- In this video we review the ATC SCM45A studio monitors, Mark falls in love and gets very wet, and finds an unusual use for soft fruit. Many thanks to Hazel and Ben Lily at ATC for loaning us their demo pair of these wonderful monitors. www.atcloudspeakers.co.uk

This is brilliant - hell, if it doesn't get at least 1,000,000 views, it would be a crime!
The effort you guys put in to these videos is wonderful - and it's clear, you are having an absolute blast doing them.
It's like a mini british comedy, with some geeky audio reviews thrown in to boot, or ... maybe the other way around ... I don't know.
It's good. Very good. And it's criminal that this wonderful odd couple are not getting the eyeballs they need and a deal with ITV1.
Awww thanks, Matthew! Yeah we have a blast doing them. Which is just as well really! Please share it on all those things you can share stuff on!
Would be nice to see a review of the ATC SCM25’s, as it’s probably the most interesting model for smaller project studios. A side by side with Quested V3110 and others in that range would be cherry on the cake.
This video is crazy! The lengths you guys go through to make your videos unique and entertaining; I love it! You guys have, undoubtedly, the most unique audio production channel on CZcams, hands down!
One question about these monitors though; how's the stereo separation and sweet spot? They're exceptionally well reviewed, and I've heard that the stereo separation is great, but I don't see a wave guide. Any clarity on that? Does it sound very wide, like some JBLs?
Thanks for the kind words! And yeah, we went to crazy lengths with this one… the sea in England in October is COLD!
The stereo imaging is excellent with these. You can hear the smallest of pan moves extremely well, and the sweet spot is super wide. If they were mounted on stands behind a large format console you’d have no trouble hearing everything from channel one to channel xx.
There are waveguides, but they are built into the drivers. There’s a teeny one on the tweeter, and the mid dome is horn loaded.
When mastering, when someone has overcooked the stereo width enhancement in the mix it’s blindingly obvious on these!
@@PresentDayProduction Oohhhh, thanks for the quick response. Sounds lovely!
There are unquestionably waveguides on both the HF and MF drivers. Not sure what you think a waveguide is.
Great speaker but sucks at low volumes. Impractical for most modern city apartments.
This must be the most expensive video you chaps have put together. Well done!
And that’s assuming they ditched the Labiair 747 in a single take.
This has became my favorite Pro Audio Channel! Great reviews of Top Studio Gear with a funny approach! Keep it up guys!!
Lovin your vids … a teaspoon of the english humor, a spoon of tech info, a flavor of real practicality… you guys nail it !!!
Thank you!
Even if I didn't record audio I would still love this video for the humor! Thanks for the smiles and the review!
I have been looking for years now for one quality video that reduces my entire studio to garbage...
you are not over the budget. I am under the budget! I will get ATCs some day!
Check out our own MUM monitors on our website! Same design philosophy, even more detail in the mid range, the best bass drivers money can buy, and half the price!
I owned a pair of their hifi speakers and I truly loved them. Studio monitors are of course their stronger suit. I can't believe how they are underrated in the US.
This is by far the best audio video I have ever watched. I love you guys so damn much.
Thank you so much 😜
Man, would love to hear ATC's one day! Really want to realise what you guys did! Can't imagine their sound from words. Nice review buds, thanks!
Yes another 10k speaker review! You guys do them so well, I could watch them all day.
That’s good, cos there’s a £25K speaker review coming soon! 😛
Brilliant! Yup! Once you hear a mix on ATC’s it's difficult to go back to other speakers.
OMG - I saw some of your early videos but this is really really good - you totally get musician humour!!!
These are my dream. I have the chance to work on these speakers every week at school. Guess I'm very lucky. Yess, I definitely can't unhear it. Oh, and for the people who think atc has a weird looking logo, just look at it a little differently. You won't be able to unsee it 😉
Joe Chiccarelli talked about them in a Mix With The Masters video. He said they had the best mid-range speaker in the business and he can literally tell when the microphone wasn't in the exact place in front of an amplifier.
And he’s right!
I've heard these in person and my immediate impression was the accuracy of the mids. I was listening to metal tracks and the guitars sounded like I was listening to the amp in person and not like a recording of a guitar amp, if that makes sense. Since then that is how I reference all speakers now.
