Your videos are some of the most helpful on CZcams. When I launched my blog in 2018, I knew absolutely nothing about websites. I STRUGGLED through the tech part. Now, I LOVE the tech part and build sites for others. This video came just in time. I’m considering revamping my “beginner blog.” Thank you!

    Great Video Adam!
Doing a migration with Updraft is so much easier, IMHO. No downloading the files. Put Updraft in the sending site and in the Receiving site and your sending site files are all pushed to your receiving site. And Updraft handles the rest. Love it. We move hundreds of sites a year.

Howdy! Most of the time, I use Manage WP for cloning sites, but sometimes I run into issues. While I am using Updraft to manual clones, it also has problems! Learning about WPVivid alone makes this video extremely helpful. While I am a professional WordPress designer and consultant, I find tons of great info in your videos regardless if their intention is for beginners. BTW, I have a VPS, and I create staging sites the same way you do it. BTW, Manage WP now has a link checker service where you can create redirects right in the dashboard. Also, RankMath gives you redirect control for free - unlike Yoast.

One key thing is to PROTECT the subdomain folder at the server level to avoid SEO issues! Thanks anyway for the video. A good start for a beginner :) PS: I know that the Reading settings might work most of the time but I did have some feedbacks about the fact it's not 100 % bulletproof.

Love the channel - I think you should have told them about All In One Migration - super simple migrations for free & to re-direct using hctaccess instead of a plugin. It's super easy too and doesn't require a plugin...I understand you should probably have Yoast or RankMath but personally prefer Yoast after using both on so many sites.

Great video Adam. I’m about to replace my old site later today. Question, as my new site is on a sub domain all of the permalink’s start with my sub domain. Should I set up all of the redirects from my old site before migrating using the sub-domain URL? Will this automatically change domain when I replace the website?

Right on, Adam! Just what I needed right now.
Question about piecing two of suggestions together: If I switch to one of the hosts you recommend, I cannot use a staging subdomin there, because the main domain still has to point to the old host during the staged oberhaul.
What to do? Rebuild the site with a dummy domain at the new host? (Local is not an option because the team and client need to chime in.) How to safely throw the switch when ready?

What do you do, if you have a WordPress page, which you only want to show visitors once a year? It could be a Halloween page, a Christmas page etc.
Do you create a permanent 301 and redirect to the homepage and then remove the redirect when it is Christmas or Halloween or do you use a different redirect for that, or what will be the best way?

Question about redirects. Do you have to do a redirect for each url on your website, i.e., Home page, About, Contact, etc. or is there a way to do a global redirect for the entire site? How about blog post urls? If you have a lot of blog posts do you have to do a redirect for every one of them? Thanks

Thanks for that very helpful video. One question? I see you were migrating from a wordpress site to another wordpress site. When you installed Wordpress after setting up the subdomain, this would be the latest Wordpress version available I take it. So if your live site is on a very old version, would the new version interfere with that? Ideally they would go exist and the live site could continue until you are ready to relauch with the new site. The old wordpress version may have plugins that are no longer supported on the new version

Great video as ever Adam and timely too as a couple of other people have said the same. I'm just looking to do a rebuild/theme transplant on a site which I built a few years back. Unfortunately however it's one of those themes you don't like from Envato market (Enfold). Good theme, back then and a good all in one solution, but I'm into Elementor now and want to rebuild.
Problem I face is that the site is huge, and content gets added pretty much every day. Cant really think of a way in which to change the theme on a staging area as by the time I'd staged it, changed theme and fixed all of the formatting issues that that would bring there would have been various other posts up on the site, so tracking it all would be a nightmare - realistically its going to take months as its about 80 pages and then 4-5 years of daily posts.
So a rebuild looks inevitable if I want to change theme, however what I think I'd be inclined to do is to only include posts from this year on the rebuild. Not sure how that will effect its ranking on search engines though - currently we don't massivly optimise the posts anyway as there's a lot of embedding of documents and pdfs so the onpage content wouldn't really rank high for the keywords and it's an educational site so it's not something whereby we're looking to attract customers from outside of the staff, students and parents.
Would you say rebuild and only doing the last year of posts would be the way forward?
Great content as ever - thanks!

You can use this video for that. There are 2 parts to the video.

Does the 301 Redirect save your google ranking, or will the rank still be lost?

Thanks but still confused for my situation. I have a full website with many pages on Wordpress and duplicated the home page to redesign it there. Now I need to kill the one original home page and make the new one go live. How should I go about this?

Thank you so much Adam. Will I still need to redirect if I did not make any changes to my links? You redirected from contact-me to www.../contact, would you have redirected if the link was not changed but remained "contact me" ?

What can I do if I want to delete the entire site but reuse the domain name? Can I simply remove it from the server and start a new domain reusing the old domain name that is no longer on the server?
