Today we are going to talk about startup growth. This is part two of our growth video: • How to Grow a Small Bu...
The reason I know any of this is because I'm the CEO of a company called Slidebean, and for our first few years, I handled most of our initial marketing experiments.
In our last video, we talked about the 19 growth channels available in the world, so in this episode, I am going to talk about the ones that we've tried, the ones that failed, and the ones that worked.
This is how to grow a small business, part II.
Big disclaimer, these tactics apply to our particular case: a SaaS company with a presentation design product that saves (a tremendous amount) of time.
These might or might not apply to you, but hopefully, they can give you some ideas.

Hi, I love watching slidebeans and specifically your simplistic and lucid style of teaching in a crisp manner in a short time. We appreciate your efforts and contributions in creation of these videos. thanks
Thank you so much!
Channels of growth that have worked for them;
1) Search Engine Marketing - Leveraging moment of intent
2) SEO - 1st SEM 2nd SEO, because SEO is a ton of work
3) Engineering as Marketing
4) Content Marketing - Focusing mostly on CZcams, blogs also work, kinda... (Took years, spending 5k monthly)
5) Social and Display Ads, for closing the conversion loops
👌
The hero we needed!
@@slidebean What does Engineering as Marketing mean? I didn't understand from the video
@@stevehookmedia creating a new product or offering a service (possibly free) that utilizes your current product or service; thus showcasing the capabilities and advantages and hoping that people pay to use it for themselves too.
Thanks slidebean! You share your priceless experience to us.. 🙏🏻
Your honesty is your best advertisement so far. You're slowly earning viewers' trust and respect.
thanks for being open about your economics here. i think trying out different acquisition channels and comparing the economics is an essential part of startup's growth journey
Thank you so much , well respected for your honesty
man you're just awesome, so much information data knowledge in the same place, it's crystal clear that you've been through a lot to get here, thank you so much.

thank you for the content! It was fun to watch and learn :-)
Great video - thank you!
Great insight to what is working. I like it.
Awesome video! Thanks a lot!!
Could you please do a video on setting up retargeting on social & display ads using the warm leads you gather from all other channels
Firstly I want thank you for this great content. I would love you to explain all of that 19 ways of marketing. Explain how it applies to different industries. E.g. food/restaurant industry, Saas industry, service industry, etc. This will surely help a lot of us, thanks.
Idea noted! Thanks!
I am here for it! Part 2
Great stuff!
Caya, for scaling a growing solopreneur business, who would be your first hire? I’m stuck with what position to hire because I need them to have a relatively quick financial impact to the business to extend runway. I’m in the consumer goods space. Thanks!
Love it!!!
Nice video!
But I have a question:
1: If someone just started a small business, in this case where should we invest most amount SEM or SEO!
That's the phrase. Helpless victim to content marketing hahahahaha u guys are good. U know how to bring value to the table and know that that's the leverage for higher acquisition and LTV.
Looking forward to learning from the masters
I'm definitely gonna try out your premium service once I get to that level for the funding round. Love your content. Thanks.
@Slidebean content marketing is working! Great!
you simply are the bests guys. all growth marketing strat in 10 min.
It'll be great to know how to manage content on mobile vs desktop(or pc) targeting in this marketing part.
merci beaucoup!
Thanks, Arouna!
hey, could you give us more information on how you do Social & Display ads? Thanks a lot
you guys are angels
Thank you for watching!
I got a question, isn't the display ads ( that you suggested at the end of the video) the same that disrupts our experience in socials?
I know it's to close the loop or bring the possible customer back, but could it develop into an annoying display ad?
Loved the video :)
SEO and marketing are key components
True Jae!
👌
love your videos so much
Thank you so much Ruslan!
Amazing and core knowledge keep the good work up. waiting for the next video.👍
Thank you! There are plenty more and Part IV is already in the works!
Here from Argentina, our company sells cooking products in social media and it this is a GREAT youtube content about how to grow a business (also drunk while writting this BTW). I was wondering whether you guys are uploading a video on SEO. cya!
Amazing!! Man. Thanks🙏🙇
Thanks, Faizan!
All I could focus on is that I have that same shirt- but also great content
Dude, you are nuts (I mean that in a positive sense)
you are very good at marketing
Hi Jae, we are always testing and learning. There's always something new to try.
Thanks for watching!
Can you in a sentence describe what business development entails?
Thanks :D
The title of the video should reference B2B. If you're a consumer facing product, then things like brand marketing have greater importance.
Forget decks, start a marketing school guys. Well done
Thanks, Carlos!
Hey Caya/slidebean team I love the way your videos look. Thanks for sharing about the filming equipment! What tool do you use to edit the background of the videos? I love your background and all the animations.
Hi, Helena. Thank you! For post-production, we use a mix of Final Cut Pro and After Effects :)

