- My name is Kevin. I hope you enjoy my videos of Dumaguete, Philippines where I retired early and live by the ocean. I often host beach parties with expats, and their Filipina wives or friends, where we swim and snorkel with colorful reef fish and corals and enjoy the island views. Please join me in exploring this beautiful area including day trips to waterfalls and mountain lookouts and island hopping. I will also show you the local infrastructure including restaurants, markets, medical facilities, etc. Please like and subscribe for more of this content.
Moving to the Dumaguete area next month, great video.

I will be in your area in several weeks. Hope to see you and have a coffee.
Sure, let me know when you’re in town 😉
your vlog is an example that a raw unfiltered unedited vlog is more interesting than the old techniques of over-editing with intros, outros, vlogger's face, fake laugh tracks, and shameless pinoy baiting techniques. I got too much time giving these comments and I think you deserve it cos I love to see ur channel grow brother!
Well, thank you very much Sam! I appreciate it

@TooMuchTimeonmyHands65 thanks as well for sharing..
You fleetingly showed the security officer at the immigration office, one morning i arrived to extend my visa,i greeted him in visaya and thanked him as well for the application, that mans persona changed in a second,he bent over backwards for me,kindness goes a long way in the Philippines. You said maayong buntag (good morning) to a man in the street, whilst just a courtesy for you it would have made that mans day, well done amigo.
Thanks Eric! Yes, I am learning more Visayan each week and you are correct. The locals do appreciate the effort
Hey, thanks man! Love the walk abouts when everything (businesses etc.) is/are close to each other. When out of town I also enjoy your scenic (landscape) walks. Vloggers who are constantly showing themselves, it gets annoying real quick...specifically when it's mostly a close up. (Exceptions are only if they are really easy on the eyes, most are definitely NOT! lol). Good advise on the financial side. Thanks again!
Hahaha, exactly! I’m sure you’d rather see the streets instead of me😂
There is now a brand new Irish pub and restaurant in town, it's name is "Fibber Magee's" pretty nice and live music most nights. Located at New Banica bridge, you can't miss it..
Yes, I made a video there the 2nd night it was open. You should check out all of my videos 😉
Been at Duma once! Never again!
Thanks for watching KNJ! Yeah, it’s not for everyone. I live 30 minutes south, and only go into Dumaguete about every 2 weeks for groceries

Awesome information. I'm coming to dumaguete sometime in October or November. Thank you.

really enjoyed your vlog. nice to get a personal view of dumaguete. I love walking and look forward to taking lots of walks through town to see all the shops and sites. also nice to get information on extentions. I too want to visit thailand, vietnam, and malaysia, but I want to get well established there in the philippines before I take the trips. however, Im already 73, so time isn't on my side. hope to see you there next year. I'll buy you a cup of coffee and a great jolly bee hamburger, hahaha.
Thanks for watching James! Sure, let me know when you come over 😉
I am close to your age and I'm leaving in a couple of months for the Philippines.. I live about 50 miles north of New Orleans.. where do you live and where are you leaving? I would like to drink a cup of coffee with you because I would like to make some American friends after I arrive🤗😎

I would be a bit nervous using a China Bank ATM because it seems like lately everything China is involved in is collecting data from various sources
I have been hesitant to use it. Yesterday was my first time.
Thanks for watching Rick! Yes, I’m sure they already had mine. BDO gives 20,000 so I would use that instead
Is there a coffee shop as long way from restaurant area

