Some tips and hacks I use to deal with noisy neighbours when leaving on my own as a first time buyer in the UK in a UK flat by using dehumidifiers and ear plugs.
    PRODUCTS MENTIONED:
Mpow ear plugs (best earplugs for sleeping imo):

    Bose noise masking sleepbuds

Cheap dehumidifier, they're actually a bit more expensive that I thought. This one is the cheapest on Argos at £49.99.

Try Orange noise 10 hr video on CZcams played over a speaker and turn up your subwoofer. It covers low frequency noises like stomping or bass. I think it’s pink, brown and white noise... but there are others you could experiment with. I have also played this with another little sound machine to cover higher frequency noises.

You are 100% correct there. I had approx 2 and a half years of next to no sleep due to an upstairs neighbour (who is due to be evicted because she has not paid her rent for a numberer of months now - so an overall nightmare of an individual). She would stamp around, drop heavy items above my bedroom from 9pm to 6am everyday (non-stop - being constant), then walk away to the back of the flat where her bedroom is located, for at maximum of an hour from 6am to 7am (if I was lucky) then come back again and repeat it all over again throughout the day throughout the flat above. I could hear her banging and stamping non-stop except for 1 hour at the most. I became very ill with shingles in March as my body couldn't take the sleep deprivation and huge level of stress from her doing it anymore. I suspect she is ADHD, autistic, brain damaged (not meaning to sound non PC, but everyone I know has commented on it due to her appearance who have seen her and my neighbours as I have explode a few times verbally which they have heard) because I questioned why she didn't need any sleep. She has ruined my chances of finding work, and at one point afterwards getting shingles, as I have small ear canals that makes wearing ear plugs painful, found some moldex ear plugs that were smaller and fit my ears, so I wore those throughout the day when I wasn't putting sound reducing headphones on my head. I wore the ear plugs as I wanted some sleep and quiet to apply for jobs, but then I got ear infections in both ears due to "prolonged usage" as stated by the nurse, and advised to air my ears after about every three hours until the pain cleared up in my ears and then use the plugs to sleep again. I was given a strong ear spray to squirt in both ears too. I'm also waiting for a hospital referral due to hearing loss in my ear due to the infections occurring. Since she has been issued an eviction letter, she has stopped doing it to the degree that it was going on before, but she is still unacceptably noisy and I wish for her to move out soon. Due to how she is though, and how she has no money, I expect her to prolong the time spent there until the bailiffs come in to physically remove her. I went to all the places I could for help, for over a year, CAB first, housing associations, council etc and was redirected elsewhere and everywhere could not help me that I tried. You are spot on. It really has affected my health. I have been the most ill I have ever been over the course of the time she has lived above my flat. Her kitchen is above my bedroom so there is no necessity for her to be in there for the times of the day when normal people need their sleep. The amount of stress is creates on the body is horrific.

Things that have helped me are a fan, dehumidifier, a white noise app played through headband-earphones, silicon earplugs (not all at the same time, haha). Things that never work are speaking with the neighbours nicely, leaving them nice notes, leaving them annoyed notes, yelling at them, telling their landlord. Something my auntie and uncle once did was put a heavy metal CD on repeat, turn their speakers to the wall, put it on full volume and go out to work for the day - their neighbours never kept them awake ever again!

I have extensive knowledge of bad neighbours so I can say I have the experience to help people, one mistake you can make is complaining to the housing, the moment the housing contacts your neighbours that's it! they will get worse, think of it this way and you will understand, its much like a fisherman, he sits around and throws his line into the water with the bait on the hook, waiting until he feels something grab the hook then he reels it in, its the same with a bad neighbour, so if you do not bite the bait the bad neighbour will leave you alone! do not even give them a sniff that you do not like what they are doing, it is different for music though, in this case you do need to say something, talk to neighbour first, if no joy go to housing if no joy then record them, get an incident diary, or make one! date and time it, add what is going on and how it is affecting you, might be hard to do but its going to help you in the end, once you have a big diary and loads of evidence then contact your council, they wil bring out a noise monitor and well they will be up in court, and of course this is against any housing tenancy agreement so they will be kicked out or should be, keep your cool, I know its hard, actually very difficult, just use the diary and any noise cancelling headphones as a weapon, a big fan in your bedroom is another good plan for blocking out sound whilst keeping you cool, all the best =)

TOP TIP FOR SLEEPING WITH NOISY NEIGHBOURS: headband with speakers in. You will look and feel ridiculous but they mostly work.
I used to use ear plugs or ear bud type headphones but after getting awful ear infections, I had to find an alternative.
I have a gf that snores incredibly loud and we have drug users & drinkers that sit right under our bedroom window and outside our flat door. We also have people living below us that do very noisy DIY until the early hours, every single night without fail.
The headband headphones aren’t perfect but they drown out most of the noise and I can set an alarm to go off through them though I took a fair bit of trial and error to find an alarm that works through head phones.
The downside is that if you’re worried about getting broken into, chances are you won’t hear it if you do.
Good luck everyone. I hope whatever noise you’re experiencing stops soon

If you have noisy neighbours who play their music loud enough to interfere with the enjoyment of the unit you're in that you're _paying_ for, do what you can to find out if they have a blutooth stereo. We are in the midst of doing that by seeing what devices show up on our cell phone's blutooth system and then connecting to each and every one of them until we hear what we hope is a "What the fuck?!" or some variant of it come from our neighbour next to us.
That's when we'll know what his blutooth device is.