Exactly that! And then you start to hear a lot of material that was mixed on a lesser monitor, and it’s over compressed and lifeless! That mid is so important.
@@PresentDayProduction some live PA speakers have similar qualities, like Meyer/L Acoustic etc. Not the extreme of ATC but would be interesting to see if you could do a vid doing a mix on those in a studio setting since live guys are doing it anyways in venues. Basically, answering the question...Can you mix with a high end point source speaker designed for Live use in a studio setting?
Just the best audio review ever! Keep it up guys you rox!!!😊😊
This videos has been lately upraising with comedy, I love it!
Love the effort you guys put into these videos. A mix of funny entertainment & serious review! Great stuff.
Oh NO! Intense FOMO! 15% of the cost? FOMO attack! Alright, I'm clicking the bell... you wore me down. Fantastic video BTW -- had me laughing out loud.
Thank you for the video, amazing production and the best laughs I’ve had in a long time. Thank you!!!!
Q: Was it pure selfless altruism which made you marry ‘both’ speakers..?
A: Yes... it was big o’me..!
I can see why you said the speakers were critically-dampened... I imagine Hazel & Ben were rather scathing about bathing with them in the ocean (not really... while the boxed speaker was clearly-genuine, I imagine the water was all CGI).
So, despite appearing to be bass-light, they do work for ‘dance’ music... albeit just the ‘Conga’ track (?)
All good & interesting stuff... but I’m awaiting the cheapy-monitor vid as soon as you like, chaps.
Now we can start travelling and visiting others again I'm definitely looking forward to flying 'Labiair'.
Apparently all their planes have been grounded - they’re having trouble with their ‘flaps’ 🤭
I love my 45s. Best purchase yet.
Nice video guys! At first I thought what, they've changed Flop cat for a horse! Thank goodness the aforementioned Flop cat made a stellar appearance. Oh and by the way the speakers looked awesome. 🐱🐱🐱
He eats like a horse! 🤣
the quality of your videos is outstanding
Thank you very much!
You guys are hilarious 😂😂😂😂 I’m so glad I love recording music, the entertainment 😂 awesome vid guys! 🔥
ATC's the best speakers i've never heard thanks to your video. seriously you guys make me laugh so much, love the content. Ps please ring up FX Rentals and tell them to buy a pair that way i can hire them for a day lol
These videos are game changing 🔥🔥🔥
this is the best review I ever saw in my life
Thank you so much! :)
I love your videos Mark and James! I'd be afraid to hear the ATCs, I'd likely dream about having them . I'm quite happy with my HEDD type 20 :)
Luv our SCM100ASL's .... As pleasing as the day is long. .. Cheers, Vail, Colorado
genelec 8050’s or barefoot 03? looking for most accurate since I have many translation system to check on
That was brilliant! Good luck with the legal paperwork.
You guys are real silly gooses. Bout to sell my care and pick up a pair, I need to lose a few pounds anyway :)
As a owner of SCM50ASLT and SCM40A can only agree with everything they say. I would love to hear what the SCM45A sound like as I can imagine the bass slam to be pretty good.
It’s not far off the sound of the 40 to be honest, but having the bass load shared between two drivers does give it some extra depth and detail. How do you find the 40 compared to the 50?
Ivor, what differences could you observe sonically between those two...?
If you look at measurements you can see they are a bit bass light and a bit mid forward. Good for mixing results but less for listening.
Precisely. While the review is hilarious, all the glowing praise misses this basic point.
Interested to see what your "15% of the cost" option is next video. I have PSI A21m here which are just over half the price of these ATC's and apart from a sub I couldnt see wanting more, having come from Dynaudios, Focals, Opals. There's just no way the ATCs would fit here anyway price aside.
Also awaiting the 15% video!
I'm late, LOL..... here's that video czcams.com/video/o-yb1ElFHzs/video.html
ATC rocks. I fuggin love you guys. Carry on....
Absolutely brilliant and hilarious video!
loved the CH reference with the sea 😆
I actually got in it though!
Lovely production and great info!👍🏽
Awaiting your two cents on the smaller ATC’s ..the SCM 20 ASL’s !!!