Hey ,new subscriber here. I don't recall seeing any of the other vloggers doing a walk around in those areas of Duma. Pretty interesting and informative! My only question is how much does a big Mac cost in Dumguete?😂 (seriously anyone I need to know)
Thanks for watching Ilkabong! 🤔 I don’t remember exactly, but I think the Big Mac meal was about 65% of what it was in the US..BUT, the Big Mac seemed smaller. I’m not sure if it’s actually smaller, because I heard McDonald’s was making sizes smaller in the US too
@@TooMuchTimeonmyHands65 👍
Dumguete is very interesting. Having been stationed at Clark Air Base, Philippines 🇵🇭 in 1991. Thought about long-term stay or retire in Philippines 🇵🇭. Great advice especially on money 💰 VISA matters in Philippines 🇵🇭, thank you.
Thanks for watching David! I’m glad you liked it. I highly recommend coming. You should come and do a recon mission to visit multiple places to decide which place you like best
I thouroughly enjoyed riding my rented scooter in Dumaguete. I call it "Organized Confusion".
Thanks for watching deadline! Yeah, it takes a little getting used to that’s for sure
I had same reaction like yours with the boy who thrown the snack
wrapper. I really felt bad for my kababayan. I want to say, "come on, boy let's love our environment pick up your trash and throw in the trashbin."
Thanks for loving the Philippines and touring us around.
Stay safe. Keep on coming. Watching you from Japan.
Thanks for watching Friend! Yeah, it’s frustrating. I had to break my girlfriend of the habit too
@@TooMuchTimeonmyHands65
Aww, sorry for that. I am a Filipina too but never did that when I was in the Philippines and yet never been to Japan. I also get mad to my late Japanese husband whenever he threw his cigarette butt outside the car. I got frustrated because I thought all Japanese people are
well-mannered. Then I have learned it depends on someone's personality. I admire people who has love for the environment.
@Paul Rice
I feel really sad, here in Japan in case there is no trashbin you should take home your own trash wherether it's just a small candy wrapper. This is what I want to teach to my fellow Filipinos.
And yet, if you decided to pick up that little boys trash and he saw you do it he would not even realise what you are doing,he would think you like the colour of the wrapper, one day in Dumaguete a mother and son looked at me with curiosity for doing exactly that.
@@TooMuchTimeonmyHands65 There should be signs everywhere telling Filipinos young and old to dispose their trash in a proper place. It's a shame that foreigners are the ones picking up our garbage.
Thanks for the Information, yes China Bank good but also Citibank and HSBC are Good Banks..
Thanks for suggestions 😉
Thanks for the video. I signed up for one of those Schwab Checking accounts myself.
Thanks for watching Steven! That’s great, I just checked my account and they refunded me $26.98 for ATM fees in June….well worth it 😉
Jolly bee so ok if you like sugar in everything, the food is just to sweet , MacDonalds is best for coffee and breakfast , burger king for a burger & onion rings..
Jollibee is not my favorite, but my GF likes it, so I eat it from time to time

Visit us in Davao province down south Philippines 🇵🇭 if you traveling 🧳😂🤣
Thanks for watching Scott! I’m glad you liked it
One of the problems I see all over the Philippines is people blocking the sidewalk. There’s scooters, cars, food stalls and various other things. There should be a law and the law should be enforced, that no one and no thing can obstruct any public sidewalk.
Yes, it’s really bad here. Dumaguete is definitely not a good choice for handicapped people
Nice tour. Options trading video 😊 Excellent
Thanks for watching avertactivity! I was going to do the options video today, but we are going to have a brown out today. So now, we are going to the neighboring island of Cebu. I’ll do the options video on Sunday
Best Pizza in the Philippines is at Toninos Resto Bar in Dipolog City. I've heard there are a couple more new pizza places opened since I was there last, but I'm telling you they have GREAT pizza there.

