G305 is my all time favourite mouse but what keeps me from using it since years back is the god aweful scroll wheel that barely lasts half a year, I wish they would just rerelease an updated version of the g305

yo if you like the g305 i recommend you get an mchose g3 as a replacement, its lighter with a better sensor and better switches but the shape itself is basically a clone of the g305, also gonna mention the zaopin z1 pro as its even better but the shape is slightly different, still an egg shape like the g305 but with different sides and a slightly smaller shape (which i adore personally)
but yeah the g309 sucks and doesnt really have a target audience

There is an improvment, optical switches promise way longer lifespan than 305. And AA battery power is big plus as I hate charging stuff and replace mouse after 2years as battery degraded.

I agree, for me it was just not seeing a weight change, even though I usually like heavier mice anyways ha

Probably will be a much better choice after it starts to drop in price. Also, 5 grams is actually very light and it's not that strange for the back panel to be that weight. Note that the AA to AAA adapter is about 4 grams. You can get away with just using half the adapter to save some weight. Or, if you don't mind being a little ghetto, use a ball of foil for about 0.2 grams. 😆

It's a great mouse, especially if you don't plan on charging frequently and changing it due to the degraded battery.
It's an improvement in every way
