    G’day Mike, I know this is an old video but it’s one I watched before I pulled the trigger on one of these last week. Pretty sure it’s you who gave me good advice on the forum today too. The bike’s gone from being a rigid bump machine to a very compliant ride after tooling around with the Marzocchi forks. Haven’t touched the rear shock yet and possible may not. All other settings remain the same and it’s just fine.
    I guess you don’t buy a bike with ‘R’ in the designation if you’re after a cruiser ride. It’s a bit harsher than my 1050 Sprint GT but turns in quick and is ridiculously able to take the desired line.
    Now to deal with a tachometer that thinks 4000 is 7000! 👍🏻

    Great vid Mike just a suggestion having had a Tre (which was always going to be a 1130 but was made a 900 due to WSB rules). Use the revs more you don't need to change gear so often as the engine is so flexible.

      The 1130 has a huge amount of low down torque compared with the 900 and just likes cruising between 3000 - 5000 I've found. Over 6000 it gets crazy pretty quickly which is fab on the right road when you're in the mood :)

    I have 2008 tnt 1130 same color patern , love at first sight , this bike is eating curves like nothing , beating super bikes. its torgue and power is brilliant, the design is unique and she needs to be taken care of like everywoman. I will never sell this and when i cannot ride it i will drain it and keep it in my living room (kidding) safe rides.

    Great review Mike! I've watched all your vids and I'm seriously considering an 1130. This might seem weird but the only thing I'm concerned about is the under seat exhaust covering my clothes and backpack in petrol fumes. This is why I sold my last bike. I'd arrive smelling extremely flammable! Is that an issue with the benelli? Thanks

      The early fuel maps would cover you in fumes but I haven't noticed any real issues with petrol fumes since the mapping was updated by the factory some years back. But you are right. This is a problem with under seat exhausts, particularly Italian ones!

      I'm embarrassed to say that it's not that many. I've put close to 40,000 km on the bike in that time. I don't commute so those are all weekend sporting kilometres.

    I have the opportunity to pick up a very low mileage example of a 08 year. I have BST CF wheels on my Aprilia RSVR... Do they make wheels that will fit this bike?

      I seem to remember that Dymag made carbon wheels that fitted the TnT. Unfortunately the TnT is rarely listed when looking for aftermarket parts these days.

      The early TnTs had a number of factory updates but later models including the Trek had these issues ironed out. I've had many years of trouble free riding apart from a couple of minor issues. The biggest problem with these bikes is the lack of decent dealers and service centers. Parts aren't a real issue but can be difficult to locate at times.

The trek is 2010 model so is in the improvement pieces..Right?The guy told me that the only problem he had was the relay.. Yes, the problem is the costumer service.. Here in Germany as well.. I think I will give a try.. I love this bike.. I will have and a Japanese for a back up.. Where are you located? Thanks again!

      Yes a 2010 model should be ok and I'm in Australia.

    I’ve seen some 1130TNTs that appear to have a hydraulic clutch, and others that seem to be cable, with no reservoir visible at all. Did they do both kinds?

      Yes, the R160 models were fitted with a hydraulic clutch. There was also an aftermarket conversion available I think from Maniac Motors in Germany.

      @@MikesMachines What is the R160 model? Is yours cable and are you happy with it or would you prefer hydraulic? Personally, i favor hydraulic. More fuss, but more "feel" and tunability in my opinion. My RSVR has all ISR levers and masters....

      The R160 was the last of the TnTs and fitted with a higher spec engine. The cable clutch is very heavy on my Sport. The hydraulic clutch is much better I'm told.

    Hey Mike, I want to get my Hands on a 1130. the only thing I'm worried of is my height, is the benelli good for tall people?

      I can't see any problem, the seating position is quite roomy. I'm just over 6ft. and I have no complaints apart from the hard seat. However it would be best to sit on one if you can before purchasing to make sure.

    Were these engines made in Italy or China back then?
    All the current 2021 Benelli twins are Chinese or Thai manufactured.

      The 900 & 1130 Tornados and the 1130 & 899 TnTs were all Italian made including the engines.

    Hi Mike, i'm looking to buy a 2006 1130. I drove it and under 3000rpm it runs like I'm in a too high gear even in first gear, bumpy and unstable. Do you recognise this problem and do you know how to solve? Thanks for your video!

      It could be caused by a number of things. It could be misfiring on one cylinder at low rpm which would most likely be a plug or stick coil. The center stick coil sits under the air box drain hole and is often the one effected. Another cause could be the stepper motor assembly sticking. This regulates the air bypass system used for cold starts. The bike will run very rich and foul plugs if it fails. Early factory EFI maps were also notorious for lousy low speed running. But then it might just need a service and tune.

