    Nice upgrade video. Pity that Longer don't sell an upgrade kit for the limit switches only with the appropriate cabling; will be sticking to the 10W module since it has an amazing kerf below 55 microns when cutting thin materials.

    A good guide for anyone wishing to upgrade to a more powerful laser, albeit at the expense of losing a bit of cutting area. I wasn't 100% sure about the results of the engraving, what was being engraved and is there problems with it being too powerful?
    As usual, another top notch video 👍

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Před rokem

      For engraving I have to do more tests. It seems lower speeds are better but that will mean much less power. I think 3000mm/min and 20-30% power could be the sweet spot. Buy yes this module is more for cutting than engraving. Even the max engraving speed of 10000 indicates that. However if you wanted to engrave harder materials like metal or stone or something like that this would be perfect. I'm making a project with it now and I'm super curious how it will pan out 🤔

    Did you have to make any changes to the controller code to enable homing? I'm trying to add limit switches, and it seems to see them, but it won't home. Oddly enough my Ray5 has a Makerbase controller instead of a Longer controller.

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Před rokem

      I didn't amend any code. I always set up my own homing points, just prefer it that way. I use the software to get that doen.

    Hi Tomasz, great video thank you, I have bought the upgrade kit and it has arrived with the new cabling and the air assist pump. Your video is very helpful in showing me how to do it. Would the thicker ash have worked if you had moved the focus down half way through, it would seem that the focus at the top of the wood is correct but by the time it gets half way through it is a long way out, perhaps if you altered the focus on the 5th pass it would have worked. Just an idea. I will let you know how my upgrade goes. Thanks again

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Před rokem

      Yes I think that would work. I just uploaded a project where I used this laser to cut out a whole box out of 6mm Ash board. Single pass 200mm/min 100% power and it went through with no issues. So I would say up to 15mm of hardwood Ash should be no issues at all. Just lower the power and increase the passes and you should get a nice clean cut. Super happy with the performance of this module 👍

    Long shot, but the 2 tiny screws on the back..did they cause you any problems? When i installed the 2 tiny screws the laser wont go up high enough for me to use my honeycomb working table. if i tighten the screws down too much i cant move the laser at all.

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Před rokem

      You most likely overtighten them. They are just to guide the module so undo them a bit.

      @X_Mode_Gaming Před rokem +2

      Thank you for replying. I think maybe I got defective screws because they hit the bar and prevent me from raising it up high enough.

    Hello, thank you for this video. Very well explained.
    I have a little question. I have the machine with the 20w module, I know it can go up to 10000mm/minute, but I have a problem, I have the impression that between 6000 and 10000, I don't see any difference in speed . Is there an adjustment to be made? THANKS

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Před 4 měsíci +1

      So have you ran a test at both speeds - same design - to check how long it took for each setting? That will be the best indication to check the difference between both speeds.

      @@CasualDIY , Yes, I compared it to 6000 and 10000, the time is identical...

    I've had the Longer 20W for 2 months and it continuously gives a Hard Limit Error. I've researched everywhere and several others said you MUST upgrade the firmware to fix it. Longers download does not work, as many have said, and I've emailed them twice with no response. Sorry, but Longer Lasers have now convinced me they are JUNK! No support and many problems. I have two other Atomstacks and NEVER had a problem. I sure wish I had bought from a different manufacturer. SO disappointed in Longer.

      Hmm shame the customer service I not helping, not good enough. Did you upgrade the module or did you buy the 20W version?

    • @SailingCorina
      @SailingCorina Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@CasualDIY I ordered it directly from the manufacturer in China along with the air pump and round roller for tumblers. There is a video someone made about 3 weeks ago and he had heard many people had the same problem. He is also aware that Longer no longer has a working firmware update on their website but luckily he was able to download it before it quit working so he has made the update available on his website. I am hoping this works for me. With no customer support from China, this was a very expensive risk I did not know I was taking. I really can't believe I did not receive a response from their "customer support" email.

      @@SailingCorina Wow that is bad, must be because they released the new models and most likely stopped supporting the old ones. Still makes no sense to remove the update from their website
