Yesterday, it was my grandmother's funerals. She loved Sardou more than any other singer. And we put that song, for her, at the ceremony. I couldn't stop crying because of the lyrics. It will no longer be the same without her. She has always been there for me, or for anyone. She was the kind of person who gave more than received. She took care of my grandfather who had suffered of cancer during 20 years, without complaining. When she was working, she took care of elderly people.
She also supported me more than anything. I loved her so much and I will always love her. We were very close. I used to see her several times in a week. But now, I can't... I will always cherish the memories I have with her. Last time I saw her, I kissed her forehead and said "bisous", in a way to say goodbye, without knowing it would be the last time I spent with her.

I just love how you make me rediscover songs that I was too judgemental to appreciate before (French popular singers can be seen as "too commercial" and whatnot). It's a good thing to just like or love a song simply because it speaks to you, without worrying about what other people have to say about it :)

Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on Michel Sardou and Garou. This song "La Rivière De Notre Enfance" (The River Of Our Childhood) was released on November 14, 2004 and taken from the 23rd studio album "Du Plaisir" (Some Pleasure) by Michel Sardou and Garou's second album "Reviens" (Come back).
It will be ranked no.1 for 5 weeks, has sold 462 5000 copies and certified Diamond disc.
The song evokes the nostalgia of childhood where everything was quiet and peaceful as well as its small details which are dear to the human being. Childhood is a landmark, a pillar for Man, on which his life strongly depends on it.
The music video seems to take place in an old abandoned house, symbol of nostalgia, which may have belonged to the two protagonists.
I recommend you a female singer Chimène Badi who participated in the Popstars program in 2002 on M6 channel and covered a song by Michel Sardou the same year 2004: Je Viens Du Sud (I Come From The South).
    M/V link: czcams.com/video/pYv_oP5F7GI/video.html (9,4M views) 5,2M plays on Spotify.
Thanks for your great work our Frenchie American dude.👍🇫🇷

I never paid attention to the video, i had never seen the funny ending, so thanks for that! Sardou is an actor on top of being a singer, and him and Garou are funny guys, despite of the emotions they can carry when they sing. So it's quite a nice twist in the end, you're taken by nostalgia and sadness, thinking they probably lost their dad and go through their memories in the family house. In fact, they seem to be burglars, that explains why they put the watch in their pocket.. Clever! And Sardou says to Garou in the end: "you must have sung too loud again.." 😁

  • @paulchapoy992
    @paulchapoy992 Před 2 lety

Dereck, I agree with you, the contrast of the two different voices makes it even greater!
We of course recognize Sardou's touch, but I LOVE Garou's voice!
He is from Quebec but he is famous in France since his remarquable interpretation of Quasimodo in
Le temps des Cathédrales, inspirated by Victor Hugo in ND de Paris!
You didn't catch the little touch of humour at the end about the reason why they got arrested!
Thus, Sardou says to Garou : You sang too loud once again!
T'as encore chanté trop fort !
    😂😂😂 lol
(In France it's forbidden by law to make noise after 10 pm and you can complain to the cops = Les flics 👮‍♂️!)
This ends the serious song with a little touch of humour!
Thank you for your reaction Dereck !