      @@MikesMachines thank you for your response. 2 years ago the bike was serviced and after that ran about 1000km till now so chances are the stepper motor got stuck, no black smoke thought, but above 3000rpm it runs perfectly. I've watched the other video you posted about the tnt and that's very helpfull in case I'll buy the bike. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge.

      Hi Steve, has your TnT had the clutch basket and starter upgrades done? There was an issue with the primary drive gears binding on some of the early bikes when they got hot. The starter motor was also upgraded at some point to provide better cranking torque. I also seem to remember that some owners upsized the earth and starter electrical cables. The Benelli owners forum has more info on this issue.

    Hey Mike, i'm considering to buy TnT. In here where i live there's an official benelli dealer, and i saw there's 1130 cafe racer and TnT 899, i don't know what year are they, but i hope they relatively new unit (2010-ish). i want the 899 not the 1130 because how hot and the traffic is just bad, so i don't want to risk overheating, i read articles, reviews, and forum that the 899 is more reliable than the 1130, and i read that the motorcycle itself are the same between 1130 and 899, and the difference is just the cc, and 899 is more reliable because it's come out later than the 1130. is it true, and how reliable is 1130 and 899 if you use maybe car or something imagery.

      There is little difference between the 899 & the 1130 apart from the dash and capacity. Whilst early models like mine had a lot of issues which were fixed under warranty. The later bikes (both 899 & 1130) had these updates from new. However in saying that I've had no mechanical problems with my early model TnT for over 15 years now. In regards to overheating, that only really effected the Tornado and the first year TnT. By 2006 the fans had been relocated to the outside of the radiators. Mine has never overheated but is doesn't like heavy traffic though. So I wouldn't call it a city bike. It's more at home on country roads. This is where it shines. If you want a comparison with a modern naked, I'd say that the 1130 TnT feels a lot like the bigger brother to the MV 800 Dragster on the road. Now the bad news. Parts can be harder to obtain for these models than the later Chinese produced bikes. The Benelli forum is the best place to go for advice from other owners on parts or other issues.

      @@MikesMachines one more question about the reliability and problems. You said that you have the TnT for more than 15 years now, in your experience is it equivalent to MV Agusta's reliability or Japanese reliability? I've watch some of MV Agusta's reviews expecialy from my country, and they said that MV Agusta is like a ferrari, the more you ride/drive them, the more reliable they become. I know this is a stupid question, but because i've never have a 'big' bike, so sorry for the stupid question. By the way i've riden some 'big' bikes like CBR 1000, etc so i know how to ride and how they feel but i've never own them because how expensive they are in here. For example the 1130, maybe now you can get them new, like 11.000 $ in Australia but here, its like 20-30.000 $ equivalent. And if you wondering where i from, im just from your neighbour country, Indonesia.

      I've never owned a modern MV so I can't really compare it with the Benelli in regards to maintenance. However I wouldn't expect either to be as trouble free as a Japanese bike. If you want hassle free ownership, stick with a Japanese bike. But if you really want a bike that stands out from the crowd then perhaps an Italian bike is for you. Just be aware that ownership may have some heartache.

      ​@@MikesMachinesHi Mike! Love your videos. My TNT started to sound like it's running on 2 cilinders, but all 3 headers become hot! Most right one (facing the front wheel) seems to warm up slower though. Any idea what this might be? It sounds weird!

    Hi Mike, I’m looking at an 1130 Tre K as a turner to replace my Aprilia Falco. I love the Ape but the riding position is a little cramped and the bike is long in the tooth now. I’ve seen lots of moans about the fuel consumption and as the Falco gets about 180miles/289km to the warning light between fills I’m just a little concerned that I’m constantly going to be looking for fuel on the Benelli. Could you give any opinion on the Tre in this regard? I think the TreK has an 18litre tank whereas the Falco carries 21.

      No, I never felt the need to. I've never had any problems with starting the bike. I do have a glass mat style of battery installed though and I find they give a higher starting current.

      I got myself a century racer 1130..I'm experiencing hot start problem especially the fan motor is engaged.

      The original "Hot Start Problem" was related to a clearance issue with the primary drive gear on the clutch on some early models. Yours does sound like an electrical or battery issue. Probably worth doing the battery cable upgrade if a new battery doesn't solve it. I've had good experiences with Moto Bat glass mat batteries so far and they are cheaper than the big name brands. It's also well worth visiting the Benelli forum though it doesn't get the traffic it once did.