Hi when I was in Dumaguete it was a few years ago I didn't use ATM I used WorldRemit and to M Lhuillier Philippines which worked very well 5000 dollars for a fee of 250 pesos But now I don't know what M Lhuillier charges Very good vlog The last time I picked up a visa at the office was in 2014, after that it has been BalickBayan when I travel with my wife Good luck to God Bless
Thanks for watching Pling! Yes, I have friends here who use Remitly and Western Union
World Remit I have found to be very good. Reliable with low fees
Can’t miss G o green shirt when you walk in
Hahaha, actually I did miss him…didn’t even notice him
I saw on the comments that you mentioned using BDO bank. I have used the banks ATM before And never realize that you could take 20,000 out at a time so I paid double the fees. I appreciate you letting me know. Something to add never take money out of an ATM when the bank is not open. ATMs can shut down and do what they call capture your card which means you can’t get your card back for a day or two, And who met who knows how many people have handled that card by then. So you have to freeze your card and if you’re smart never use it again which can be a major problem when you’re in the Philippines. This actually happened to me luckily I was going back to the United States in about a week so I just canceled the card and picked up a new one when I returned to the United States. It was a metro bank ATM That captured my card and even though they are highly rated I will never use their ATM again or do business with them.
I’m glad the video helped, and thanks for the suggestion of not using your card when the bank is closed
You was looking at the hair do and I was looking at that next of wires.... whoa that is insane. Interesting topic on banking, atm, transfers from US held money. I guess nobody pays by check for their rent? Throwing trash in the street especially from a kid is really sad.
Thanks for watching Robert! My current landlord would probably take a check from me, but every where else I’ve stayed, they want cash only. If you find one you like, and can afford it, Airbnb properties let you pay by credit card. They do offer discounts for long term rentals
The Intro: Salamat sir 🙏 You are a gentleman 👍 I feel complete now 😄 On another note, as you were walking by folks on the street and elbowing a few scooters and trikes 💢 I started to wonder if you were simply holding your camera head high. And then 8:52 happened and Voilà! It was as if you knew peeps would be wondering 😆 Happy trails & Filipina Luvins! ✌
Hahaha, that intro was for you! Glad you enjoyed it
Far too many expats. Nice place to visit maybe, but I personally would never live there. I prefer Koronadal (Mindanao). It is a true Philippines experience. Very few foreigners. I stand out like a sore thumb. lol. Thanks for the video.
God bless.
Thanks for watching! Yes, there are a lot of foreigners here. While many people don’t like that, others do. Most Filipinos are still working, so if you want to hang out with someone during the week; it’s most likely going to be an expat.I live in Bacong, about 25 minutes south of Dumaguete. I only go into town once every two weeks for groceries
I have been to Ground Zereo (GZ) and they have great food there too. It would be a shame if it closed down!
Thanks for watching Vinces! Yes, their pizza tastes the best in my opinion. You have to eat it with a fork because it’s floppy, but it tastes great 😉
@@TooMuchTimeonmyHands65It was way too floppy and soggy.
Forget Thailand, KL is great ! If you can meet the financial requirements, KL is a tremendous city and cheaper than Thailand.
Thanks for watching Thaidawg! I would like to get over to Malaysia soon😉
They have two Jollibees in Houston I need to go try one next week One is on westheimer
No way! Where, off the Beltway near Chinatown or closer to the Galleria? I’m sure it’s not going to be as inexpensive as here, but I’m sure the pieces of chicken will be bigger there. A thigh here is slightly bigger than a McDonald’s chicken nugget from the US. Let me know what you think of the hot dog spaghetti 😂
theres way to many expats in duma i would never live there it would be like never leaving home but i guess some expats couldnt make it here with out having there own kind around them it reminds me of a big retirement home lol
Thanks for watching James! Yeah, I know people who just sit in Ground Zero all day. It kinda resembles an old folks home. I live 30 minutes south, and only go into the heart of Dumaguete about every 2 weeks for groceries
That is so funny and my feelings also.
Really good content. Showing practical things. Question how did you meet you girl friend?
We met online. We did a livestream today and answered questions about us
Most expats use their ATM card for funds until they can get established. IMHO it's best to only use major bank ATM machines like BPI or BDO. It's best to have a primary ATM and a back up. Both the BPI machines next to Yellow cab pizza and the BPI branch near Jolibee on the North road work well, Iv'e never had an issue. When you open a Peso account here also open a USD account if you are a US citizen. When you come to the Philippines bring a box of checks from your main bank in the US. As needed deposit a personal check in your USD account ($5.00 fee) and withdraw in pesos maybe once a month for your living expenses. Also you can wire funds to your USD account and use many other options like Remitly to fund it. For everything in the Philippines you need plan A, B and C. Always have a back up plan. Take care and enjoy the journey.
Thanks for watching Kanoi, making the recommendations 😉
@@TooMuchTimeonmyHands65 Thanks.
that was interesting to walk around with commentary. It's not overly built up but lots of hustle bustle. I heard there is one mall. how to get there on foot?
Thanks for watching Kev! I appreciate it. There are actually 2 malls in Dumaguete, both on opposite sides of town. I’m going to do another walk around in a day or two after I get over the cold I got yesterday.
My Charles Schwab ATM card mysteriously quit working after trying to use it at a Chinabank. They canceled the card and sent me a new one by DHL in a couple of weeks. I use BPI if I have a choice and can withdraw 20K from there as well.
Thanks for watching lamarg! That’s good to know. Hopefully I won’t have any issues. That was the first time ive used China Bank
I would be watching my 6 at the ATM
Yeah, that’s one thing I don’t like is how close people stand here. Some ATMs here are in little rooms, so you get more privacy
Great video. Vey informative. But pardon me i thought you can stay in the Philippines for three years at a time. 'Puzzled'
Thanks for watching Trever. You can stay here for 3 years, before you have to leave the country, but you do have to keep extending your travel visa every month. You don’t want to miss it either
Here in Cebu I use Western Union for large amount withdrawals or HSBC which allow you to withdraw 40k for same 250 pesos transaction fee, look if they have HSBC there.
👍🏻
Thanks for turning the camera and showing your surroundings. Some YTubers keep the camera on their face! My question is, can you park a car or scooter anywhere there's space? Don't see any parking restriction signs unless they are posted out of view ...
Thanks for watching! It’s a pain trying to find a place to park a car here. Most places have a designated parking spot for bikes
And a lot of the available spaces may be blocked for use by patrons only so you usually end up parking far from where you need to be unless you catch someone leaving a spot.
I’m sorry, but at least here in Virginia those ATM fees also exists if it’s not your bank. That’s also about the same amount US $ fee I was charged when I used the ATM at the hotel..
Sure, but in the US i didn’t have any trouble finding a Chase bank, so I never paid any ATM fees
great video
Thank you sir!
I can almost feel the heat from the sun walk the street of city in Ph.
Yes, it can get pretty toasty in the afternoon!
Apparently Ground Zero doesn't sell alcohol, no future. 🙂
I guess they ran out, because I always drink Stolichnaya vodka and sprite when I’m there. It’ll probably be closed at the end of the month
I use JRC, they are very good
👍🏻
A wealth of information, Kevin, thanks. My guess is they don't handle or accept written checks for things like rent or bills? Can you do online transactions for those things to get around drawing cash from atms? Also if you do banking with a place there and go to the teller, do you also have to pay withdraw/transaction fees? One more thing: It would be hard to tip 20ps with a 500 p bill. How about other things like at restaurants, sari saris, bars, open air markets and such? Can the handle breaking a bill that large for purchases normally?
I guess it would be up to your landlord, but every place I’ve lived they want cash. If get an account at BDO or any other bank, you won’t have to pay any transaction fees. I like my Charles Schwab checking account. They reimbursed me $27 for ATM fees for June
To have a Charles Schwab checking account you cannot tell them that your residence is in the Philippines. When ever they find out they will close your account. Just call and ask a Schwab financial advisor and they will tell you this and it will be confirmed information.
You are correct, but my residence is in Spring Texas. I am here on a tourist visa working as an international vlogger
I love Lee Plaza ….I was hoping you would go in…they have a bakery down stairs as you probably know. I stayed at the Nicanor hotel which was about 3 blocks from the boardwalk.
Thanks for watching Marc! Yes, the smell of that bakery hits you in the face as soon as you walk in😊
The first visa extension is for one month and the second visa extension is for two months then you can jump to six months
Thanks, I wasn’t sure what I did 😉
I withdrew from that very China Bank ATM last week after trying several PI banks and being rejected. Haha. Also in 500s. I found China Bank consistently paid out.
Thanks for watching David! Yes, that is one thing I have heard about China Bank
Great walk around video!! New subscriber here. Where are the dental and healthcare clinics? Thanks!