Just gotta get our hands on some! We only own the bigger ones in our studio, so we'd rely on ATC lending us some - which I'm sure they'd be happy to do
@@PresentDayProduction any news on this one, guys? ^^ ;-)
Not just yet! It’s on our to-do list, but there are quite a few other videos we have planned to release first! :)
Silliness abounds! Love it :-) I so want me some ATCs. One day maybe...
Level of entertainment value of most great CZcams channels: 6-8.
Level of you channel: 12.
Nuf said. Right, where’s my 🦀 salad?
Do you want peaches with that?! 🤣🍑
@@PresentDayProduction This makes me feel ImPeached… But what the health, sprinkle some on!
Ah lads, the best one yet. The ocean touchdown was genius.
Still haven't recharged your cat I see. 🙀
He’s settling in for the winter now. Hours upon hours of sleepy time, interspersed with the occasional mass rodent slaughter 😼
@@PresentDayProduction He's a good ratter then? In that case I may have a job for him. Tell him to apply to the Houses of Parliament, Westminster, and slaughter anything that moves. ☠
Thanks for the review, you got it right, it's too far away for me now, but is was really happe to see this video's because the jokes that you made. Best for you!
Thank you for watching! And one day… 😉
Just ordered these. Now I just have to not go crazy waiting for them to arrive in 3-4 months.
3-4 months?! Ouch! Well, it will be worth the wait!
Ok, the video was entertaining af. Since I'm just a musician, self producer and some rare client based worker bee, it would be quite an exxageration to buy these. Although, there are many people with only one kidney.
I'm in the middle of doing some acoustic treatment and maybe the urge for better monitoring comes, when it is done. Not with these beauties, I'm afraid.
Great video ! I had the chance to hear the ATC SCM 150 ASL first, then the 45A. The sound of ATC's speakers is absolutely amazing and consistent across their product range. I'm still hesitating to buy the 45A but I find they lack of low end. Upper models are (maybe) too big for my room, also more expensive... the idea of getting a sub and get it to work properly makes me a bit nervous. What would be your advice ? Thank you
There is indeed more bass-end on the larger speakers such as the 100 or the 150, you’re right. The 45 in my opinion (James) was lovely but lacked the extreme detail of the SL mid driver found in the more expensive models, and also the bass response just isn’t as much because the drivers and cabinet are smaller. I would recommend a sub if you’re going for 45’s. However, when you buy a subwoofer, it needs to be the same quality as your main speakers, otherwise you’re essentially downgrading a major part of your sound
Absolutely brilliant, Shine on 👍
Excellent production 👌 love the mewsic
Awesome video! Im not gonna say 'i want a pair', cuz i've been telling that to myself since the day i've heard the scm50asl.
I think the 50s are worth the extra dollar. The SL bass drivers and S-spec mid are just that little bit better than the ‘standard’ versions in the 25 and 45
Have you every heard any of the TPI speakers ? The amplifiers and crossover in ATC's are Tim's work and now he's improved his work and is involved with TPI. They claim that there favourite demo is to put there speakers up against the ATC ones to show the ATC faults. I haven't experienced this myself but would be great to see on your channel :) ps i don't work for them but love audio.
We haven’t heard them but I can try and look into it!
Awesome vid fellas! big ups
Great video !!! I would like to see something for the entry level ATC, like the19's.
You guys are mad😂 love it.
Thank you 🤪
I’m crying laughing. Excellent work!
Thank you!
great Video Guys!!! I would love too see more Videos on expensive high End Monitors like Genelec, Barefoot, the new PMC's etc. because a great Studio Monitor is an Engineer's best Friend right? ;)
Exactly!
I'd buy three now if I could find them online with a company I trust..
I was vacillating between these and the Genelec 8351B for quite a while. Went with the Genelec for several reasons, not the least of which was cost: $8K vs $13K US. That, and I've been using Genelec for a long time. I've never listened to ATC, but I'm quite confident that the Genelec are comparably accurate to the ATC. My system is coupled with a Genelec sub and the GLM system.
I'm a happy camper with $5K burning a hole in my pocket. That said...I'll always wonder. 🤔
ATC frankly doesn't have anything to compete with the coaxial genelec speakers.
@@joshcatstream Having owned genelecs and now atc 150's the genelecs just can't compete in any capacity. That' sterling sound use them, blackbird studios, all of northward acoustics projects etc. etc... say it all. Sorry josh you haven't heard them or you would know otherwise.
