This is one of the best VR grab bag videos ever. A funeral train with many older units dead-in-tow at La Grange and Covington. Derailment in Texas , Darwins at Revelstoke and some great shots of different trains and railfans. The ladies in California becoming confused and suprised by the crossing gates coming down was hilarious. Excellent video ! 😁👍

Interesting fact about those SD45s. They were actually rebuilt into SD40M-2s by Morrison Knudsen at their shops in Hornell, NY back in the 90s. I hope they do get saved and possibly preserved.

5 hours for that unique lash-up to go from La Grange to Covington. An hour and 10 minutes by car. Just shows you how trains are sometimes delayed. But interestng to see the same train on those two cameras.

So on Saturday my wife and I crossed another item off our bucket list by going to see the street running trains in Lagrange. It goes without saying just how thrilled we were to see the train with 19 engines.

Lol. This is like, the 6th or 7th derailment UP has had at Tower 55 just this year. I think it's because they keep trying to push triple-consist trains through it, and that interlocker just isn't big or sturdy enough for those.
Hey, they tore down tower 55 and now everything derails... karma?
I think it has more to do w/the radius of of that curve. A subtle kink or something.

Seems that curve at Ft, W. is a derail hazzard, seeing two other derails several months ago! And ,the dead loco group had a couple of 'Omaha goats' in it.- the bulb-nose SW's, rebuilt from SW7s in Omaha.
This one at 7:21 I got to ride Thursday afternoon in Ft Worth as part of BNSF RailPAC 2023. The 4th car in the dome was very posh!

Look at all those beautiful fall colors on the trees. We don't get any of that here in South Florida, even my 3 native Red Maple trees turn straight to brown once a year with none of the fall colors.
The funeral train was especially sad, as I've watched each one of the SD45s, in action in deeply dramatic contexts..

The 3 BNSF engines at Roanoke at 15:30 were running shuttle service the other day - probably between Greensboro and Linwood North Carolina. The three went by Thomasville twice in "elephant" style. Went by in the morning and came back in the afternoon. Must have turned them on the wye in Salisbury. Looks like they are on the way home. Probably just turned the pumpkin some time later to avoid the wye.

Apparently the old engines are being moved to LTEX Rail (Larry’s Truck Electric) in Ohio.

Some of those old locomotives haven't moved under their own power (or at all) for a very long time.

It seems like the autoracks are causing the issues since the derailments at this spot almost always involve them.
Are the old engines that went through Lagrange getting scrapped or used for parts?
They're already dead and don't know it. CSX 4287 doesn't even have a prime mover.
My guess would be scrapped. With the emissions requirements, it is unlikely these units will be operational again.
Respect for all the years of service they have put in.

It would be my luck to have my car on one of the derailed carriers.
I don't know about all the companies. But some of them will scrap all the cars if they are involved in a derailment. No matter how minor it is. Even if they just have the wheels fall off the track and it stays vertical. That way they don't have to be concerned if someone later has a problem with one of those cars. Then they try and sue the railroad saying it was probably caused when the train derailed.

I've watch them repairing the tracks all day and they are still at it. There are cars from the last derailment in the background.

I had to re-watch it, but I just noticed that UP 2928 is a Tunnel Motor, an SD40T-2 to be specific. Now I wonder if it was a former SP or a Rio Grande unit as they were the only Class-1 railroads to acquire the Tunnel Motors. Cotton Belt units count as SP units as Cotton Belt was an SP subsidiary.
UP 2928 is former SP 8555.
We used to have SP tunnel motors run by my house. My Dad ordered the Athearn HO scale SD40T-2 version of an SP locomotive and surprised me with it, but he was disappointed that you couldn't see thru the grills like on the full size version; I bought some scale grilles for it and converted the body so that you could.

Most likely Lordstown, OH for scrap (All except for CSX 1234 since it’s still apart/ Active on the CSX Roster).