I had thought about opening a Charles Schwab account before..But was worried about getting a smooth changeover from my Chase Morgan account. Also, my SS and pension done promptly. Anyone here tried that in recent years?
I have not, but I’m sure if you went to a Schwab office they could help you
I do forex trading and I may be in the Philippines in 2 years.
Cool, keep a US address though. Schwab and others will lock your account if they find out you don’t have an address there
i'm from dumaguete myself, if you don't mind the over pricing of our pedicab drivers (the fare minimum is 15 and max is 20 regardless of distance, up to you if you want to give the driver more) , the blackouts every saturday or sunday, the mentality of the traffic management office personel where they don't know the difference between parked and waiting, then go for it, dumaguete is a nice place to live minus the extreme heat during lunch time.

I'm curious, you said you recommend telling customs at the airport that you're going to stay six weeks but how does that work when you have to show a return ticket of thirty Days or less?
Won't they see right through that I get angry?
You don’t have to show customs your exit ticket. You show that to the airline before your international trip
Dumaguete is somewhat better than most Thai cities in that it does have more sidewalks than Thai cities such as Pattaya and Phuket.
I’m looking forward to visiting Thailand before I have to return to the US In August. Any recommendations?
@@TooMuchTimeonmyHands65 It really depends on your budget and your time.
Bangkok is 6 million plus people. It's more far expensive than other parts of Thailand.
Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, IMO is for younger people as much of its tourism is for exploring the more remote areas of Thailand.
Pattaya is full of older retired expats. Lots of cheap rentals. Lots of drinking and entertainment spots. Only about 120K in greater Pattaya so not too big. IMO the easiest way to find what you need is to ask some of the expats who have been there a while. Where's the cheapest shopping or places to eat ask one of expat women. BTW don't go swimming in the ocean in Pattaya. Too much pollution.
Phuket is smaller than Pattaya and a bit slower. Not so much entertainment and sex. Reading recently that it's been invaded by lots of Russians due to the war. Water's said to be safer. Most hotels have pools so I avoid the ocean.
@@jackbrown8052 great, thank you!!

Whats the cost of the visa? Do the ATM's give a fair exchange rate? When I visited...I had a bank try to give me an exchange rate of 51when the actual rate was 56.
You have two different options for the visa. It’s about $40 USD each month, but it takes a week to get. You can pay more to get it the next day. I just go a week early and save the money. The banks are paying around 54-1, which is in line