Fantastic review, not much can be added.
I couldn't quite afford the 45A:s but found a used pair of SCM40A:s and feel like I got a bit of a bargain as I don't mind the Hifi look.
So you’ve basically got SCM25s in a better box! The 40s are awesome 👍
@@PresentDayProduction Cheers, I find it hard to turn them off and go to bed each night. Just one more album and a fresh cup of tea.
I know this is an older vid now, but at the end you said 'getting a similar sound for 15% of the cost...video coming soon' (or words to that affect). What video was that please, one of the PSI review?
Great videos, having recently stumbled across your channel as going to be doing a budget-ish room studio build, I am working my way through your awesome back catalogue!!! THANK YOU
what do you think of kali audio in5/8 you did not review them in your channel I never seen a bad review about them for the Preformance per dollar that you get with them
We’ve asked Kali for a loan pair to review but they can’t get us any until next year
@@PresentDayProduction wow the demand must be crazy!!!!
Sure looks that way!
Well I'm ordering the scm20asl soon. Maybe these will be the next upgrade.
I should like to listen to those marvelous devices. If only I could. Please keep in mind low budget needs too. As with past review of the Adam...
We are, and we have some budget interface reviews on the way and are trying SO HARD to get some budget monitors in, but it’s an uphill struggle!
I was blessed to be able to buy a pair of these last year. I have an Adam Sub10 with them that fills in just a little underneath where these can reach. They are everything you describe and are the last monitors I will probably ever buy. I have never heard such clarity from any speakers in my life. The funny thing is the price of them went up by $1,500 two weeks after I ordered them, (took a couple months to show up), so I am glad I got them when I did. They are the most expensive thing I have ever purchased……and I have absolutely no regrets 😁
Thanks for the great video!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! Enjoy them, I’m sure you will!
@@PresentDayProduction by the way, I Love your guys’ humor and creativity in these videos. I have made enough videos to know all those little things take a lot of time and effort. Great Job!
Seeing all these computer audio guys dripping their balls in waters seems to be a major trend nowaday...
#WettingYourNutsChallenge?
BTW, excellent video!
Just fantastic
Rest in peace Billy Woodman.
At this rate you’ll be on Netflix by next year!
Random thought that popped into my brain: what would be the minimum room size for this kind of speaker to be worth it, assuming proper treatment?
My room is roughly 5x7mtrs and they’re a good fit in there, but they also sound great in one of our smaller rooms - 4x3m. Any smaller and SCM25 would be a better fit I think
@@PresentDayProduction wow, that’s smaller than I expected. Dreams of having such a room one day restored, thanks!
Thank you
Best review ever...
The best speakers I've ever had (and still do) are the Boston 400 series. They sound too good for studio work so I use a combination of studio speakers including JBL 4310's and Genelec as well as some real world example including a vintage set of Auratone's I've owned since the 1970's. By the way the Boston's without the screen look a lot like the speaker arrangement of the SCM45A"s ?
JBL 4310 ?
Man, that's way back before speakers were invented !
Back when we DINOSAURS ruled the earth...
I had 4311s, used pink noise and a 33 band eq to set the room...
did I mention I used an SM58 on everything ! vocals, acoustics, mic the elec and DI'd the bass, and that Alesis Q2 had a bitchen Rotary patch, patch is Hippiespeak for plug-in...was I happy when I got that Tascam 1 inch 16 track dbx w remote...remote = Hippie Bluetooth, 20x8 board, but stylin' when I got crazy w AT4033, then crazytown for a 4050 in omni plus a racked mic pre, seemed like each thing was 300.00.
oh yeah, 500 ft reel of Canare star quad and a 16 inxout junction I soldered. after I dodged credit collectors and hid my car, I ran screaming into the wild w my JBL 28LSR pwrd mons w 8 + tweets on 10 ft triangle listening BR p.s. last time a BGW500saurus was ever seen
(thud!).
I was a Sennheiser fan so used my 4 x MD421's and 2 x MD441's for almost everything for a a number of years but now I have over 140 different mics (some cheap some expensive) that I use depending the sonic texture and level requirements of the instruments being recorded.@@steveataylor8805
This was great!