Thanks for this. When i first moved into my house we didn't hear our neighbours but a new family have moved in and it's not great.
We hear their conversations from our bedroom, they constantly slam doors when moving around the house to the extent our standing light, tv and windows vibrate.
I get up for work at 4am but i can never have an early night because the vibrations come through the wall to the bed.
I sleep with ear plugs now and don't hear my girlfriend coming in but hear the neighbours moving room to room.
I'm thinking of writing a polite note with me first saying if we're too loud call me because we can hear them and don't want to disturb them. Or something along those lines. Any tips or suggestions would be brilliant!

Cool video. The "wax" earplugs you mentioned are also available in silicon btw and I can tell you they are supposed to be "on ear", so you dont actually push them into your ear canal, but rather form it so it stays on top of that (outer ear). That way it blocks sounds from getting into the ear canal. The ones I got really work well and are not as taxing to the ears as they are NOT to be used inside the ear canal. Maybe try, they're good.

I use the silicone putty ear plugs, it moulds to your ear hole, sealing the edges and it cuts a lot of noise out. Foam ones aren’t sealing every bit of my ear, and sometimes fall out once they’ve expanded again. Look up the putty ones, they’re for swimming usually but I think they’re better. You don’t form a tube and push it in the ear canal, you just use it flat and seal the hole. Like using plumber putty on a leaky pipe, you get the idea

For sleep, I use silicone putty, then the defenders, and I have to sleep on my back, but I’ve recently got a pillow with a hole in it so I can fit my ear defenders in and sleep on my side. It sounds ridiculous but that’s how loud these idiot neighbours are, and this works for me.
When I’m just at home, I use them on top of wireless small ear buds. As soon as they get in and start the noise next door, I put my ear buds in, put on CZcams, Spotify, Audible, whatever, and put the defenders on top. A massive difference, I almost can’t hear them at all, which is a miracle. Right this minute, I’m in the middle of getting these idiots removed, me and other neighbours have teamed up to sort it out, legally with housing lawyers, I pray we’re successful.
Try the ear defenders on top of putty and/or ear buds, it’s made a massive difference for me. I looked up my amazon orders and YANKUIRUI was the ones I got, £15.99

Doesn't necessarily work in your scenario as you have more than one neighbour, but only one problematic one - but if any of you live in a terraced house and get nowhere speaking to the inconsiderate neighbours, take up drumming right on the party wall. Full acoustic. Become very passionate, strictly between 7am and 11pm. Note when they wake up, what time they get home from work and when they try to (lol) go to sleep, as these are the most impactful times to play.
Always start as loud as possible and when the council inevitably get involved, make tiny adjustments like playing for a few minutes less each day and purchasing terrible soundproofing, for when they ask for evidence of effort made. Key is not to start with any soundproofing or deadening devices on the kit because you can always work down once the complaint is made, but never up.
It took a few months before they moved out and I did keep drumming, but replaced the acoustic with an electric and did the soundproofing job properly. Turned out drumming was actually a lot of fun. Bullies can't handle it when the tables turn.

I really think this problem should be taught in school for adolescent kids so they can grow up being more considerate youngsters.
3 of my housemates who are in just around 18-25 really enjoy having party at home (well I guess it's cheaper that way) and have little to no consideration to the other tenants. Loud music, dancing, talking loudly, singing, smoking, you name it.
I don't get why you would be so loud up to the point that someone has to complain right to your face in order for you to stop the loudness (or not at all?), especially someone who attends tertiary education. I understand that education may not have anything to do with kindness or living in harmony with other people. But still, it is quite disappointed that a person who has studied up to that level and has bad manners. What is the point of education if students can't become a better person?
That's why, parents, please teach your kids to be considerate. And from now on if possible, I'll voice this problem so hopefully they could include this topic in school soon.

My neighbor is not only is a 31yr old self rightious prick but also blasts kareoke and steros terrorizing my 4yr old but i now have her help me do the loud house work to drown him out and he always leaves over it haha and it defuses my girls tantrums and fears of loud noise since she is sensitive to music and certain noises so the vacuum and washing machine go for 30-45 minutes then he leaves but is alwyas doing loud music he is rude and wont listen to the landlord so that will be his penance from us he made his own normal now haha not sorry and im not getting into trouble as my landlord is allowing me to do so haha
