop A. I also heard that when they were recording the album they actually put bass strings on their guitars to tune them low enough, but it would also make sense to use some kind of pitch altering effect to save time when playing live! Either way its a fucking awesome song!
@AWMJoeyjoejoe For the rest of the concert, Roy Z's Les Paul is in dropped D and Adrian's Jackson is in Dropped D, while Roy Z's Gibson V is in standard and Adrian's Les Paul is in standard. In this video, they're using the LP and Jackson, so maybe it's dropped D with some kind of pitch altering effect, unless they have identical alternate guitars just for this song.
I've never heard him say so, but I have to thing that the title of the song is a reference to the band King Crimson, who were a big influence on Iron Maiden.
I agree with you, Accident is FUCKING AMAZING, but I just listened too much of it. Something I realized is that Roy Z songs are heavy, but still comercial. Skunkworks wasn't that heavy, but it still had that B-Sides feeling, if you know what I mean. All in all, I love everything Bruce sings. He has some kind of Midas Touch.
thank you metal134 for the reply, although that left me with many more questions, like, "King Crimson was a big influence on Maiden"? Really? I never saw the similarities. As for the alchemical stuff, it seems pretty vague, but I believe you, knowing the occult interests of Bruce Dickinson.
Well, it's sort've multi layered. King Crimson was a big influence on Maiden, so I'm sure that's part of it. But mainly, it's an alchemical term (which is, I'm sure, where King Crimson also aquired the name). In alchemy, the King in Crimson is a reference to Satan, but there's a little more to it than that and I'm not well versed enough in alchemy to remember it.
@leandroprete Isn't "Tears Of The Dragon" on that one? I love that song. But I've heard "Skunkworks" isn't that good. And when "Accident Of Death" first came out...a review that I read described it as "The best Maiden album since Powerslave. Have I got your attention? Good." So that's the one I got. And Accident fucking slays. "Omega," "Darkside Of Aquarius," "The Road To Hell," etc. Oh man, what an album.
@brnleague99 Man, you GOTTA listen to Skunkworks. I've listened to those you said and grew tired of them, but I never get tired of listening to Solar Confinement or Back From the Edge. Give it a try and tell me what you think.
I know, it's brilliant, I'd never question that, it's just like, it's a little "artificial", if you know what I mean. Maybe Roy Z is really a Heavy Metal genius, but I think when Bruce was doing his work without him, his music range was broad, and when Roy, and specially when Adrian joined, it turned into some kind of British Heavy Metal again. I'll never stop loving all his albums, but his old songs sound better to me nowadays. Anyway, it's all FUCKIN GREAT!!!
Adrian's solo just fucking rules, the way he starts it makes it one of my favorite solos.
One of the best metal albums of all 90's
I Was There 1999 Via Funchal in Sao Paulo too..... was a great Show !! COME BACK BRUCE SOLO !!!!
Yes!!! I was there....the best show of my life!!
BRUCE FOREVER!!!
i wish iron maiden would play this live. If it was an IM song and not just Bruce's, it'd be one of their best
I had forgotten how BRILLIANT Bruce's solo stuff was. Namely Accident Of Birth and The Chemical Wedding. I've been a Maiden fan since 1992. But his solo stuff fucking kills too.
Bruce is the best vocalist, my idol in metal

Great
wot a sick song, pretty heavy.
Rock in Brasil.
Is this from the Chemical Wedding album? Good song, awesome solo's!
There were two nights at Sao Paulo... the video was filmed one night, and the cd the other night
I've never heard him say so, but I have to thing that the title of the song is a reference to the band King Crimson, who were a big influence on Iron Maiden.
adrian is proof that you dont need to be super fast to sound great
Fantastic!
He so fucking cute!
@AWMJoeyjoejoe Yeah I read that too about the bass strings. Agreed though, wicked tune!!

@pilapilao He says: Scream to me São Pauloooo! Yes, i guess that show was in São Paulo! :)
I agree with you, Accident is FUCKING AMAZING, but I just listened too much of it.

How can you be tired of Accident Of Birth? It's brilliant? "The Ghost Of Cain" and "Omega" are brilliant!
He said "Scream for me SÃO PAULO". But not in this night.
@ColinMaiden95 Adrian is called H.
i love the galloping, just like madien
@K2nsl3r
No direct connection, it's just a cool name for a band or a song.
@Yeah the studio one is really good. Adrian is the king tho and a tone perfectionist =)
man, pure metal, who fking cares about "doom or trash" ?
Z screws up the solo, but he's still great.
Adrian's tone is unmatched, nevertheless.
I don´t know where this intuition came from, but i allways figured that the Crimson King is the devil.
@theheretic11
its dropped down to A
what, if any, is the connection to king crimson? I'm puzzled.

I think this show isnt in Sao Paulo...i have the Sao paulo concert and his pants are differente...
"The Darkside Of Aquarius" ftw. ;)
@gimnopingado ahah és qual deles? o q tem a camisola d maiden?
@brnleague99 Man, you GOTTA listen to Skunkworks. I've listened to those you said and grew tired of them, but I never get tired of listening to Solar Confinement or Back From the Edge. Give it a try and tell me what you think.
y did it sound like adrian was playing the solo to songs from brave new world?
@graemecrackers I dont think so...i am almost sure that was only one show.
God, Roy fucks up the solo big time
Uh, tocko is right. Adrian Smith played on this record.
@pilapilao So why would Bruce say "Scream for me São Paulo" ? o.0
@TremCPS the one on the album live it sounds really bad =(. Adrian is the king tho =)

No shit Shirlock.
He so fucking cute!