Awesome! How can I make any videos look as good as yours with all the graphics? Any tools or software?
We can discuss that topic on a video soon! You can check out the comments on each video to shed a light of part of the stuff we use for production :)
Your content has been very enlightening. I tried signing up to foundershub and found it difficult to use on a smartphone due to lack of optimization on the sign-up page. This could be deliberate or accidental on your developers part. Thought you should know.
Thanks for the feedback, Samuel! We'll check on it!
Hi, i would need to get your advise on my start up :)

Hi, Tholang. Can you please try here? app.founderhub.io/
Any info on how to pitch a company to buy your service?
A good idea is to have a polished elevator pitch. You can read more about that here:
slidebean.com/blog/startups-elevator-pitch-examples Hope it helps!
Hii Caya, just a quick question i took part in this competition by hyundai motors to fund a startup based on a social cause and got selected for finals, now i have to pitch in front of a jury of investors in 3 days, and ik my idea is great but i dont have any sales or any data to show as i got to know that my idea got selected last week, so what should be my approach to show that my idea is worth investing even though i don't have any sales to back that up...
Hello Shivam! Try adding initial numbers of pre-registrations, survey results and market expectations you researched. Also, include an "exit slide" to show investors other companies in your sector that have been either successfully acquired or funded, and for how much. This helps foster market validation and justifies any possible investment. My recommendation? Since this is a social entrepreneurship project, try being creative with your KPIs. Instead of focusing on sales, try focusing on the potential your project has to cause "x" social change in "y" amount of time and use that as pathos in your presentation. Hope this helps and best of luck!
@@manuelmoreira6591 thank you very much for the advice
In fact, e-mail marketing doesn't work for those who are doing it in the wrong way - and yes, most startuppers don't know hot to do e-mail marketing, including ourselves until two years ago. Here is a blog post we wrote back then: insidescreentag.wordpress.com/2018/12/31/e-mail-marketing-as-we-know-it-is-dead/
Hi sir I am Indian and I like you all video
Thanks! 🙌
Hi sir I am Chinese and I like you comment
7:42 , uh not exactly, it costed you time, money and effort over the years to reach that level, or did i miss something
Hi Caya, What a great video. Don't know why I first came by this now but I want to take you up on your request to ask you for feedback as I am facing some hurdles. I am biz dev. at a small health-tech company in the Netherlands. 30 people, 100 clients (hospitals, clinics, pharma, medical devices), active in 15 countries, 500k+ users, 0€ invested or borrowed (pure independent growth), profitable business. The product is a CE-marked medical device and is 6 years old. We are in a sense leading in our market looking at the number of clients and knowledge but we are struggling with proper quick growth to allow key hires, long hard to manage sales cycles and it feels like we've hit a ceiling when it comes to workload contra
workforce. I am curious to hear your 2 cents on this. Thank you in advance.
Now I need to check what is Slidebean 😬
Please do :) www.slidebean.com
Your email game is very bad. I signed up to see your email flows, was disapointed. You have 1,000,000 emails ? thats 1/5 of my country.
