About this van:
This boutique hotel style self-build campervan was built by John over 18 months. Shortly after, he met Emily who happened to love both campervans (and John) so she moved in with him shortly after!! Together they have been on all sorts of adventures, which they'll tell you more about in this video. The van itself is a great conversion, with some really unique features like it's a second bed, full bathroom and enormous garage storage that somehow doesn't encroach on the living space! It also features a heater, 2 showers and enough solar energy to run Emily's hair straighteners & dryer AND their slide up TV!

This layout is IDEAL, it really addresses everything! An efficient kitchen, skylights, large lounge area, a 2nd ‘guest’ bedroom, clever storage throughout, proper washroom/toilet, huge garage/wardrobe storage, and well planned mechanicals. And did I mention the aesthetic is just lovely... You guys nailed it. This is a 5-star conversion. 👍 Kudos & much luv from NYC!

True, but those cassette toilets are horrific.
All the 80's van campers used to have larger rear bathrooms with a tub, toilet and small sink/wardrobe..It would go across the whole rear...

This is probably the most unique layout I’ve ever seen. I love it. For me personally, I think this would be the design that would work best for my life if I were to finally take the plunge and live the van life. I love this. Well done.
I totally agree! I've seen 100's and 100's of these videos and this layout is extremely unique. Most of the time, the layouts that I see that are unique are really over the top. By this, I mean they are like a hobit house or a fairy cottage or something out of a cartoon or children's fantasy book. It's not just the layout that is unique, but the furnishings, details, and design choices are beyond unique, and always quite cluttered looking. I love seeing them, but they are typically something that is unique to that person's taste and not something that would be for the masses. People would either love it or hate it. This build is different because the layout is quite unique, but also quite "normal". It's not over the top or extremely eclectic. It's not cluttered. It is absolutely stunning and I can't imagine someone looking at it and not finding it appealing. Well done!

That is a solid van. The owners didn't skimp on anything! Even a porcelin sink! Everything looks top notch: the drawers, the bathroom, the TV, the decor! And why not? If you are going to live in a van, you might as well have the most comfortable van out there.

Love the trend in Europe where most of the cab area is blocked off but there is still an "escape hatch "
Great designed Port door to the bathroom.
Two beds, one shower, big garage, big kitchen, open space, cozy, access to the cabin, TV aaand... SOFA! Really, really, really good.
That door/window near the driver seat is genius. You get an extra wall because of that. Brilliant.
Great build! I love that the kitchen is not on the sliding door side. For some reason Americans build their kitchens on the door side and it looks like it cuts off 1/2 the door access. I wouldn’t be happy in a van because right now we’re in a 20’ travel trailer and I hate having to make up the bed and take it down every night. Being at a “certain age” I’m ready for a dedicated bed and separate dining table!! But it is a beautiful build and it’s wonderful you both can travel while you’re young enough to get around, have fun and enjoy the trip. Just don’t take your good health for granted!! Fair winds to you both!

From what I have seen, on the first attempt, most people don't get their van to work for them the way they thought it would. I don't recall you telling us if this was your first attempt, but if it was, WOW! Even more so if it was required to accommodate a second person after the design was finalised. Brilliant!... thank you!

Great build, when the windows are open it really makes you feel like your looking at a house, the spare bed looked awesome and I love how the bathroom has a toilet and shower. Because for those van builds with out showers and toilets, I don’t know how they live. Anyway it’s a great van build god job 😁

I am not usually a fan of this style of van... however I really appreciated this one. I do wish they had a permanent bed... but with the configuration that would not work. LOVE the tv lift and the garage. Hopefully one day they can get the recirculating water for the shower.. then this would be pretty amazing.
Brilliant design, I was wondering where is litter box for kitty? I have 2 kitties.
I bet it’s up front in the cab, although they don’t mention it.
Perhaps they’ve taught Joey to use the toilet (it’s opening up the door that’s tricky). LOL
One van build I saw they mentioned choosing not to have a litter box in the van and taught their cat to do their business outside instead.

Best layout (if I were to copy it) I’ve seen. Great for lone traveller with option to open up double bed for company. Who made it, looks crazy professional.

@@josephmiddleton3181 - As a single person, I would just use the single bed as well. Wouldn't need a pullout bed for company, they could just sleep on the couch cushion. Bathroom is tall enough but not wide enough for elbow room washing hair. But still love the overall design.

Great design. You even have a toilet and shower and sitting area and bed!! And a complete kitchen. Wish all those who live in van life will follow the design rather than not having a toilet and shower. One to the Best I have seen so far.

I am in shock that he was able to fit all that and make it still seem so spacious! its beautiful. i wish i could have something like that. he really should consider building these for a living or even seeling his designs/blueprints. I mean, god that thing is gorgeous. i would rather live in there than my house! I have definitely had 'favorites' before but this easily takes the top spot. I mean come on, a second bed? in a van!? that bathroom?! the GARAGE SPACE ALONE! MASSIVE! The little hatch space going into the front, even the picture on a hinge covering the control panels. This guy is brilliant.

I’ve been watching tiny house movement, schoolies and van conversions for the last five years. This is the most classy and well thought out van conversion I’ve seen. So wish I was younger and healthier. There would be no other way to live.
Great design, looks almost like a tiny house. Does not look like a van on the inside. Really like having windows on both sides so you can see what's going on behind you.

Very impressive van build. The layout is functional and I cannot believe you have so much space in your garage with a bunk bed above. The bathroom, wetsuit hanging area, outdoor shower, simply amazing layout and build. Lovely home, pretty inside, and lots of engineering features that make me say, 'Wow!'.

Unusual design, possibly unique! I think you will encourage a lot of imitators. The bathroom works well at the back and the idea of two beds is handy for times when you can't stand each other. Everything seems to have been executed with tremendous quality and I like your updates - like the warm shower - based on your experiences. But the thing you have to ask yourself, John, is does Emily love you for yourself, or for your VAN!

Fantastic van build one if the best uses if space I've seen and retaining sense of space while having everything! The second single bed is genius idea aswell for a daytime chill out or if one of you isn't feeling great, not having to make the main bed up to be able to relax/have a lay down is great..
Looks great aswell and love the TV and fact the toilet emptying access is inside the garage compartment as opposed to on the outside of the van just another thing to keep the outside more Van-like/less hassle aswell cutting into the main bodywork..
All in all love this van conversion! Think I'll be taking some ideas from this one when I build mine for sure!