Thanks for watching!
That was ACE!
What stands would you recommend to go with them?? Thanks. I thinking of getting the PMC twotwo plate and tube 104 stands.
Having a little bit of trouble integrating the SCM45s perfectly into my space. Previously had 20s in another room and they were sublime. Any tips? :)
Lmaooooo😂 I actually had to comment . So witty!!!
Love these vids 👍
I wonder how these really would stack up against the PMC 6-2’s
Having heard both, they’re both of extremely high quality, but haven’t heard both side-by-side so it would be hard to comment. We have ATC in every room though, so there’s something to be said for that. Maybe one day we can get hold of some PMC6-2 for review!
Thinking about what’s best between the two lol 😅
Love all your videos!! What are you thoughts on the Head Audio? maybe a video on them?
HEDD you mean?
£10000 for a pair of speakers....... yes please, a look at something I can't afford PRAISE BE TO CZcams and many thanks for your channel.
Hello everybody I'm Jaap nice to meet you ! I have the chance to buy vs3208quested (2500 euros) or scm45a (9500 euros). What do you recommend me ? Thanks a lot
The ATC’s are great, but our upcoming speaker might be of interest to you… keep an eye on the channel!
@@PresentDayProduction Awesome !! Do you have an idea of when you are going to publish the video ? Have a nice day;)
Soon! Almost done.
I have a good sounding room, with a pair of barefoot footprint 01s. They are good monitors, but i’m looking for better more accurate monitors! Where i’m located (Haiti) i can’t demo monitors but i’m really interested in those ATC but also D&D8C. Would be nice to have a review video about the dutch&dutch!
My guess on the 15% thing: headphones
Edit: ok it's not.
But i still wanted to ask what you guys think of the Audeze LCDXs especially regarding the PSIs as the Audeze Membrane is said to have quite the same quick reaction and by that - low distortion.
It's being compared to 15k-20k speakers.
hello! what are your thoughts on Amphion? worth the investment?
How did I not notice the peaches the first time?
God, this really makes me want to pull the lever towards the ATC:s. Unfortunately I live in an apartment with not-so-ideal ways for treating my room that's both for living and sleeping in as well as mixing. I'm currently doing well with my Amphion One18's, but one day I'm sure it's time for an upgrade. I'm never going to let go of the Amphions, though, and speaking of them, why not get a pair of One18's or Two18's in? I'm sure the Amphion guys here in Finland would love to send you a pair over for a video!
We did have a day on Amphions when we went to the SSL factory a couple of years ago. They had them in their control room there. I wasn’t a fan to be honest, they seemed to lack a lot of the dynamics you get with ATC. Compression on particular was harder to judge. But still very good speakers! We’ll get in touch and see if they can arrange a pair for review.
@@PresentDayProduction Great, looking forward to that! They're definitely not for everyone, but especially the One18's at 3000€ a pair are wonderful for my taste at least. For my situation having to be very near-field, I feel stuff slots in very nicely. When I eventually get into a better situation with a proper room, I'll be considering the ATC's for sure.
You should do a comparison with dutch and dutch 8, kii threes to see what modern monitors are capable of.
this was hilarious. subscribed!
Thank you!
I`m missing a review/comparison about the Genelec 1032cpm!
Trying to get hold of a pair…
@@PresentDayProduction they are classic 🎶 (90s❤️)
floppy cat on studio overnight security.
All is secure.
Haha great vid guys :)
What AD/DA do yo use with this beauty?
We’ve tried loads, as well as plenty of ‘consumer’ interfaces, but still go back to the original Focusrite Claret. They put the wrong converters in those things, I swear… it nulls with a decent cable!
Thanks for the review guys! Question am looking for some amazing speakers to pair with a Master Sounds rotary DJ mixer (Radius 4). Purpose of the speakers is to coax the highest quality sound out of mostly vinyl home DJ mixing. Are these speakers going to be too flat? Cheers.
They aren't too flat, they've very accurate and you wouldn't be disappointed!
We are also working on our own brand of speaker to fill in a few gaps that we feel other models have - check out our Discord for sneak-peek info.
Thanks for the follow up! Will find the discord group
Masterpiece :D
Cool Story telling 😂😂😂 👌🏻
