- How I adjust valves & injectors on my '97 Cummins N14 CELECT 500hp "Red Top"
Quick & dirty, simple instructional on the process I use. Are there other ways to skin a cat? Of course, but sometimes us DIY guys need a "info only" step-by-step without 20 minutes of unnecessary babble.
This engine is completely stock & has been rebuilt once. The truck is a '97 Kenworth W900L with 2.4 million miles.
My assumption is the average viewer has basic knowledge of mechanical work & is a DIY type. This is not authoritative so use my specs & process at your own risk. Look up your engine's particular specs & procedures. I don't read CZcams comments but you can interact with me on Instagram @flannel_philip

Thank you. I have an n14 in an international and am going to purchase my second red top plus in a 1999 Western Star. I appreciate the DIY information on anything N14. Love your videos brother!
Awesome thanks man got a water truck came in from auction and has barely enough fuel to start and run starting with this I appreciate the help!
I want to thank you for the video you just don't know how much it helped me you are a great mechanic I will be passing the word around I've been doing mechanic on my truck since 1989 and felt intimidated to do that work saved me a lot of money and you did to where I could understand it thanks a bunch
Very good and well explained 😊😊
Awesome. Love this type of content.
I have on many a occassion been unable to read the A B C markings on the auxillary pulley due to corrosion and down to the fact that Cummins marked them far to light. I now find it's far quicker to use a DTI gauge with magnetic base and bar the engine over till your injector is bottom dead centre and the companion clylinder valves rocking then carry out the setting. That only applies to the Celect and Celect Plus.
How often do u adjust after a rebuild
Did you have to readjust the Jake’s?
this is a cool video, not all the please subscribe and blah blah, i used a socket..... straight to the point and saves time
You need some angled feeler gauges to help you get in there, great job 👍.
They were angled,,,when he got done!!! Lol
Great video Philip! I’ve got a question. Is there a difference between the N 14 in the N 14 celect plus? what horsepower setting is your engine at?
I am wondering the same but I don’t think he reads comments. I have the N14 in a 1995 International and am getting ready to purchase a 1999 Western Star with the Celect plus, red top. Did you ever find out?
So when you start adjusting on cylinder 1, intake exhaust and the injector rocker will all be loose?
Yes
On a cummins N14 celect can 1 use injectors from different cpl engines on the same engine? And is it possible to use celect plus injectors on a celect engine??? Help
What injectorv clect plus a just on
Hey man. I know you posted this a while ago. But between me 2 friends we have 5 n14 trucks. We use each others injectors and they all work fine. Once one goes bad we swap with whatever is available
@@julitoortega504 terrible idea..but hey you do you..who cares about injector flow rates.
Chris Fix for semi trucks
i do not se him doing noting lol
You never showed the actual valve adjustment. Why?
holy hell this is wrong. It requires 2 rotations to do all the valves and injectors. not 1 like you are telling people
BASTARD
to adjust the injector aren’t you supposed to finger tighten the bolt until it bottoms out, then do a 120 degree turn, then tighten the lock nut? Also I’m confused by your comment about “2 rotation to do all the valves” as doing the valve just requires using the feeler gauge spec, and tightening the lock nut.
You should off showed Jake adjustment also
I could have been better if you started the engine and let us hear it😢
