    Good job telling people to use a saturation plugin. For me I even have a external compressor. I send my vst occasionally thru that unit back into my soundcard with a DI converter. It also gives a more natural feeling of using a external synth. If you have the opertunaty to send your vst signal outside your soundcard and back in you also got the effect. ✌🏼peace

    • @thinkspaceeducation4308
      @thinkspaceeducation4308 Před 6 lety +4

      That's very true but to be honest if I want an analogue synth sound, I would go to a dedicated virtual instrument. It just gives you more control if you want to tweak things.

    think both hardware and software work and sound, great. mostly like, the older composers already own the hardware gear from years back, but for a new composer affordable software is more convenient and portable.

    I've found i can get almost any vintage sound using thor which comes with reason, to make it sound analog just have separate lfos - or even better use a chaos generator to modulate each individual oscillator and filter slightly to give that detuned phasing sound, then just pass it through a saturator. The rest is all effects, pretty much. I think theres a stranger things refill hanging around as well with all the sounds built using reason devices!

      Sometimes I like to run software synths through external hardware effects processors. It can add some warmth & character. Sometimes I also like to layer software & hardware synths. That can also sound pretty cool, too.

  • @KNHSynths
    @KNHSynths Před 5 lety +3

    It's quite easy to compare side by side digital and analog synths and to hear some differences, but once used in a track, mixed, equalized, with other instruments, it's nearly impossible to tell the difference.
    Here is a vst/analog test to know if you can tell the difference ! (15 synths tested), Will you find the Analog Synths ? It's hard ! czcams.com/video/-R3rTs7_Lww/video.html

    • @onelittleatlas5645
      @onelittleatlas5645 Před 5 lety +1

      Exactly mate! Or in the virtual realm you can use 6 korg ms-20's all arpeggiating various sequences around each other at once. Wouldn't dream of being able to ever do that in the real world haha

    • @KNHSynths
      @KNHSynths Před 5 lety

      @@onelittleatlas5645 6 MS 20 is not so expensive (about $2500 for MS 20 new mini series), half the price of a good minimalistic eurorack... But for sure it is far cheaper to do it with VST :-)
      The comparison is even more incredible, when you use for example 10 instances of the Arturia Synclavier, each one being about $200,000 at time !
      2 million dollars on the screen, that's the magic of digital world... But will you have the same pleasure than just one real Synclavier in your studio ? not sure !

  • @PerKiilstofte
    @PerKiilstofte Před 6 lety +4

    Guy always reminds me of Ray Cokes and his Most Wanted show back in the 90's :)
    Anyway, on topic: I wanted to mention the following synths that also deliver the goods when it comes to emulating the analogue sound, for anyone interested: U-he synths Diva (Modeled after Moog's Minimoog, Roland's Jupiter 6, Jupiter 8, Alpha Juno and Juno 60, and Korg's MS20), Repro-1(Modeled after Pro-One) and Repro-5 (Modeled after Prophet 5) coming out soon. And then of course there's also The Legend from Synapse Audio modeled after the Moog Minimoog.

  • @Kazilikaya
    @Kazilikaya Před 3 lety

    The Computer is the ultimate synthesizer. It can create any kind of sound possible and use all 3 types of electronic sound synthesis(additive, subtractive, distortion). As well as physical modeling to simulate acoustic instruments. But to make it work in real time, you need parallel processing as well as a watchdog timer circuit to make sure it does not lock up during a recording session or during a performance!

  • @Nonpartisanmusic
    @Nonpartisanmusic Před 5 lety +2

    The thing is in a song/composition made of different tracks no one would be able to tell the difference or almost impossible plus digital is getting so good that is starting to have its own particular sound rather than trying to imitate the analog... I own both as working on a piece of hardware with real knobs and faders the whole sound designing becomes an experience on its own, real fun. I find now very frustrating to work on synth sounds with a bloody mouse...just can't stand it. I find easier to get the sound i want off on analog.... Would be amazing if all those companies making soft synths could create the relative midi controller for the soft synth they release, then just wow...

  • @hejdhejhdjxxuje403

    If you can tell the difference it's usually because the analog synths are in disrepair/old and quirky.

    Even the 5 dollar Minimoog app from Moog sounds like Hardware.
    P900 (mac only modular synth) sounds even better than hardware :)
    U-he Repro is amazing too.
    Yeah, even a lot iOS apps sounds like Hardware (Zeeon f.e.)

  • @rdoetjes
    @rdoetjes Před 5 lety +1

    It’s the inaccuracies in analog that give it the soul. I own a deep mind, and the oscillators are rock solid, it’s 2017 tech after all and an all digital Waldorf. But when I need to make a sound, there’s nothing like that tactile feeling. Whether it’s analog or digital isn’t really a thing (especially in a mix). But pressing buttons and twirling knobs has that unique creative trigger.

    I think everyone should enjoy freedom of choice of whether or not to involve vst synths hardware or sampled instruments in their work for any reason they see fit. I have recently exhumed a JV 2080 and a JP 8080 from my archive of forgotten things …..they both blow me away sonically where’s as to my ears some of the other bygone instruments I posses really don’t compare sonically and are less user friendly than some modern VST versions …so for me and for you if you can ….its pick and mix . One thing is clear to me and that is if you are trying emulate real world instruments with synth VSTs or hardware synths , just about anything other than certain types of piano will challenge you with a difficult journey … maybe so even if your lucky to own one of the latest modeled instruments. Have fun 🙏🙏🏿👍
