Roz is such a strong character and a brilliant part of this ensemble cast with some fantastic lines but there was one scene in particular that I considered carefully before including and then worried over cutting it down as it's such an emotional scene and truly shows the strength of writing and connections between the cast. Of course you all know the scene of which I speak.

Her acting is always brilliant but she really excelled herself when she was defending Niles in the café. That quaver in her voice was just perfect.
Nils really did not deserve defending though.
This man tips alone will probably cover all the pot you will ever smoked.
@@lizclegg7556 okay, HOW SO EXACTLY???? the dude was fighting sleep and stress over his ex-wife and her own problems, dealing with a murder trial, a pregnant wife, an OBNOXIOUS brother AND the press that would literally not leave him alone what so ever. Yeah, he and Roz bantered a lot. A lot of people do that. It's called frenemies. But what did Niles do that didn't deserve defending from having a mental breakdown while trying to keep it all together????
@@xeniamartin5297 Nils was consistently rude and insulting to Roz and never said or did a single thing to help or support her (and she had many pressures in her life - she was a single mother for christ's sake) so he certainly did not deserve any defending by her. He never made much of a contribution or did anything much for anybody (except Daphne). He may have been the wittiest character on Frasier (largely because of DHP's way with the script), but not the most deserving.

Peri Gilpin was so underrated. She perfectly balanced out the cast.

I agree! I loved her character, she was strong, independent, and really grounded Frasier and Niles, and brought them back to down to reality lol

Roz was always the long-suffering elder sister character to the two Crane brothers. She loved them both, even though they annoyed and infuriated her. She wanted the best for them in the end though, and her easy relationship with Martin was so endearing.
Her "relationship" with Niles was great. I loved to see them spar.

I think it's at least a part of what makes Frasier so good. The fact that all the characters had actual relationships with each other, and those relationships were all unique and weren't dependant on the main character. Roz and Frasier had a unique relationship, Roz and Niles had a unique relationship, Roz and Martin had a unique relationship, and roz and Daphne had a unique relationship. And all those relationships were believable, evolved with the show, and ultimately endeared the characters to the viewers.
Hard to believe so much time has passed since Frasier finished but seeing these scenes has brought back to me just how great Peri Gilpin was in the role of Roz Doyle. The whole cast was great but Peri in hindsight really stood out and her scenes can still bring a laugh or a smile when we need it in these troubled times. So enjoyable!
Peri Gilpin was perfectly cast. Her timing and sensibility for the character was spot on. She is a role model for future sitcom actresses.
I read somewhere that it was originally offered to Lisa Kudrow, but it didn’t work, and they recast? Hard to imagine anyone other than Peri.
not afraid to admit I actually cried during the "I miss Roger" conversation when they were hosting in Spokane. It was one of the very best scenes in the entire series.

OMG...yes. Such a good scene and seemed so real. Great great acting. :)
I don't think I could pick a favorite character from this show. What a great ensemble and Peri and David had some of the best moments together with their bickering. So talented.
I can pick a favourite character, and it's Roz.
I about died laughing the first time I watched the multiple murderer episode. That’s my favorite line of hers! The protection line is my second favorite "I can’t beat those odds." During the James Burrows tribute a couple years ago Perri said that during the first recording of the pilot James said something like "I wish Lisa (Kudrow) was here." What a way to light a fire under someone & boy did he. I honestly think she’s a better actress then Kudrow & the character was better as well. By the end of the series I felt like Perri created an independent female character that many women could look up to without it being over the top. Roz earned everything she got in the long run & could always hold her own against Frasier & Niles when they commented on her escapades.
The 90s had a lot of powerful female characters, the wives were always portrait as the main force of the house, female main characters were usually written inserted in a workplace in high positions (Murphy Brown, Suddenly Susan, Victoria's Closet, Ally Mcbeal, Mad About You, etc.)
I grew up watching all of that and it's weird to see Roz standing out like in your comment because we had a lot of female characters sort of like her throughout the 90s. The actress, however, made all the difference and your comment is spot on.
Love that "multiple murderer" line as well - if you watch just after, you can see that both Kelsey Grammar and David Hyde Pierce are trying not to laugh. You know it's a good line when even they are struggling to keep it together!
Kelsey actually said "I wish Kirstie (Alley) was here".
She acts rings around Kudrow..
@@tomreedyjr3631 Of all the actors on friends, Kudrow was the least believable and the least funny which is really kid of strange since she is also the smartest with an IQ of 154 and actually has a Doctorate in Medicine.

And then Roz plucked out one of Daphne’s hairs on her head, to which Daphne replied “ouch”, followed by Roz’s immediate response of “Times a million”! Classic.
Roz and Niles were my 2 favourite characters on this show, really enjoyed the scenes with only the two of them :)
She had such awesome delivery. One I always liked was in the Leap Year episode where she is talking about that guy she met briefly on the bus and all of the sudden panics and goes, "Who am I, Marcia Brady!?"

I lived in England for half of 1989 and 'Frazier' was all the rage there.
Frasier didn't start til 1993. Unless you just meant his character on Cheers. That was on.
Yeah it’s still pretty big over here they play it daily on TV. Lots of 90s US sitcoms were really popular over here, Frasier, Home Improvement, Fresh Prince and loads more. I don’t think cheers or sienfield were ever that popular over here though.

Ha! You're so right NJ! I set myself the rule that I'd stick blindly to the suggestions from Reddit users in the order they were submitted. There were a few of my own favourites that I would've liked to include too - especially the 'Freaks on line 1... Freaks everywhere!' bit.
One of the best Roz moments was when they bought the restaurant and she blew up the cherries jubilee

I liked Roz more than any character on Frazier. There's no subterfuge with her and she's smart, quick and beautiful.

Thanks pauli. Definitely not all memorised but I usually remember the episode for most of the popular quotes. The trickiest thing is when people suggest a quote that isn't quite how it was delivered. Finding those slightly mis-remembered quotes can be a challenge!

This may have been a comedy but the actors were all first class and could have been great in high drama . They handled tragedy as well as comedy brilliantly

She was such a well defined and fun character, and the perfect type to work directly with pompous Frasier, take him down a peg now and then when he deserved it. But the writers sometimes failed their characters, and with Roz this happened when she dated the garbage man and never stopped yammering about him. I don't know why they turned her temporarily into a gibbering buffoon but I was so relieved when they wrote him out.
My favorite line is "This man's tips alone have probably paid for all the pot you'll ever smoke".
Peri is terrific.

Roz is always overlooked when it comes to people listing the best sitcom characters. Peri Gilpin was so perfect in the role. I couldn't imagine Lisa Kudrow in the part.
Peri was very underrated...she was an excellent actor and comedienne...and Roz was my favorite character.

THANK GOD Lisa Kudrow didn't get this role even though it was originally meant for her. She would NOT have been right for it. Peri Gilpin did it justice.
