  • This week I ride the Myer Creek Rd. between Healesville and Toolangi on my 2006 Benelli 1130 TnT Sport. This road is located in the Yarra Valley which is North East of Melbourne in the state of Victoria, Australia.

    Sound advice! I had a farmer in a troopie with trailer attached pull out in front of me from a farm driveway on a LH corner in 2016 while on my brand new Triumph T-120. Guy before me had already cleared. It was just spidy-sense that made me reevaluate and brake. Would have been a sure and certain fatal otherwise. Rural roads are not devoid of conflicting traffic! I had enough near misses on Norton Commandos in my youth to last a lifetime.
    That engine soundtrack is just glorious and I’m now able to experience it myself.

    100% agree with your road safety advice. Riding with that attitude has more than once saved me from a prang!

    Experienced something similar today on my way to Gloucester on the Bucketts Way. Your point about saving ten tenths for the race track is spot on.

    Absolutely, ride for the road. Respect!
    If you did this route a few times, what is your favorite bike for it and why?

      I don't have any particular favourite bike, it changes from week to week. The Benelli 1130 TnT is the fastest on this road and requires a lot of concentration and throttle control to ride it quickly. The Moto Guzzi Le Mans 1000 on the other hand requires a very different technique. It needs a lot of engine braking entering corners to keep it stable when you slow down. Whereas the little Gilera Saturno just flies through corners. It's light, nimble and even though it's only a 350 it's surprisingly quick.

    What is your rear suspension setting, i cant find factory settings this bike anywhere.?

      The settings are in the TnT 1130 owners manual.

      I turn the Compression damping down to the minimum on my '06 Sport front and back for the street. Much more comfortable over bad roads.

    Mike I’m considering buying Benelli trek 1130 , any advice ? Is it hard to find the parts ? Who would you recommend for service ? I test ride it and felt in love of the position and engine ...

    • @MikesMachines
      @MikesMachines  Před rokem +1

      I've never tried to get parts locally. Maniac Motors in Germany was the go to place for spares for the Tornado, TnT & Trek in the past.
      maniacmotors.de
      I've always done my own servicing so I can't recommend any service centres. The Benelli forum is the place to ask but it doesn't get as much traffic as it used to.

    How is it to maintain such bike? I am checking few options for next session and TNT Titanium from first owner is an option for 10k€. We do not have a dealer nor service provider in the country (sadly) but Italy or Austria is and 1-2 hour away. If Titanium will pass, I am checking other options on mobile.de. Including 160HP.
    What does this power button do? Does it increase the power onto 160HP from 137HP?
    Thanks.

      Parts can be difficult to obtain for these earlier Benellis. Manic Motors in Germany can help source parts I've found.
      www.maniacmotors.de
      There's also a good supply of used parts from Italy on ebay but they can be expensive.
      Mine has been very reliable since the initial bugs were ironed out of it during the first year on ownership. Nothing really has gone wrong with it for the last 12 years. The handling is excellent, the low down torque is similar to a V-Twin and the top end power delivery is like a 4. It's the perfect weekend bike in my opinion but it doesn't like sitting in traffic so not so great as a commuter.
      The power button switches between two independent maps. From the factory "out" is full power and "in" is reduced power. The manual doesn't list by how much. I've been told that you can load your own maps into either position.

      I had no Problems what so ever with obtaining Parts. Alex in Nürnberg is a good adress for Proprietary stuff like Engine Parts, mappings or Original Fairings. Everything else has a Partsnumber. For instance: the ignition coils costs at Benelli far over 200euros. Alex has coils for Little over 100eu i guess. I bought mine from psa (Peugot, Citroën) for 18euros. Same goes for the tps. Also theres benelliforum with Tricks and Tipps from a Great Community and the Benelligod Alex himself. The TNT is the starfighter of motorcycles, poorly serviced and neglected it bites your ass. But well looked after its the best ride in the World imho

    Hey Mike - do you do any group riding? Am looking for some riders who are familiar with the Healesville area and are not high speed nutbags

    • @MikesMachines
      @MikesMachines  Před 2 lety

      I haven't over the past few years. Mainly because of friends moving up country or giving up riding. I do try to get out most weekends though even if it's just a short run to Kinglake and back for coffee.

    One of your subscribers here... Agree with your comments about toning it down on the roads... I also try and keep things sane for that reason and had a very similar incident recently where I live in Sydney. czcams.com/video/5X-_CCOX6FM/video.html and yes keeping my speed down helped but also because it didn't quite happen on the apex.
